(Claire’s POV)

“So you don’t trust me, huh? What I would like to know is why you let me lick you so good. You whimpered all night long,” Luca said, his words so vulgar my core throbbed in response.

What a bad response.

He cornered me at a space under the stairs. His frame blocked out all the air—and my thoughts included. His scent was male cologne mixed with danger and heat. As I moved to give myself some space, I realized I was already against the wall. He was far too close for my health.

His eyes were so intense, it was like they were looking into my very soul. His gaze moved over my mouth and a little lower.

“So you end up in bed with random men you don’t trust? Or was that just a convenient mistake?” he asked, his words mocking me.

I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of an answer. If he wanted me to break, he had to try a lot harder.

“So you won’t say anything, gemita roja?” he asked.

I was tempted to clarify that my name wasn’t whatever he was calling me, but I held mysel

Claire POVHe kissed me like he was sucking my soul. It seared itself into every crevice of my chest. His lips pressed harder against mine, and his tongue explored mine. My body folded into him, wanting him to take this further and not stop his torment. In that moment, Luca consumed me.But reality hit me, and with great effort I pulled away, trying to put distance between us.“We should go… it’s getting late. We can’t…” I whispered. He caught my wrist, holding it before I could take another step backwards. His eyes burned into mine. “Don’t run from this, Gemita.”“I’m not running from this,” I lied breathlessly.Instead of letting my wrist go, Luca pulled me closer, such that I could feel his bulge pushing against me.“Stop lying, baby. It does not suit you. Every day we spend in that God damn house we pretend like this thing between us is not fire—a fire that will in time eat us both alive. We call ourselves brother and sister, when our blood tells the real truth,” he murmured.I fl

Claire's POVThe dining hall was so beautiful. To think that my father’s was. The table was so long it could fit 200 guests comfortably, and that is me over-exaggerating. The sunlight streamed in through the slightly opened windows.I sat right beside Luca. I could feel his posture stiffen. I wondered why he was always uptight and never free, but in this situation I could guess it was because of me. He was too restrained. Just across from us was his uncle, who kept taking one drag after the other of oxygen. You must not ask him what’s wrong with him. It’s none of your business, I chanted in my head.“Claire, I owe you another apology for dragging you into all of this. My nephew and I are both guilty of not being open and understanding toward you,” Stefan said as he took another drag of breath.Anxiety crept up my spine as I lowered my gaze to my plate. My throat felt swollen. I couldn’t even swallow the little bit I had been chewing.“I should be the one apologizing to you. I misunder

Luca’s POVA loud shout, like that of a man, was heard, but the words said were undecipherable.“What the fuck was that?” my uncle asked.“Stay here, Uncle,” I muttered.I didn’t know, but I had to find out. I went to the hallway and saw none of the guards were present. If there was a threat, could Charles Black possibly come for Claire?I walked back to the bathroom and pushed open the door. The room was empty with no trace of her.“Claire,” I said, but no response. Only complete silence greeted me.Panic simmered in my chest. She was out of my reach. Anyone could get her. Why did I fucking leave her there? Why didn’t I just wait for her? Why did I assume she knew her way back?My hands curled into fists.“Damn,” I cursed, hitting my palm on the door.I went back to my uncle, who was in the living areas, and I began to pace, calculating where she must have gone and who took her.“What’s wrong, boy?” he said.“I checked for Claire in the bathroom, but she’s not there. None of your gua

Luca POVI left her in the bathroom. I could still feel her legs trembling against me, and I wondered if, when I’m planted between her thighs, she would tremble even more. The taste of her still lingered on my tongue.Against my body’s desires, I had to leave her there. She felt so good, so perfect in my arms.Every step I took away from her was like a punishment. Each step dragged me from the woman I craved and wanted so badly. By the time I reached the living area, I forced my mask back on.My uncle was waiting. He was seated like a king on a leather single-seater, like it was a dying throne. The hiss of his oxygen filled the room. His fingers tapped on the armrest to a rhythm I remembered hearing as a child.I picked a seat on the beige sofa that was older than my entire existence. Sometimes, I still wonder why that sofa was not already used up.“Hey, boy. Is she okay? She looked very horrified,” my uncle said, getting my attention.“No, actually, she just misunderstood our joke an

  • No One Like You    Chapter 38: to be threatened

Claire’s POVMy face went pale at his words. He was threatening me. He was threatening to kill me if I mention anything about what went down there. The question in my mind was, what exactly did they have in store for me?Maybe later I will find out. But not knowing makes me feel unsafe here. I turned to look at Luca. He had a smile on his face. What was he smiling about? I was just threatened by his uncle and all he could do was smile.Suddenly the older man and Luca started cackling. I wondered what was so funny. Were they laughing at me? I swear if I had died, my ghost would definitely come for them without fail.“You should see the look on your face,” Luca said, pointing at me.I still did not get what was happening. I was confused. I looked from him to his uncle, who was hunched over laughing and coughing all at the same time.“I don’t think she gets it,” Uncle Stefan said, looking at his nephew and laughing.“I know, and it makes it all the more funny,” Luca said.I shook my head

  • No One Like You    Chapter 38: Bad aim

Claire’s POVMy aim was bad, but I was glad for it, if not, that handsome devil would not look handsome anymore. The vase I threw at him landed on the wall and then the floor, the water spilling out.Maddie, who gasped beside me, was now laughing one of her wicked laughs.“Oh my gosh, Claire, you are crazy, you threw it at him!”Then irritation filled me up as I heard him laugh at me too. He wasn’t bothered by my little crazy stunt, the man felt I was his entertainment.I looked to my best friend, but she had stopped laughing and was now a bit self-conscious. She walked briskly to the walk-in closet, which was very visible to both me and Luca. She hauled some dress to her chest as she hurried off to the bathroom. When the door clicked shut, I looked back at Luca.“So why are you in my room, Luca?” I demanded.Luca’s eyes roamed my body, the hunger so clear in his eyes. He wasn’t even ashamed. He didn’t try to hide it. I felt heat pool at my center. He breathe in deeply. “Because you w
