Celeste’s POV

Peals of screams and laughter filled the air as our gigantic teacup spun. Molly had a death grip on my hand, but the unfiltered smile on her face told me she was having a blast.

When the ride slowed, we climbed off breathlessly.

“We still have time before the royal parade,” I said as we weaved through the bustle. “Do you want to go on another ride while we wait?”

Molly nodded happily just as my eye caught a sign.

“Or do you want a princess makeover?”

Her big hazel eyes grew wide. “Can I really look like a princess?”

I smiled and led her towards the fairy godmother’s boutique. The lady behind the counter smiled a greeting, and lifelike fairy wings made Molly’s mouth fall open.

“Welcome, princesses,” she said whimsically. “Are you here for a magical transformation, or would you like to make an appointment for one of our royal packages?”

“We don’t have an appointment. Do you have any slots available for today?”

The hostess shook her head sympathetically. “I’m so sorry, but

Celeste’s POVI scratched a line through a design draft and gripped my head, fingers digging into my scalp in frustration. If only I could dig deeper and find the skill and creativity hiding beneath.“Auntie Celeste!” Molly gasped, half horror and half admonishment. “Why did you scribble on your design? It was so pretty.”I glanced at the serious little artist sitting at Ryan’s design table pulled right against mine. She’d drawn a tiara and was halfway done coloring it in.“Do you think it was pretty? It’s nowhere near as pretty as your design.”A smile lifted my lips when she blushed shyly.“Do you like it? It’s a princess crown for you.” Molly peered at my table. “What are you making?”I sighed, my smile dimming. In college, I’d done well in the design competitions, almost always placing in the top three. The key was not simply designing something breathtaking—although that was definitely important—but ensuring it fit the theme perfectly.Transcendent Love—a bond between a parent and

Ryan’s POVMy father and Robert laughed like old friends, trading anecdotes and plotting their children’s futures. I listened apathetically as I drained my glass of white Burgundy.Vivian seized the first moment of silence that settled over our table when the servers brought more refreshments.“Michelle, how did the fundraiser you were organizing for your family’s foundation go?” “Oh, it was lovely. Our guests had a wonderful evening—we raised nearly double our target at the auction.” She spoke with demure pride, then shot a quick, searching glance at her parents. “It wasn’t easy to put together, but it was a success.”“From someone as capable as you? I wouldn’t expect anything less.” My sister-in-law smiled encouragingly.“We have so much while so many are suffering. Father lets me throw extravagant parties to raise money for struggling communities.” Michelle smiled graciously. “Nothing brings me more fulfillment.”There was a sparkle in her eyes when she finished speaking. For a mom

Ryan’s POVA low whistle escaped my lips as I drove up to the Hughes estate. It was a thousand times grander in the early afternoon light than when I’d caught a glimpse while dropping Michelle off at night after a “date”. I shut off my car’s engine with a heavy sigh. After a restless night of wracking my brain for a way out of this mess and coming up blank, I was beyond tired. Each scenario I tried, Celeste got hurt in some way or other. My hands tightened on the steering wheel in a death grip. That simply was not an option.I’d rather lead an empty life with Michelle than let anyone hurt the woman I loved.I handed my car keys to the waiting valet and walked up to the house with more windows than I could count. My phone buzzed as I rang the doorbell. It was a video from Celeste. I quickly pressed play, and a smile spread across my face. Molly stood on a stool in front of the stove, nestled between Celeste’s arms. I watched her tentatively slide a spatula into the pan and carefully

Celeste’s POV“I don’t care if you stole my mommy since I threw her away first—she’s trash!”I tried to tell myself it didn’t hurt, that I didn’t care because Bonnie wasn’t my daughter anymore, but those words still stung like a dagger to the heart. Her mental state was worse than I could have imagined.“You can have her since your real mommy doesn’t love you!”She had become a monster.I glanced in the rearview mirror as Molly sniffled quietly. The sweet angel was so affected by Bonnie’s cruel words that it took nearly fifteen minutes for me to soothe her in the school’s parking lot. I was supposed to head back to the studio to finish up an order, but Molly’s sunken face pulled at my heartstrings. She needed tender care.Stopping the car outside a store, I twisted in my seat to face her.“What’s your favorite flavor of ice-cream, honey?” I asked with a wide smile. She perked up, blinking red-rimmed eyes. “Cookies and cream.”I shot Ryan a text to finish up the order and picked up the

Damien’s POVNever did I imagine that being unemployed could be so tiring. I spent the day driving my mother from store to store, helping her with an endless list of errands Vanessa had let slip. Restocking the pantry, picking up dry cleaning, shopping for stationery and uniform for Bonnie to start first grade. All paid for with Vanessa’s credit card.My mother prattled on about what she was making for dinner as we arrived at Bonnie’s school for pickup. I squared my shoulders and walked through the corridor with a smile on my face. My princess didn’t have to see how depressed her father was. But as I rounded the corner, the sound of Bonnie’s high-pitched scream made me freeze.“I hate you! I wish you would die!”I ran the last few strides and came to a dead stop in the doorway. My jaw hung open as I took in the mayhem.“I hope you get kicked out of this school so I don’t have to see you next year! You’re the worst!” Lily held Bonnie back as she thrashed in fury. Across the room, C
