Chapter 4

Author: Zora
Adrian was silent for a few seconds, then looked down and continued soothing Mia without answering.

Selena glanced at me and immediately put on an apologetic smile.

"Evelyn, I'm really sorry. Mia grew up on the West Coast. She's always been blunt. She's just a kid. Don't take it personally."

The words sounded like an apology but only made Mia smugger.

"I'm not wrong! Everyone at kindergarten knows Ivy's a bastard with no daddy. She's the one trying to steal mine!"

I clenched my fists and stared coldly at Adrian.

He said he was a germaphobe, so Ivy and I scrubbed the house until it was sterile as a hospital ward.

He used pack business as an excuse to stay out all night, and I swallowed it every single time.

But I would never let anyone humiliate my daughter like this.

"Adrian, I'm asking you one more time—

"Is Ivy a bastard?"

Irritation flickered in Adrian's eyes. He sneered. "You know better than anyone how she came to be.

"Enough. This is Mia's first visit here. Don't ruin it for everyone."

Selena and Mia exchanged a smug look.

Adrian picked Mia up, his voice instantly softening. "How about Daddy takes you shopping for toys?"

"I want that Frozen princess dress too!"

"Done." His eyes were full of adoration.

Watching him walk away, something in my heart went cold for good.

The words I had held back countless times finally left my mouth.

"Adrian, let's get a divorce."

He stopped in his tracks and turned back, his expression cold.

"Evelyn, do you think threatening me with divorce is going to make me accept you?

"If you think this is going to scare me, then fine. Have it your way."

He left with Mia in his arms and didn't look back.

A flash of triumph crossed Selena's eyes before she quickly hid it.

"I'm really sorry. There's nothing between Adrian and me. He just remembers the promise he made, and he feels bad that Mia doesn't have a father. That's the only reason he looks after us."

She reached for my hand, feigning concern.

"Don't let something this small come between you two."

Before leaving, she saved my number and said she would make it up to Ivy for the drawing.

"Selena, let's go."

Adrian stood at the door with Mia in his arms and called to her.

"Coming!"

Selena hurried out with a smile. The door hadn't fully closed, and their voices carried back clearly.

"Adrian, Evelyn only said divorce because she was upset. Why did you actually agree?"

He let out a mocking laugh.

"She gave up her position as Female Alpha of the Stormlands, waited for me for six years, and went through all that trouble to marry me. There's no way she'd actually leave.

"She was being too harsh on Mia, so I just taught her a lesson.

"Give it a few days, and she'll be begging me to come home, just like before."

I couldn't help but scoff.

Adrian, people change.

The Evelyn who would have given up her life for you is dead.

Now, for Ivy's sake, I'm leaving you for good.

A few months later, he proposed, and I turned him down.I wasn't ready to get married again, and he didn't push. He simply said he'd wait.He remembered every one of Ivy's parent-teacher meetings and stood outside her door when shifting frightened her, but he never asked her to call him Dad.I asked Ivy, "Would you like to have a new daddy?"She sneaked a glance at Lucas standing behind me and clapped her hands with a smile."If it's Lucas, then yes!"Adrian, outside the estate, saw the whole thing. His face went white. He stood there in silence for a long time, then left with a bitter smile.Soon after, the butler handed me a letter, saying Adrian had left it.Noah asked curiously, "What did he write?"I didn't open it. I tore it up and tossed it into the

I knelt down and asked Ivy, "Do you want to forgive Daddy?"Ivy looked at Adrian quietly and shook her head."No. Ivy doesn't have a daddy anymore."Everyone called me a bastard. Now I don't even care. Having Mommy is enough."Something behind Adrian's eyes shattered completely. He opened his mouth, wanting to say that he was her father. But facing Ivy's calm gaze, the words wouldn't come.I stood up and signaled the guards to escort him out."Adrian, you need to leave. I have a cross-border acquisition meeting in half an hour."In the months since returning to Canada, I had already closed several major deals for the Stormlands, bringing in over ten million dollars in revenue.Under Stormlands management, the Valley territory quickly regained stability. What crumbled fast was Adrian's personal business empire, which he still held in his own name after losing his Alpha status. He was too consumed with searching for us to manage anything, and Selena released every compromising photo from

Selena blocked his way, tears streaming down her face."If Evelyn left, it means she doesn't want to be found. Just let her go."Mia and I have been by your side for five years. Adrian, can't we start over? We could give Mia a real home."In the past, her tears always softened him. This time, however, he shook her off in irritation."If you want to give Mia a home, go find her real father."The woman I love is Evelyn, and Ivy is my only daughter. Selena, stay away from me."He posted videos looking for us, contacted the media, and sent requests to pack councils everywhere. But our new identities were under Stormlands protection. No one revealed our whereabouts to him.In his desperation, he suddenly thought of Noah."I know where they are."Two months later, Adrian appeared at the gates of the Stormlands estate, haggard and travel-worn."Evelyn, Ivy, I was wrong."In just two months, he looked like a different person. He dropped to his knees in front of the pack guards and begged me to

Adrian rushed to the kindergarten."I'm here to pick up Ivy."The teacher looked at him, puzzled. "Mr. Kaine, are you sure you have the right child? Aren't you Mia's father?"He stared blankly for a few seconds before managing to say, "Mia is just a friend's daughter. Ivy is my biological daughter."The teacher looked at him as if he had told a bad joke."Every time you've been here, you either pick up Mia or attend her parent-teacher meetings. Yet you act like you don't even know Ivy."And now you're saying Ivy is your daughter?"Adrian's expression darkened. "Where is she?""Ivy transferred out. Her mother said they were moving back to Canada for good. They left a week ago."He stood frozen."Canada? That's not possible."For five years, I had stayed in the Valley waiting for him. Because he said he didn't want to see me, I never once went to the West Coast to bother him.He knew how hard it was for me to manage the pack and raise our pup alone, yet he kept blaming me for the potion,

A week later, Ivy and I arrived in Alberta, Canada. The Stormlands pack territory sat at the foot of the Rockies. Noah came to the airport himself to pick us up.When I stepped outside, the familiar scent of pine and snow washed over me. For the first time in years, my wolf wasn't in pain. She simply lay quietly at the bottom of my heart. The moment Ivy saw Noah, she threw herself into his arms."Uncle Noah!"Noah lifted her high. "Little Ivy, did you miss your uncle?""Of course I did. Mommy says we're going to mooch off you from now on."The two of them burst out laughing. That night, after Ivy fell asleep, I told Noah everything that had happened. Finally, I said softly, "Noah, we were both wrong back then."Adrian never truly accepted me as his second-chance mate. You can't force love. I waited, I tried, and now it's time to let go."I'll be the Alpha the Stormlands needs, manage the Valley integration, and raise Ivy right. We'll be just fine without him."Noah's eyes were full of

"Adrian, you've been distracted all day." Selena's voice was soft. "What's going on?"He rubbed the bridge of his nose."Ivy was hospitalized too. She almost didn't make it. And I can't reach Evelyn."That afternoon, he couldn't sit still any longer."I need to go check on them. If something really happened to Ivy, Evelyn must be terrified."Before he could finish, Mia jumped off the bed and clung to his leg."Daddy, don't leave Mia!"Selena shot her a quick look, and Mia immediately burst into tears."Daddy has to stay with me, or I won't take my medicine!"Selena pretended to intervene. "Be a good girl, Mia. Daddy has things to do. Let him go."The child only held on tighter.Adrian's brow was furrowed, but he couldn't make himself move. His wolf kept clawing at him to leave, its paws scraping against his ribs, but one look at Mia's pale face convinced him to wait one more day.Daniel carefully reassured him. "Mr. Kaine, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about."Mrs. Kaine loves you
