LAUREN'S POV

As I stood in front of him — arms crossed, chest heaving, my words still echoing in the air — I expected defiance. Maybe even silence. I braced myself for Ethan to shake his head, tell me no, maybe walk away like he always did when things got uncomfortable.

But instead… he laughed.

Laughed.

A deep, shameless laugh that cut deeper than any insult could have. His shoulders moved slightly with each chuckle, and he stared at me like I’d just told the funniest joke in the world.

I raised a brow, confused and disgusted. “What’s so funny?” I asked.

He wiped an invisible tear from the corner of his eye. “And why exactly would I do that?”

My stomach twisted. “Because you’re a married man, Ethan,” I said through gritted teeth. “You already have a family. You have a daughter. You have me. And even if you don’t have the decency to do it for me, at least do it for Elena.”

I paused, hoping — begging — for something in him to soften. For a trace of the man I once loved to show th

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 079

LAUREN'S POV Today, I didn’t even need my alarm. Long before the alarm could cut through the morning silence, my eyes were already open, staring at the faint glow of dawn slipping in through the curtains. It was 5:39 a.m. according to the clock on the nightstand. Maybe it was a bit too early. But I didn’t care. I couldn’t take chances, not with today. Not with something that could define the next phase of my life. Better to get there hours ahead of time than risk missing it entirely. For a second, it felt almost like I wanted to leave this country. Like I was actually eager to step into this new work life that had been presented to me — eager to escape everything that had tied me down here, the shadows of the past, the betrayals I was still trying to stitch myself back together from. By 6:00 a.m., I was already bathed, dressed, and ready. My hair, which I had fussed over far longer than I needed to, finally settled perfectly into place, not a strand out of line. My shoes shined

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 078

LAUREN'S POVThe sound of the luggage box zipping cut sharply through the quiet room, that metallic rasp breaking into my thoughts like a reminder of finality. It was the sound of closing doors, of a chapter ending, of me stepping into something entirely new. I had been staring at the ceiling moments earlier, my mind restless, when Tessa finally finished convincing herself that calling a doctor wasn’t necessary.I’d had to beg her not to. She was stubborn, her concern etched into every gesture, but eventually, she let me win this one. That was one small relief, at least. Now, she crouched by the bed with the packed box standing proudly beside her, zipped, neat, and heavy. Every necessary dress, every professional piece I owned, now lay folded inside, ready for wherever the next few days would take me.I rose slowly, legs stiff from sitting too long, and crossed the short distance to my bedside. My hand hovered over the small wooden table, over the one thing I always found myself looki

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 077

ETHAN’S POV I was no longer married to that woman Lauren, all these years she has been choking me in a marriage I had second thoughts of going into from the beginning. Now I’ve finally corrected that mistake from my life, I’ve removed that problem, but that was just one of the many problems piled up in front of me, like the one I was staring at right now I don’t know how many times I’ve stared at the numbers on the reports today. Same pages, same red lines, same sharp dip at the end of every graph. No matter how many times I look at them, they don’t change. The company is bleeding money. It’s like watching someone you love fight for their life, and all you can do is sit there with your hands tied. I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my eyes. My office felt colder than usual. Or maybe it was just me. Maybe it was the weight pressing on my chest that made everything feel so heavy. My company wasn’t just a company to me. It was my life. It was my blood, my sweat, and my name. I buil

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 076

LAUREN'S POV My eyes fluttered open slowly, the brightness above me instantly entering my vision. The harsh ceiling light felt like a thousand needles stabbing into my pupils, and I winced, instinctively raising my hand to shield my face from it. For a few seconds, the world around me spun in a dizzy blur, and when I tried to sit up, a sharp, pounding headache rushed in so suddenly that I nearly groaned. My hand flew to my temple, massaging the spot in a useless attempt to ease the throbbing pain. “Take it easy,” Tessa’s voice drifted gently to me. I felt her hand against my shoulder as she carefully supported me into a sitting position. Her tone was calm, but I could hear the concern hidden beneath it, like she was trying not to panic. It took me a moment to register exactly where I was. My gaze slid past her and toward the kitchen. My eyes caught on the empty space near the counter, the exact spot where I had collapsed. The image of falling replayed hazily in my mind, the world t

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 075

LAUREN'S POV “So in short, Ms. Lauren, I suggest you head back home today. Tell whoever you want to tell, give them a farewell goodbye, pack up and get ready, because you’re leaving as soon as possible,” the manager said with a stiff, professional tone that carried no room for argument. I blinked, my lips parting slightly as if I had misheard her. “If you don’t show up at the airport tomorrow,” the other guy seated beside her added, his voice sharper, “we’ll take it that you do not want to go, and that you’ve dropped your position as Business Development Manager.” My mouth fell open. “But…” I was immediately cut off by the manager, who didn’t even give me the courtesy of completing my sentence. “That would be all,” she said firmly. “Any further information will be sent to your email. Thank you.” The finality in her tone was like the slamming of a door in my face. Then, as if my presence in the room was now a burden, she tilted her head toward the door, gesturing for me to leav

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 074

LAUREN'S POV “Wait… so what are you saying now?” I asked, my voice carrying more disbelief than I intended. My mind struggled to process what the manager had just said, as though the words had been spoken in a foreign language I didn’t quite understand. “Exactly what you heard,” the manager replied, her tone calm yet firm, as though this was a simple matter of business. “You’re being transferred to Italy to work for one of Hale Industries’ branches.” For a moment, all I could do was stare at her, then let my gaze shift toward the men seated across from her, their expressions unreadable, their silence almost oppressive. It felt like they had delivered a verdict, one that they expected me to accept without question. Italy. Did she really expect me to leave everything behind, to cross an ocean just for a job I had barely started? My chest tightened at the thought, my pulse racing as a wave of resistance surged through me. “Ma’am, with due respect… I don’t think that would be possib
