MasukChapter 2
I have to prepare for a zombie apocalypse in one month, and I can't afford to be left vulnerable. I made a phone call to a trusted company that can renovate my apartment into something more structural, stronger, and definitely something that could manage me for an apocalypse.
I didn't stay in the company for long. I had a meeting with the team in charge of renovating my apartment. I told them to install iron doors and windows. They should wrap the walls with iron plates and make it soundproof. Install a surveillance camera everywhere in the building, even at my apartment door.
They were confused at my request but did not question further. My phone rang, and it was Sarah calling.
"Hey babes, why did I stop at your apartment and see like hundreds of workers renovating the whole place?" Sarah asked.
I rolled my eyes, running my hands through my hair. This hypocritical bitch.
"Oh, I just wanna make some changes, you know. I feel insecure about my apartment," I replied, making up a lame excuse.
There was a long pause on the line.
"Well, I don't even understand what you are saying. Meet me at that cafe close to your company."
"Okay." I hung up after that. I definitely do not want to see that disgusting face of hers again, but I have to agree to this before she starts questioning my behavior more. I'm sure Noah already told her about my attitude this morning.
My mind wasn't settled; I still had a lot of things I had to do. I need to get a new car. This one [name of car, expensive car] would be a lot of disadvantage here; I need an SUV jeep that is bulletproof. I remembered people shooting at me while riding my car just so they could take it from me. I also had to buy more provisions that would last me for more than a year.
"Babe, what has gotten into you? Why do I feel that you are moody today?" Sarah asked.
I left all my important assignments just to meet with her, and here she was asking me such a stupid question when she was the one going behind my back and having an affair with my fiancé.
I leaned close to the table, facing her.
"I will ask you one important question, Sarah, and you have to answer me honestly," I said, my voice dropping lower and fierce.
Looking nervous and surprised, she responded, "Sure, the way you say it gives me the chills."
"What is the relationship between you and Noah?"
The color drained from her face immediately. Sarah took a sip of her coffee before turning to me, fidgeting slightly.
"Ahh... what do you mean? Noah is just a friend, and your fiancé," she stuttered.
I raised a brow. "Yeah? Because it seems that both of you are fuckmates?" I paused, my voice dropping to something more hostile. "Or maybe something closer, for him to choose you over me?"
"What are you saying? Are you okay, Vivian? Why are you acting so weird?" she whispered.
"Just shut up, Sarah! I can't believe I was blind enough to trust you all this while, for four years!..."
"How did you know?"
I almost laughed, but since attention was already on us, I had to behave. "Is that all you care about now? Do not ever call me or speak with me, and while saving a phone call with Noah today, help me tell him our engagement and relationship are over," I spat in venom. I shoved her away slightly and walked out of the cafe.
I felt relieved. It felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off my shoulders. During the apocalypse, I became a ghost of my former self. I even helped two couples with food only for them to tell my neighbors that I had some supplies with me. That night, they raided my apartment. Nobody could break through Damian Stark's door because it was not a normal door. Even though he had taken me in, I still despised him. He was the one that pushed me out two years later, claiming that his supplies could only host 1 person.
I went back to my apartment to see the progress. They were still working. Not much was done actively, but as expected, since it was only today they started. But I needed things to be finished on time. I spoke to the boss.
"Is there any way you can finish this in a week?" I asked the plump-looking man.
He frowned slightly. "Ma'am, this is not just a regular kind of renovation you are asking for. It can even take up to three weeks."
"I really need it to be done in under two weeks. I will double the money if that's what it takes."
A grin spread across his face. "Then it's done. Your apartment will be looking like a fortress in two weeks. But seriously, ma'am, why did you ask for this kind of change?" he asked.
I thought about it. I pitied these innocent people, but I can't do anything to help. If I ever told anyone about this, they would never believe me. "For future purposes," I responded.
I have to go back to the company one last time today and deal with those bastards. I have a lot of work piling up, but it will all be useless in a month's time.
One second, two seconds, three seconds passed. The air remained dead quiet around us until Hellen finally let out a sound of pure disbelief."A what?!" she cracked out."Think about it. Why else would I fortify my place? Why would Damian Stark suddenly buy this entire building, drive everyone out, and start fortifying the whole property?" I pointed out.Hellen nodded slowly, as if she were processing the weight of it all."So, you are telling me that you and Damian Stark can see the future?" she asked calmly."No," I replied, giving her a deadpan look. "Look, everything already happened before. Two years into the apocalypse before I died, I woke up a month before it all started. I told you about your mother's sickness. You couldn't leave her but had no choice because the zombies were everywhere. They broke into your apartment first because it was the most vulnerable spot, and you even saved my life. I have seen it all, and that's why I'm telling you this."Hellen stared at me in shock
CHAPTER 5Two weeks left before the apocalypse, and my apartment was already done. Yesterday, I almost emptied the supermarket. My whole apartment was packed with stuff: food, weapons, gas, and I had even installed solar panels.I didn't see the need to go to work anymore. I just had to mentally prepare myself for that day. I didn't have anyone to run to, no family to look after or keep safe either. In two weeks, half the city would be turned into zombies, and I was here grooming myself in my apartment.I felt pity. What if I just warned them—these innocent people—or dug into it? Would I be able to stop it?The gas leaked first on Golden Lane Street. I hadn't been to that place, but at least I knew that was where Vance Villa was located. After the Starks, there were the Vances, their biggest rival. Somehow, if you knew the Starks, you knew the Vances. The Vances were not a family to speak of lightly.Something wasn't right here, and I couldn't wrap my head around it. Did the Starks ha
CHAPTER 4I spent the night at a nearby hotel. Although I refused to sleep, I kept thinking about the coming apocalypse. Today was the day of the meeting with Damian Stark, and I wasn't nervous one bit.I stopped by my apartment to check the progress. It was going well. The building was oddly quiet today, and to my surprise, the apartment next door was also undergoing a renovation—the same apartment that belonged to Damian during the apocalypse. He had already started fortifying it.Back then, when it first happened, I didn't think much about it. I just thought the person moving in might be on high alert, or I even thought he was a criminal. Something had changed. Why did it seem like all the neighbors were gone this time?I moved closer to one of the workers working on Damian's apartment."What happened here?" I asked. The man stared me up and down. "Are you the lady next door?"I nodded, and he gave me a wry smile. "Someone from the Stark team just bought this entire building and to
CHAPTER 3THIRD PERSON POVThe surprise was evident on the three people's faces. They had all been summoned to Vivian Lake's office without any prior notice. The HR manager, the finance department manager, and Vivian's secretary, Mark, stood together, wondering why their boss had suddenly called them for an urgent meeting. Perhaps it had something to do with the project involving Damian Stark."Aren't you the secretary? You should know why we were called," Collins, the HR manager, said to Mark.Mark shrugged. He already regretted telling them about their boss's unusual behavior that morning. Now, they wouldn't stop pestering him."There was no schedule for this, Collins. She doesn't even seem pleased about having to call you here. Will you two shut up?" Mark retorted sharply. The finance manager rolled his eyes. Before anyone could say anything else, the office door opened.Vivian Lake walked in. She smiled when she saw the three of them comfortably talking, but the smile didn't reach

CHAPTER 1VIVIAN'S POVAn unknown substance leaked into the air of Golden Lane Street. That was the beginning of the apocalyptic era.No one knew where the substance came from or who had released it.
