Marco’s Point of View

The basement apartment smelled faintly of fresh paint and mildew, the kind of scent that clung to the walls of a place left unoccupied for too long. A single worn-out couch sat against the far wall, flanked by a small table with a chipped edge. The landlord in me knew the place needed work, a new coat of paint, a proper cleaning, but tonight, it was a sanctuary.

My mother and grandmother thought I was here late to finish painting and get it ready for the next tenant. I let them believe it. The truth was a far cry from their expectations.

When Isla walked in, the space felt even smaller. Her presence was magnetic, a pull I couldn’t resist no matter how hard I tried. But tonight, there was something different about her. She stood just inside the doorway, her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes darting around like she was afraid someone would catch her.

“Marco,” she said, her voice quiet but firm.

I set down the paintbrush I’d been holding and wiped my hands

Sade's POV Friday Before Memorial Day Weekend The warm breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass and charcoal, a prelude to what was sure to be an unforgettable block party. Sade stood on her front porch, arms crossed as she surveyed the neighborhood. The block was already buzzing with excitement. Families were outside, making last minute repairs to their grills, kids rode their bikes up and down the sidewalk, and the older men on the block stood in small clusters, drinking from brown paper bags, talking about how “back in the day” block parties used to be. This was the first one in three years, and everyone was going all out. "Hey, girl, what you doin’?" Claudia called from across the street, holding a big case of sodas in her arms. Sade smirked. "Trying to make sure everything is ready. You know this block gotta be perfect for Saturday." Claudia rolled her eyes, stepping onto Sade’s porch with a huff. "You ain't gotta tell me. My mama already cussed me out for trying to s

Anonymous POV As March faded into April, the affair between Marco and Isla deepened, their stolen moments growing more frequent and reckless. Their designated meeting place, the basement apartment Marco was renovating had transformed from a project into a secret haven. A place where guilt was momentarily forgotten, and reality was left at the door.At first, it was just an occasional visit, a quick excuse, a whispered text. But now, Marco spent more time there than he did at home. He had stopped cooking as often, something that once brought him pride. His phone never left his side, his showers became longer, and his excuses for being out late piled up. The pandemic had slowed sales at Harley-Davidson, shifting more business online, yet Marco still insisted he needed to visit stores in person. It didn't add up, but Sadé never questioned it. Her attention was consumed by her work, focused on clinical trials that were making breakthroughs. She had chosen to work in the lab rather than f

March’s TensionWeeks had flown by in a whirlwind of busy schedules, but the tensions were rising beneath the surface. Sade's clinical trials had been yielding rave reviews, and she had been traveling more, attending conferences, and meeting with other specialists. With her focus on work intensifying, she found herself relying more on family and friends to help with the kids, especially Marco Jr, Kamari and her twins, Trinity and Justice, who were about to turn two on March 15th and Kamari turning 6 on March 21st.While Sade was deep in her professional life, Isla was navigating her own complex situation at home. Married to Shane, and with three children of her own, Isla had managed to create some flexibility in her schedule, especially since her work was largely remote after the pandemic. But no matter how busy she was, there was always Marco.Their relationship had grown from flirtation to something far more intense. It started with texts innocent enough, but now, the messages were

But it was too late. The door creaked open, and Sade stood before him, looking breathtaking. Her radiant caramel skin seemed to glow in the soft light, and her outfit, an elegant blouse and a form-fitting pencil skirt that hugged her curves in all the right places. She was effortlessly beautiful. He had to pause for a moment, taking her in. “Wow, you look absolutely beautiful,” he said, his voice soft but sincere.Sade’s smile was warm and genuine as she greeted him. “Thanks, Mr. Rossi. How’s everything going?” she asked, adjusting the tablet in her hand while balancing her briefcase and handbag.“I can’t complain,” he said, trying to keep his composure. “How’s the family? Everyone good?”“Yeah, everyone’s great. Thank you for asking. The kids are keeping me busy, as always,” she replied, her tone light and easy.

Sade and Cheryl's conversation flowed easily as the car hummed down the highway toward St. Louis. They’d been gossiping about everything under the sun, from Sade’s relationship with Marco to their kids, and Sade was already making plans for their upcoming celebration.“So, Marco and I are finally back to where we used to be,” Sade said, her voice light. “We’re having fun again, joking around. He's not so hot and cold anymore. The kids are doing great, too.”Cheryl nodded, a grin tugging at her lips. “That’s good to hear. I know it was rough there for a while, but looks like you’re in a good place now.”“I think so. Actually, I’m planning a birthday party for the babies. They’re turning two in March. I want to do something special, but not the usual Chuck E. Cheese thing,” Sade continued, her tone thoughtful. “I was thinking somewhere different. You know, like a kid friendly play place, but something outside of the norm. Maybe a trampoline park, or one of those big indoor playgrounds.”
