"Rook, what's wrong?" I asked in concern.

"Nothing." He said softly.

"What do you mean it's nothing? So you drove all the way here and climbed through my window for nothing?" I asked him and he silently looked at me before nodding.

"Can we just pretend that it's nothing? You've got a way of making me feel better when I'm down." He said and I nodded before hugging him.

I sat down on my bed and I watched him sitting down on the floor. He rested his back against the side of my bed and I frowned lightly.

"Where were you today? You weren't at school." I said in realization and he looked up at the ceiling.

"My mom, we found out that she-- uh-- has cancer." He said and my heart skipped a beat. "She doesn't have long, Liv." He said and my eyes welled up with tears.

"I'm so sorry, Rook," I said before sitting down next to him and hugging him tightly.

"She was devastated when she found out." He said before he wrapped his arms around me. His soft sobs filled my room and I started crying wi
