CHAPTER NINE: THE MEETING

Damian’s POV

I’m pacing.

Four steps to the window. Four steps back. The glass of whiskey on my desk is untouched. The merger file sits in my hands like a prop. I’ve read it three times already, but haven’t absorbed a word.

I pick up the whiskey, needing something to do with my hands.

And then I hear a knock.

“Come in.”

I already know it’s her. No one in this house knocks.

The door opens.

Aria steps inside. Hair down, in Soft shirt and old Pants that are too casual for a boardroom and too familiar for my bedroom.

I force my eyes back to the file. If I look too long, she’ll see it.

“Sir, what would you like me to do?”

Her voice is careful, keeping it Professional. It should cool me down. But It doesn’t.

Because do is a dangerous word when she’s standing in my room at night and I’ve been thinking about her thigh under my hand for the last hour.

This was a mistake. I need space.

I set the file down so hard the glass rattles.

“Study.” My voice comes out flat. “We’ll take the meeting in the study.”

Her brows pull together in confusion.

I walk past her without looking. If I stop, I won’t start again.

“Bring your notes, Miss Sinclair,” I say to the hallway. “And shut the door behind you.”

The study is colder and much more safer. I take my seat behind the desk like it’s a barricade.

She walks in two minutes later.

I dish out instructions. Time zones. Attendees. Talking points for the Sydney partners. She takes the couch across from me, laptop open, pen already moving.

I pretend to read the Q3 projections.

What I’m actually doing is tracking her. The sound of her pen. The way she tucks one leg under herself. The fact that she hasn’t looked up in six minutes.

I haven’t gotten a single word of work done.

The Zoom link glares at me from the screen. I click it. Error. Again. My jaw ticks. I’m thirty-four and being outmaneuvered by software.

“Miss Sinclair.”

Her head lifts.

“I need assistance,” I say, nodding at the monitor. “The call isn’t connecting.”

“Of course, sir.”

She stands. Crosses the room.

She leans over the desk to reach the keyboard. Close enough that I catch her shampoo. Something clean and cheap. It shouldn’t affect me.

It does.

I force my gaze to the screen. Not trying to look at her. Focusing on the error code is easier than focusing on how still she goes when she concentrates.

“Firewall issue,” she murmurs. Her fingers move. Efficiently. “You need to..”

“Just set it up.” My voice comes out sharper than I intend.

She doesn’t flinch. Just nods.

I should look away. But I can’t. I catalog instead, the set of her shoulders when she’s solving a problem. The way her brow furrows exactly 2mm when she’s irritated.

“All done,” she says, straightening. “They should be joining now.”

“Thank you.”

She moves back to the couch. Takes the laptop with her. Takes the distraction with her.

The screen blinks. Investors joining the call.

I exhale once. Quiet.

“Evening, Mr. Smith,” I say. Voice level. He’s our biggest capital line this quarter.

“Damian.” Smith leans back in his chair, vineyard visible behind him. “How are you?”

I don’t do small talk, but I play the game.

“Productive. And your family?” The words cost nothing. I don’t care about his twins or his vineyard. I care about the nine figures he controls.

“All well.” He adjusts his cufflinks. “So. I reviewed the deck.”

I cut straight through the preamble. “And?”

He chuckles. It’s not a good sound. “I’m hesitant.”

I let the silence sit.

“I invest in people, Damian. Not just companies.” He steeples his fingers. “Kane Enterprise… your values don’t align with mine.”

My jaw tightens. “Elaborate.”

“You and your brothers.” He says it like it’s a headline. “Every week, a new magazine New Woman. I don’t partner with men who can’t manage their personal brand.”

My eyes flick to Aria before I can stop them.

She’s frozen on the couch, pen mid-air. She heard it.

Why do I care if she heard it?

I focus back on Smith. “With all due respect, Mr. Smith, our personal lives aren’t relevant to quarterly projections.”

“I disagree.” He smiles without teeth. “How a man treats his commitments tells me how he’ll treat my money.”

I’m calculating the cost of telling him to go to hell when I hear movement.

Aria stands.

“Babe,” she says, sweetly. “You didn’t tell me you had a meeting.”

My blood turns to ice.

She’s walking toward me. Toward the camera.

I glare. What the fuck are you doing, I mouth.

Play along, she mouths back. Eyes blazing.

Smith’s brow lifts. “And who is this?”

Aria slides into frame like she belongs there. Hand resting on the back of my chair. “Hi. I’m Aria. Damian’s fiancée.”

The word hits like a bullet.

Smith blinks and looks from her to me. “Settling down, Kane? That’s new.”

My tongue is lead. One word from me and this implodes.

Aria saves me. Again. “Damian’s private. Hates the press. We agreed to keep it quiet until…” She glances at me, soft. Adoring. It’s a lie so good I almost believe it. “Until we were sure.”

Smith’s entire posture shifts. Approval.

“Well.” He laughs, actual warmth this time. “This changes my risk assessment considerably.”

My pulse is in my ears.

“Tell you what,” Smith continues. “I’m in New York next week. Let’s do lunch. The three of us. I’d like to meet the woman who tamed Damian Kane.”

Aria doesn’t hesitate. “We’d love to, Mr. Smith. Thank you.”

“Looking forward to it,” Smith says.

The screen goes black.

I tap End Meeting once.

Silence fills the study.

She’s still standing beside me. Her hand finally leaves the back of my chair. Like she’s releasing a trigger.

I turn. Slow.

My eyes lock on hers. No desk between us now.

“What the fuck was that, Miss Sinclair?”

Damian’s POV I sit at my desk, craving the taste of my black coffee. I’ve been sorting the same three contracts for the last twenty minutes and my eyes keep sliding to the door. Where is she? Aria was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago. She’s late. And I’m already set to scold her for it. Then the door opens. I don’t look up. “You’re late. Do you have any idea how long…” “It’s not Aria.” Noah’s voice cuts through me and my throat goes dry. I look up. He’s leaning against the doorframe in his black button-down. He smiles. That slow, playful Noah smile that does something to my insides. “What got you in a bad mood this morning?” he asks, pushing off the door and dropping into the chair across from me. I realize I’m scowling, so I force my face to smooth out. “I’m fine.” “You’re not fine.” He grins. “Grumpy.” “Well, I haven’t had my morning coffee yet,” I snap back. “So I’m allowed to

  • OWNED BY FOUR BILLIONAIRES    CHAPTER SIXTY TWO: TRICKS

Aria’s POV* The espresso machine hisses down the hall. I’m standing in the little kitchenette with a mug in my hand and a stupid smile I can’t wipe off my face. Damian had asked me to get black coffee for him before his meeting. Damian: “Get me a black coffee. No sugar. Before my 9am.” That’s the text he sent twenty minutes ago. It was so curt. But I keep on reading it like it’s a love letter. After the night I had last night, I’m not sure anything can tip my mood. I pour the coffee slowly, watching the dark swirl. My body still feels tender in places I didn’t know could be tender. My thighs ache and my throat is a little hoarse. And every time I think about Luca’s voice in my ear, heat crawls up my neck and I have to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud. God. I’m ridiculous. The guys were a mess this morning. Tired, draped over each other, arguing about who was hogging the blanket while I pretended I wasn’t the reason none of us slept. I add nothing t

  • OWNED BY FOUR BILLIONAIRES    CHAPTER SIXTY ONE: FOURSOME

Aria’s pov I swallow nervously, as they all watch me. You could hear a pin drop with how quiet the room is. Luca then lifts his head slowly. His eyes are dazed, like he just woke up from a dream he doesn't want to leave. He looks at Noah, then Damian, then Elias. "Are you guys going to keep watching," he says, voice rough, "or are you gonna help me take care of our girl?" Damian groans and drags a hand down his face. "Some of us were actually trying to sleep, Luca." Luca smirks. "You'd rather sleep than…" "Don't finish that sentence," Damian cuts in. "I love pussy as much as the next man. I just have human decency." I bite my bottom lip to stop the laugh from bubbling up. God, he's ridiculous. Luca then leans in and whispers so only I hear, but loud enough for them to catch. "At least they woke up to the sound of you coming," My face goes nuclear red instantly. “Luca” I hiss, smacking his chest. The tension in the room draws me back into the presen

  • OWNED BY FOUR BILLIONAIRES    CHAPTER SIXTY: GETTING THAT ‘O’

Aria’s pov I wake up to darkness. The house is so quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you aware of every breath. Luca's arm is heavy across my waist while Noah's foot is tangled with mine. I stretch slowly, trying to get out of his hold. And then my ass brushes against something hard. I freeze. Oh no. Did I just rub against Lucas's hard cock. God this was a stupid idea. I guess sleeping in a bed with four attractive men wasn't the smartest idea on my part. I try to shift but the fuse has already been lit. It took just one touch and now I'm all wet. I shouldn't. I really shouldn't, but I shift again. Just a little. His cock jerks against me and a quiet groan escapes me before I can stop it. God. I'm so pent up. I can't get any sleep and now this. I’m not going to survive this without a release. But how? Then an idea strikes me. I could, sneak out and grab my vibrator hidden in my drawer. I'll just need ten minutes and I'll be back. Yeah. That's a good

  • OWNED BY FOUR BILLIONAIRES    CHAPTER FIFTY NINE: FAMILY

ARIA’S POV No one moves. We all just remain still, staring at Elias, wondering how he’s processing all this. His eyes tighten, his knuckles turn white around the railing and his breathing goes shallow. And I know that look. It was the same one he had on his face yesterday, when I saw him bleeding. I don’t know what’s wrong with him yet. But I know it breaks him. “Elias,” Damian says carefully. Elias doesn’t answer. He just keeps staring at the front door. Like he’s expecting Richard to come back through it. Before I can think, I’m crossing the living room in three steps and going straight to the stairs. I sit on the step below him. Then I reach up and cup his face in both hands. All three of them go still. I can feel the shock in the room. Elias blinks, then his eyes focus on me. “Hey,” I whisper. “Are you okay?” He stares at me, then at my hands on his face. “I’m... I’m okay,” he says. “You don’t have to worry.” “Are you sure?” I ask. • OWNED BY FOUR BILLIONAIRES    CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT: UNEXPECTED VISITOR

ARIA’S POV* “We have a visitor,” I say. Three sets of eyes snap to me. “Who?” Luca asks. His voice is already tight. I shift my bag on my shoulder. The strap digs into me. I’ve been running on three hours of sleep and hospital coffee and I don’t have the energy for whatever this is. “Reception said his name is Mr. Kane,” I tell them. “Richard Kane.” The name hits the room like a gunshot. I can tell their father is a sore subject for them. Then Damian moves fast. He’s on his feet before I can blink, and the chair scrapes back so hard it almost tips. “Is he in the house?” he asks. “I… I don’t know,” I stammer. “He’s in the lobby. Security called up. They said he insisted on ‘family business’ and that he’s your father so…” “Did you let him in?” Luca cuts in. He’s already standing too. His fists are clenched at his sides. “No,” I say quickly. “I just came to tell you. I didn’t know if he was supposed to…” “Jesus Christ,” Damian mutters under his
