Chapter 4

I hung up, grabbed my coat, and headed straight to the office.

Braxton saw this and ran after me.

Once I got to the office, I found out what was going on.

The client from the ten-million-dollar deal I had closed earlier had come in to talk about follow-up work.

After Vivienne got back from vacation, she wanted to impress everyone at the company, so she secretly used Braxton’s computer to answer the client’s email. She ended up getting the core pricing wrong.

The client was furious. They demanded we fix it right away.

When I heard the news, a surge of anger hit me, and my temples throbbed.

Thanks to my familiarity with the project, I immediately started assigning tasks.

I hopped on a video call with the client and communicated with him.

Only after I got them to calm down and resolved the first crisis did I finally get a second to breathe.

I walked over to the office bullpen and looked at Vivienne, who was sitting at her desk.

I questioned her coldly, “Who told you to go behind my back and touch my client’s emails?”

She shot to her feet, eyes welling up, and wore a wounded expression.

“I’m sorry, Adeline. I just saw how exhausted Brax was after getting back from vacation and wanted to take some work off his plate. I really didn’t mean to cause trouble...”

I could not stand it. She was a woman in her twenties who only knew how to cry and play the victim when something went wrong.

So this was the level Braxton had stooped to.

When Braxton heard about this, he swiftly jumped to her defense.

“Adeline, don’t blame Vivienne. I’m the one who let her use my computer.

“She was just trying to help and accidentally messed up the data. Do you really have to yell at her in front of everyone?”

Hearing that, I laughed out of sheer anger.

I went off on him. “Braxton, do you have zero respect for my clients, or do you simply not care about this company’s reputation at all?”

Braxton froze.

At the office, I usually let him call all the shots.

No matter how ridiculous his decisions were, I would quietly clean up his mess behind the scenes and make sure he still looked good as the president in front of everyone.

He never expected me to call him out like that in front of so many employees.

“Adeline, watch it. I’m the chairman here!” he hissed under his breath.

“Oh, so now you care about your reputation?” I retorted.

My voice rang out across the silent office.

“The whole office is watching. Are you really going to play favorites with her this blatantly?”

Braxton was left speechless. His face went pale, then flushed red.

I did not stop there. I stared into his eyes and kept going.

“You took the multi-million-dollar deal I worked so hard for and handed it to her to play with and run into the ground.

“You turned the honeymoon we waited three months for into her little island getaway to mend her broken heart.

“Then, you tore down my private golf room and turned it into your little secret clubhouse for two.

“So what’s the plan here? Are you grooming her to be the next chairman or your next wife?”

The moment I snapped, all the employees present lowered their gaze. No one dared to make a sound.

Braxton’s eyes went wide. “Adeline, watch your mouth!”

I looked at him losing his composure.

Seven years of love had come to this. I could not even be bothered to feel angry anymore.

I had been let down too many times to feel anything anymore. All that was left was cold clarity.

I straightened my cuff as I said calmly, “That’s it. We’re done. I’m divorcing you. I sent you the papers two weeks ago.

“Since you can’t be bothered to read your messages, I’m telling you to your face.”

Braxton stood frozen. He was in disbelief.

I glanced at Vivienne before calmly adding one last thing.

“Oh, and one more thing. Someone’s coming in tomorrow to take over the company. You two should both start packing your things.”
