Chapter 7

Autor: Washing Wheat
"Stop screaming. You'll love it soon enough. Better than sleeping with a man, honestly. I guarantee you'll be begging for more after this."

Looking at her twisted expression, all I could think about was every time Dave had taken her side.

The disgust in his eyes.

The way he looked at me like I was the problem.

Tears spilled down my face, but weirdly enough, they made me stop caring.

I was leaving anyway.

Why the hell should I keep letting her bully me?

Right as they grabbed my pants to rip them off, I shoved one of the bodyguards back and lunged at Maggie.

Then I sank my teeth into her hand as hard as I could.

Maggie let out this high-pitched shriek and clawed at my face, trying to pry me off her hand.

I didn't let go.

Blood filled my mouth, metallic and thick, right before half her finger tore free between my teeth.

"What the hell is going on?!"

Dave's furious shout exploded across the course.

The second he ran over, he froze.

My face was covered in blood, and my pants had been half ripped off.

And just like that, he finally figured out Maggie had been hurting me.

His face changed instantly. He kicked the bodyguard off me, yanked my pants back up, then grabbed me like he was suddenly scared.

"Bianca, what happened? Don't be scared. I'll—I'll take you to the hospital."

But Maggie suddenly screamed again, holding up the severed half of her finger.

"Dave, she bit off my finger! My finger's gone! It hurts so bad! Save me!"

Dave froze.

Then he looked at me, shock and hesitation flashing across his face.

Only for a second.

He only said one thing.

"Fingers only have a short survival window. I need to get her to the hospital first. Call an ambulance yourself. I'll come back for you after."

Then he picked Maggie up.

My heart dropped into a bottomless pit.

So it wasn't that he didn't know how cruel Maggie was.

He just always chose her.

I looked up at him.

"Dave Tarrett, this is the last time."

Something in his face shifted. Like he was losing something for good.

But when Maggie trembled in his arms, he still chose her without hesitation.

Before leaving, he looked at me seriously.

"I know you suffered because of this. I promise I'll give you an explanation. Just... don't call the police. Please."

I watched him disappear into the distance.

I didn't go to the hospital right away.

Dragging my injured leg behind me, I made my way back to the mansion.

Sure enough, the second I got home, one of the staff handed me the property deed Dave had already prepared.

The deed to this mansion.

I locked it in the safe.

Then I placed my diary, the divorce papers, and the contract termination agreement together on the table.

Finally, I grabbed a note and left him one last sentence.

[I've paid back everything I owed you. We're done. Dave Tarrett, let's get divorced.]

With my only bag in hand, I boarded a flight out of Hawthorne Bay, headed for Southvale.

Dave, this is where we end.

Third-Person POV

After the plane lifted into the sky, Dave dragged himself home, dead tired.

The house was quiet. Empty.

Frowning, he called Bianca.

Then he spotted a note on the bedroom desk. Just as he reached for it, a cold robotic voice came through the phone.

"Sorry, the number you dialed is unavailable..."

His eyes dropped to the bold words on the note.

His pupils shrank instantly.

William froze, realization crashing over him. His eyes reddened as he grabbed my hand tight.I hadn't actually planned to jump that day. I just climbed up on impulse because I wanted a higher view.Instead, I ran into William, who really had come there to die.The look in his eyes that day—that was real despair. Real emptiness. So I went home with him. Saving someone's life mattered more than anything else.I didn't know what he'd been through. But since he'd chosen to confess to me, I became someone important to him. He probably wouldn't want to die anymore.***Life at the bookstore was simple: shelving books, making drinks, and taking care of my sad little bookstore boy. Then one day, a man showed up in front of me. He looked exhausted. Disheveled. Completely worn down.He begged me to forgive him. Said he knew he'd been wrong. Said he'd avenged me and sent Maggie to prison. He said I was his wife. That he'd make it up to me. That he'd spend the rest of his life making ame

Dave kept going. "You're right. I'm trash. I'll find her and beg for forgiveness. But I will avenge her."Maggie trembled under his ice-cold stare. Then he threw her to the floor and told the bodyguard beside him, "Get the thugs. Tell them to get creative. Just don't let her die."That was when Maggie realized she'd pushed too far. Her eyes went wide. She was so scared she pissed herself. She screamed, "Dave, I was wrong! I'll apologize to her. I'll leave. I'll move overseas, disappear, whatever you want. I won't get in your way anymore. But you can't do this to me. You can't, Dave!"Dave handed her over to a bunch of thugs. He ignored her screams and begging, filming every second of her humiliation. Then he dumped the photos and videos online and let the internet tear her apart.Overnight, Maggie became public enemy number one. Everybody hated her.Even then, Dave still wasn't done.As Bianca's husband, he pressed charges against Maggie for intentional assault. The evidence w

The diary recorded every single thing in detail.Even the exact words he'd said to Maggie. It felt like he was standing in Bianca's place, reliving all of it himself.Every word felt suffocating, despair bleeding through every line.Dave sat by the bed reading all night, the cigarette ember glowing on and off in the dark.He finished an entire pack. The smoke filling the room felt thick enough to suffocate him.By morning, his eyes were bloodshot. He looked hollowed out, drowned in grief and crushing regret.Only now did he finally understand how Bianca had felt. But it was too late.He couldn't find her.'I'm a monster.'Bianca was the victim. Maggie had been cruel, yet he still chose Maggie's side. He'd even tried to silence Bianca—stopped her from going to the police and forced her to suffer quietly.'Why? Why did I treat Bianca like that?'Just because she stayed silent?Because she didn't cry?Guilt tore through him.He was sick.A monster. And he was going to

The staff then added, "Oh, and she said the safe was full."Dave's head started pounding. He rushed into the study and yanked the safe open. He'd never understood why Bianca wanted a safe almost as tall as a person.Back when the staff installed it, he'd asked her about it.Bianca had just smiled mysteriously. "Secret. You'll know when it's full."At the time, he hadn't cared. He thought it was some pointless little game. But now, staring at the safe stuffed with property deeds numbered from 1 to 290, his mind went blank.'Her secret was that she was planning to disappear?'All she left him was a divorce agreement and a termination contract before vanishing from his world completely.'Then what does 290 mean?'Dave remembered seeing the number 289 in her diary before. What were those numbers supposed to mean?A crushing wave of helplessness slammed into him, and the urge to smoke came back instantly.'The diary. Right... the diary.'Remembering the diary Bianca left behin

A tear dropped onto Dave's phone. His voice turned hoarse. "Her leg... was it really that bad?"Claudia instantly snapped, furious. "It was sick. Those people clearly wanted to ruin her. They didn't touch anything else—they only targeted her right leg. That's evil."It could've been treated at first, but for some reason, she was delayed before getting to the hospital. By the time she got there, the doctor said her right leg would never fully recover."'Only her right leg? They deliberately tried to destroy her career?'Dave's chest tightened. The second he thought about Maggie being behind it, guilt nearly crushed him.But right now, he only wanted one thing—Find Bianca.Immediately."Bianca, answer the phone. Pick up!" he shouted into the silence. "I never agreed to this. Who gave you the right to divorce me?"Only the endless ringing answered him.A staff member came upstairs to check on him. Seeing his expression, her eyes instantly reddened."Sir, Mrs. Tarrett loves yo

[I've paid back everything I owed you. We're done. Dave Tarrett, let's get divorced.]Dave's mind went completely blank. The word "divorce" didn't even feel real.He grabbed the papers and flipped to the last page. Bianca's signature was already there. That's when it hit him.She really wanted out.Staring at the termination agreement, he slammed his phone against the floor. Then he called Claudia."You hid this from me and let her terminate her contract? You trying to die?"Claudia's voice shook. "Mr. Tarrett, you said Ms. Gorringe was critically injured. You told us not to disturb you unless the sky was falling."Dave froze. He remembered getting a call when even the specialists couldn't treat Maggie. He'd been losing it at the time, cussing the caller out before hanging up.Who knew it was about Bianca ending her contract?"You didn't even get my signature. Who gave you the right to let her go?"He needed someone to dump his anger on.Claudia let out a tired sigh. "Di
