Chapter 3

Author: Clear Drizzle
Cindy instantly put on the look of a victim. Her voice turned soft and pitiful. "Is this how you treat your passengers? I'll be filing a complaint against all of you. I've had training before, and I know too many complaints can ground you for good."

I drew a deep breath, forcing my anger back down. Then, I slowly bent into a half-squat before her.

With the wine glass in hand, I wore the perfect professional smile and spoke evenly. "Of course, ma'am. We'll serve you."

Cindy's face brightened like she'd just won a glorious battle. She let out a shrill peal of laughter. "During training, you kept telling me I wasn't fit and didn't meet the standards. But looking at you now, I realize you fit the job better than I do."

She suddenly leaned forward. Her gaze was sharp, and her grin dripped with scorn as she spat, "You're only fit to kneel and serve me!"

My fingers tightened on the glass, and I was about to respond, but she moved faster.

"Oh my! I'm sorry. My hand slipped."

The wine splashed over me, soaking into my hair and uniform. It trickled down my temple and to my face like threads of blood, cold and cloying. Each drop was a sting of humiliation that cut to the bone.

I couldn't keep it in anymore. I spun around and sprinted for the restroom.

My hand wouldn't stop trembling as the door slammed shut behind me. In the mirror, I caught sight of my drenched uniform and a disheveled figure staring back at me.

Meanwhile, Cindy's mocking laughter pierced through the walls from outside, and each giggle drove into my ears like nails.

Cindy was gone from her seat when I came out with water still dripping from my hair.

The crew exchanged nervous glances. Their gazes were filled with a mixture of emotions.

"What happened?" I asked, instantly on guard.

Just then, the co-pilot stepped out of his cockpit, and he seemed uneasy. "Nothing happened. It's just that Cindy's inside, and Mr. Crowley asked me to come out."

One of the attendants mumbled beneath her breath, unable to keep her anger back anymore, "Ms. Henson, he doesn't respect you at all. You're working yourself up for this flight, yet he…"

"Don't let people like him interfere with our work," I cut her off with a sharp whisper while digging my nails hard into my palm.

I took a deep breath and braced myself. We were only halfway through the flight, so we couldn't afford chaos now.

When meal service came around, I pushed the food cart to the cockpit as per procedure.

The moment the door opened, I heard a burst of flirtatious laughter.

Cindy sat on the co-pilot's seat, wrapped in Edward's jacket and posing dramatically for pictures.

When she spotted me, she waved with a smile. "I know the rules, Ms. Henson. I'll ask the co-pilot to return very soon. I just wanted to experience being a co-pilot for a while."

Edward leaned back in his seat, and his expression was cold. "Don't act so self-righteous. Are you going to report to the higher-ups again? If you really want to marry me, you should stop playing petty games."

Then, he stood up and walked toward me. His voice dropped to a mocking whisper as he warned, "I'll treat you well if you behave. But if you dare target Cindy like before, I won't let you off!"

I wanted to fling the meal tray at his head for a split second. The words 'I don't want to marry you anymore' nearly escaped my throat, but rationality pulled me back. Hundreds of passengers were on this plane, and I couldn't let him jeopardize their safety.

"I understand," I answered through clenched teeth.

Edward was satisfied with my response and smiled. "That's more like it. Since you understand, stand guard at the door and do not let anyone in."

So I stood outside the cockpit and listened to the murmurs and soft laughter within. The thick air of intimacy seeped out, piercing my chest one needle at a time.

When Edward was at his lowest point, I wrote his reflection reports and took on the pressure from the airline so that he could keep his job. Yet time and again, I stood at the terminal exit countless times, watching other women get picked up, while he never showed up for me.I kept convincing myself that he cared, but he was just too busy and reserved to show it. Again and again, I found excuses for him.And now, he was finally there at the exit with flowers in his hand, but I no longer needed them.…Later, Edward tried to contact me. At first, he sent text messages and emails, then voice messages, and finally handwritten letters. They were always the same sort of messages."I'm sorry. I know it's all my fault.""Cindy tricked me. I never truly understood my own heart.""Do you remember our first overnight flight? You secretly drew a route for me at the back of the cabin and said one day, you'd fly with me across the world."I read them at first, but never felt the urge to re

The official report was brief and straightforward.Cindy was placed in criminal custody and handed over to the judicial authorities. She was ultimately sentenced to 23 years and 8 months in jail for acquiring and trafficking high-concentration addictive drugs, carrying aviation contraband, and disrupting flight order.Though not directly responsible for transporting contraband, Edward was found guilty of abandoning his post mid-flight, smuggling a non-crew member into the cockpit, and obstructing cabin safety inspections. His license was revoked, and he was permanently banned from flying. The rest of the crew was cleared of all responsibility and instead awarded commendations. I was promoted for upholding procedure and handling the situation with a proper strategy. The room stayed utterly silent. I swept my gaze across the hall and said, "I didn't know beforehand. I had to know, as that was my duty as lead flight attendant."…The next day, I heard a tap on my office door just as

After the lawyer left, the airline began receiving calls from the Crowley family, pressuring them to drop this matter. As a result, the company instantly called in an emergency meeting to contain the damage and public opinion, scrambling to put out fires while also settling accounts.I was summoned to the senior conference room, where two options were placed before me. Either be transferred to the ground team as an "involved party," effectively being marginalized.Or be assigned to remote branch routes, ending any chance of flying high-end routes or getting promoted.I listened quietly and nodded before asking, "May I say something?""Go on." The executives exchanged looks.I smiled before turning my phone screen toward them. On the screen glowed a trending headline. "Flight Attendant Exposes Captain for Contraband. Passenger's Footage Goes Viral."The HD footage captured the arrest from every angle, and the comments overflowed with awe."I'm a fan of that cool lead flight

"I've already told you this is all a misunderstanding. Once I prove my innocence, all of you will pay for this!" Edward growled.Cindy eagerly chimed in, "Edward has connections, and he can make all of you lose your jobs!"Edward turned to glare at me and hissed, "Your crew's psychological evaluation clearly isn't up to standard. I'll file a report and have the entire team grounded and transferred to ground duty. You can all forget about flying again!"The air froze instantly. One of the flight attendants' faces turned pale, and she clenched her fists angrily. "Don't push your luck!"Edward sneered at her words and challenged, "Oh, so now you're scared? Weren't you quite brave when you were mocking us earlier? Just sit tight. Your time's coming!""What's the rush? The inspection isn't over yet," I stated coldly. With that, I moved closer to the luggage and crouched beside it. I reached my hand into the pile of scattered lingerie and special toys and retrieved a lace bra among th

"Fine!" Edward scoffed, and the disdain on his face was clear. "If nothing turns up in this so-called investigation, I'll break off our engagement the moment I get out!"Before he could continue, I pulled a document from my bag and slammed it in front of him. "There's no need to wait. You can sign it now."My gaze was cold as I spoke with calm finality. "This agreement ends our engagement. From now on, you and I owe each other nothing."Upon hearing my words, Edward froze in place. His eyes locked on the agreement while his mind went blank. "What did you just say?"I chuckled at his reaction and said, "You threaten to leave me whenever I disagree. Do you really think I'm afraid no one else would marry me? The truth is, I stayed because I valued this relationship. But from now on, you don't even have the right to threaten me anymore."His expression fell, and as he opened his mouth, Cindy grabbed his arm and burst into tears. "Ms. Henson, please don't break off your engagement beca

"That's impossible! I'm being framed!" Edward roared and thrashed desperately against their grip. "I'm a qualified captain! You can't treat me like this!"The inspector's expression remained stern. "Since you're in authority, you should know better. Every time you abandoned your post or violated regulations, the airline logged it. And with a crew member's cooperation, we've already confirmed the presence of contraband in this cabin." Then, he waved his hand at the security officials. "Take them away."Cindy instantly panicked. She screamed and lunged toward Edward. "I don't know anything! I'm Edward's girlfriend, and he's the one who told me to bring that suitcase. I never touched it!"The inspector raised a brow at her and deadpanned, "We don't care whose girlfriend you are. We'll find out who owns the suitcase. Take them both away."Under his instruction, the officers dragged them out of the cabin. Outside, the security passage was already sealed off. The corridor erupted int
