Celeste’s POV

“Celeste, I’ve been looking all over for you. Long time no see.”

I looked up at the drop dead gorgeous man in front of me in bewilderment.

A pair of dimples cut into his sculpted face as he smiled at me. My eyebrows furrowed at the hint of affection that twinkled in his green eyes.

I hadn’t a clue who he was.

“Celeste, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten all about me?”

He placed an elbow on the cocktail table beside me and lazily rested his chin on his hand, narrowing the space between us. Thick, dark lashes framed his eyes. They were deeper and clearer than the finest jade gemstones I’d ever seen.

The man’s gaze delicately brushed my face, as if committing each feature to memory.

“I could never forget you.”

His voice was a husky murmur so low I could just make out the words.

It sent my heart racing.

I was a grown woman. I couldn’t let this twenty-something year old kid charm me into a puddle on the banquet hall floor.

“Ryan Edwards,” He stood tall and extended a hand, “Not

Vanessa’s POV“For the protection of the public and the integrity of the judicial process, the Court orders that Vanessa Abrams be remanded without bail.” My heart plummeted through the floor of the courtroom as the judge gave her verdict.“No! You can’t do that!” I screamed, panic climbing up my throat. “Give me bail! I can’t stay locked up for something I didn’t do!”The judge gave me a stern look, and I shut my mouth. I had already been warned multiple times to behave myself in court or face additional charges. My state issued attorney stood. “Your honor, please take Miss Abrams’s pregnancy into consideration and allow her to await trial under house arrest.” The judge studied me before shaking her head. “This Court cannot, in good conscience, release a defendant accused of such a violent and deliberate act with video evidence. Her erratic behavior raises serious concerns, and the risk of flight is substantial.”Life drained out of me. I shook my head, tears streaming down my face,

Celeste’s POV“Why are you asking me about Crown Luxe? How would someone like me–just starting out–get a position at such a prestigious company?” Ryan asked, voice unreadable.“Robert Hughes seems to think you should be working in management there, so I can’t be that off base.” I said coldly. “Do you have a connection at Crown Luxe? Is that how you got me Maxmilian’s business card?”He stilled, but he seemed coiled with energy, ready to explode.“I’m right, aren’t I?” I said, numbed with shock. “Then what are you doing here, Ryan? Why would you work as my assistant when you have better opportunities?”He screwed his eyes shut and ran both hands through his hair, his stoic expression breaking. My heart pounded in my chest as he took a deep breath, as he came to a decision. What if I were right? What if he left?I suddenly wished I could take my speculation back–I wasn’t ready to let him go.“I lied,” Ryan said, his hands dropping to his sides. “I was trying to impress Michelle’s parents

Celeste’s POV“Damn, girl,” Grace said appreciatively as I walked into the studio. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’ve secretly started seeing someone.”I couldn’t fight the blush that crept up my cheeks.Halfway through dinner, I saw Ryan and Michelle leaving the restaurant together. My obsessive brain imagined what they’d be doing together once they got to their apartment, and it broke my heart. I decided that I wasn’t some desperate and decrepit loser pining after a taken man. I was still young, hot and wanted to feel good about myself.“Thanks, Grace, but I’m dressing for me.” I said, placing my bag at my design table. “I might as well show off my figure while I have it, right?” “Yes!” She smiled in approval. “You have it, so flaunt it, love. It’s great timing too.”“Why? What are you up to?” I asked, eyes narrowed at the mischievous glint in hers. Grace shrugged, feigning innocence. “Do you think Ryan will help us strike a deal with Hughes Industries to supply us with

Damien’s POVMy foot tapped restlessly on the cafe floor as I listened to a well-seasoned nanny drawl about her years of experience and discipline approach. I kept checking my watch, worried I wouldn’t have enough time to prepare for the massive board meeting today. Hiring staff used to be much quicker. I’d flip through CV pictures like a catalogue and choose the most attractive woman. I learned the hard way that employees are supposed to be functional, not decorative.Hosting these interviews was the last thing I wanted to do after Celeste’s cruel punishment last night, but Bonnie’s safety came first.“Thank you, Sophia.” I said when I was satisfied with her competence. “Can you start today? I’ll have my assistant send you the school and home addresses so you can fetch her today.”“Without a trial? Isn’t that a bit sudden for your–” I didn’t have time to chat. My company was under fire for plagiarism, and sales were at an all-time low. This board meeting was my last chance to show o

Ryan’s POV“That woman is supposed to be a CEO and Creative Director?” Robert scoffed, his thick brows furrowing. “She’s just a figurehead.”That crass comment slapped me back into my body.“Excuse me?” I asked, my voice low and even despite the brewing storm. He continued, leaning in with a conspiratorial tone. “We have to walk on eggshells with how sensitive everyone is these days. But don’t worry, son. I know you must have done all the heavy lifting to make that business a success.”I wasn’t sure what I’d done to show Michelle I was ready to explode, but she leaned over and gripped my arm. “Ryan, you need to calm down before you expose our scheme!” she whispered with urgency.“Did you see that dress?” Lisa cut in, eyes narrowing. “I suppose a divorced mother without a husband to rely on must resort to relying on… other assets.”That was the last straw.I stood and buttoned my blazer–fully intending on telling the ‘respectable’ Mr. and Mrs. Hughes where they could shove it–when Mich

Ryan’s POVDesire and fury ignited my body.A maroon dress outlined the curves of Celeste’s body like a second skin, flaring at her hips. The only time she had looked more beautiful was when she was completely bare in my arms on our passionate night together. She had dressed like a goddess, and it was all for Damien.“Who is this woman?” Lisa asked me with a disparaging undertone in her voice.I ripped my eyes away from Celeste before I did something stupid like run my hands over the velvety fabric hugging her waist.“How careless of me.” She said with a graceful laugh. “I just came inside from taking a phone call and was so surprised to see my assistant that I forgot to introduce myself.”Before she could continue, Robert’s eyes narrowed. “Your assistant?”My eyes darted furtively between Celeste and the Hughes. How was I supposed to explain why an heir to Crown Luxe was working as an assistant in a small studio without exposing my identity or jeopardizing my father’s contract? “Ye
