ROMAN'S POV

Aria is definitely going to appreciate all this chocolate, I thought to myself as I stared at the love basket sitting neatly on the table.

I lowered myself onto the couch, running a hand over the armrest absentmindedly. The room was quiet except for the soft ticking of my wristwatch. Lauren had gone to answer the door a few minutes ago, and she said it was probably Tessa. But now it had been over five minutes.

What’s taking her so long?

I checked my watch again. Maybe Tessa decided to chat a little longer at the door. Still, Lauren wasn’t the type to just linger in small talk, especially not when there was food to put away.

Something felt… off.

Then, I heard her voice.

“What are you doing here? How did you find this place?”

Her tone wasn’t the usual calm, polite one I’d grown used to hearing from her. It was sharp, laced with irritation, and underneath that, something else.

I straightened a little on the couch, my head turning toward the hallway. I coul

LAUREN'S POV“I don’t really need much, I just need to pay off someone I’ve been owing here for a while,” Liz said over the phone, her voice carrying a subtle edge of urgency that made me stand up straighterI cleared my throat, trying to keep my voice steady as I replied. “Ok… how much?” I asked, my fingers tapping lightly against the back of my phone “Five thousand,” she said plainly, as if it were a number I could easily pull out of nowhere.I paused for a moment, letting the number sink in. Five thousand was pocket change, but it also wasn’t something I can just dash away, no matter the millions that sits in my account and the billions that sits in Romans, I still respect every dime I have because once upon a time five thousand could feed me for an entire month.I exhaled softly, feeling a hint of tension from the long day pressing against my shoulders. “Alright, just send me the account I need to transfer the money to, and I’ll do it immediately,” I said, trying to sound casual

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0241

LAUREN'S POV I walked into the living room, my heels making soft taps against the floor as I stepped further inside. The lights were on, the curtains half-drawn, everything looking exactly the way it normally did, yet somehow the atmosphere felt different. A kind of heaviness lingered in the air, something I couldn’t exactly place. Maybe it was just me being tired, but still… something felt off. Almost like the house had exhaled a long sigh right before I walked in. I found it a bit strange that Liz hadn’t texted me to say she’d settled in. Especially considering how we practically missed each other this morning by just a few minutes. Even if she was still getting used to her new surroundings, at least a short "I've settled in” message should’ve come through. The silence made me pause for a moment, looking around the room again, trying to figure out why everything felt so unusually quiet. I know I was only staying with Roman, but the whole house just felt off today, like something

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0240

LAUREN'S POV “I honestly don’t get why you guys don’t like her,” I said to Tessa through the phone, my voice soft but confused as I sat in the back of my car. The cool leather seat felt too comfortable for how uneasy I was beginning to feel. My driver kept his pace smooth, quiet, almost invisible, but somehow the silence in the car felt heavy. “It’s not like she did something wrong to you guys,” I added, my thumb rubbing the side of my phone slowly. “It’s not about her doing anything wrong,” Tessa replied, her tone sharp but controlled. “It’s about the fact that I don’t trust her. The way she behaved when she came over… I could clearly see what she was trying to do.” I let out a long breath through my nose. “Tessa, you can’t just judge someone from their appearance, and secondly, what do you think she was trying to do?” There was a pause on the phone. I knew that sigh she gave, the type she released only when she didn’t want to say something because she knew it would cause proble

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0239

ROMAN'S POV I stood there in shock, staring at Elizabeth in front of me. For a moment I couldn’t even move. My hand stayed frozen on the door handle, my shoulders stiff, my breath slightly stuck in my chest. I wanted to speak, but no words came out at first. My brows pulled together on their own, because honestly… I never thought Elizabeth or any woman in her right senses would do what Elizabeth just did. I thought I had seen it all. From betrayal, to finding out I had a child, to watching that same child be taken from me, to fighting tooth and nail just to locate her and bring her back home. I’ve been pushed mentally, physically, emotionally — I’ve been broken and pieced back together more times than I can count. But I never expected something like this. Elizabeth stood right at my door, biting down on her index fingernail, staring at me with that lust-filled look that she didn’t even bother to hide. And what made it worse, what made it far more shocking was the fact that she c

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0238

ROMAN'S POV I slowly turned back around, my brows raised as I didn’t expect to hear what I thought I just heard. There was a pause, a fraction of a second where the words seemed to echo in my mind, forcing me to refocus. “What did you just call me?” I asked, my voice firm, yet holding just enough incredulity to let her know that what she had said was entirely out of line. “Daddy, is it wrong to call you daddy?” she asked, her tone laced with an almost deliberate innocence, like she had rehearsed the question in her mind to gauge my reaction. “Why would you even call me daddy, when I’m not your father?” I asked, my tone sharpening slightly. It was a simple question, but it carried a weight, an edge I didn’t bother hiding. “Well, I just wanted to see what Aria feels when she calls you that,” Elizabeth said, her words falling carefully into the space between us, precise and calculated. “What? Aria is a child, my child, which last I checked you’re a grown adult,” I said, my voice ri

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0237

ROMAN'S POV “No, not at all. I’m sure you saw the other vehicle that passed you just before you stopped here. That was Lauren. I’m standing here because I was seeing her off,” I said, my voice steady, calm, carrying just enough casualness to hide the tension under the surface. “Seeing her off?” Elizabeth asked, a little confused, her brow slightly furrowing, eyes narrowing ever so subtly as if she was trying to read my tone, to figure out whether I was serious or joking. “Yes. Didn’t she inform you that she wasn’t going to be around when you came?” I asked, letting my gaze linger just long enough for her to feel the weight of the question, to sense that this wasn’t a trivial matter. “No, she didn’t. I texted her a few minutes ago. She should have told me, but she didn’t. Maybe she must have forgotten,” Elizabeth said, her words carefully chosen, casual in tone but a little too precise. I noticed it, the slight uptick in her voice when she mentioned Lauren not being around. It wasn
