Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
The table went completely silent. Everyone slowly turned to look at Charlotte. They were now fully convinced she really had been reborn.

Charlotte lowered her head with a heavy sigh. "You can't change fate. Some things are meant to happen. All we can do is accept it."

After saying that, she looked straight at me. "Yelena, I think you, of all people, should understand that."

Caught off guard, I met her eyes. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Charlotte shot Levi a deliberately troubled look. "I know you've been waiting for Mr. Howard to promote you to lead attorney. But unfortunately, he thinks I'm the better fit. I get that you're upset. But some things are just destined."

Levi, who was still in a daze from everything that had happened, blinked like he had just woken up.

It was obvious he had never even thought about the promotion until Charlotte brought it up. But after those two dead-on predictions, he had complete trust in Charlotte.

He quickly said, "Yeah, you're absolutely right, Charlotte. I was going to offer you the position."

Then he turned to me. "You heard her, Yelena. Some things are meant to happen. You can't change fate."

I sneered inwardly and looked up at Charlotte.

"Ms. Lowell, I don't think you're just after the lead attorney position. What you really want are the cases I handle, which make up nearly half of the firm's entire caseload, am I right?"

Charlotte's expression shifted. She hadn't expected me to hit the nail on the head.

She immediately shot back in protest, "That's ridiculous. I'm a reborn woman with bigger things on my mind than your pile of case files. I'm just telling you what's coming."

"Is that so?"

Smiling, I locked eyes with her.

"Next, are you going to predict that I'll switch firms because you stole my position?"

Charlotte's face paled instantly at those words. She instinctively glanced over at Finley. Her panic at being exposed was plain as day.

She quickly composed herself and looked at me again. "Seems like you're blurting out your plan first because you're feeling guilty. Well, since you've already spilled the beans, I won't keep it a secret anymore.

"Mr. Howard, Yelena's been planning to jump ship to our biggest rival, Vera Legal. And that's not all. She's going to use our firm's resources to crush us. By that time, our whole firm will go bankrupt, and we'll all be out on the street!"

"Are you serious?"

Levi's gaze instantly turned cold. His eyes narrowed at me with a sharp edge of suspicion.

Charlotte shot a glance at Finley, who immediately caught on and stepped forward to help her "prove" her point.

"Yelena, so that offer letter in your inbox was from Vera Legal? And here I thought it was just spam and didn't give it a second glance. Looks like you were planning to betray our firm all along!"

This string of discoveries made me instantly realize what Charlotte had been after all along. She wanted everyone in the law firm to fully believe her whole "reborn" story. That way, she could take me down while snatching up every single case I had. That was also why she targeted Finley. She seduced him because he was the only one who could get access to all my files without raising suspicion.Once he stole them, I would lose the labor arbitration, have no way to defend myself, and naturally lose all my clients.Just then, Finley rushed in. His face was flushed with panic. However, he wasn't looking for me. His eyes locked onto Charlotte as he gritted his teeth."Charlotte, the police just called me. They say I'm involved in bribing a criminal suspect. What the hell is going on? Wasn't that 200 thousand dollars for your cousin's down payment? You said he was buying a house. That's why I lent you the money! H-How did it end up tied to a criminal investigation?"Charlotte clearly d

Levi hadn't even finished his call when every landline in the office started ringing all at once. The shrill tones echoed through the firm like death bells.Everyone scrambled to answer, and the messages were almost all the same."Mr. Howard, the assault case that was assigned to our firm last week just got terminated!""The client of that high-profile financial case from last month said he found a new legal team and dropped us!""Mr. Howard, our long-time client of three years, just called. They're not renewing the contract, and they're demanding 30 million dollars in damages!"A string of termination calls left Levi completely overwhelmed. His mind reeled in confusion."What the hell is going on? Why are all our clients pulling out at once? Is someone here caught up in a scandal or something?"He fumbled with his phone in a panic. Then he suddenly looked up at Charlotte, as if a thought had just hit him, and asked anxiously, "Charlotte, what the hell is going on? You said you

The next morning, I went to work as usual. I had just sat down at my desk when Charlotte walked over and threw a mop in front of me.She looked down at me with arrogant superiority as she barked, "Yelena, are you out of your mind? You're the janitor now. What are you doing sitting at a lawyer's desk? Don't you feel embarrassed?"I stayed calm. "According to my contract, I was hired as an attorney for a five-year term. No one has the right to change my position.""Oh? So you're refusing to follow Mr. Howard's orders now?"Charlotte seemed pleased with my reaction. With her arms crossed, she leaned against the nearby desk and watched me with a hint of mockery in her eyes."Go ahead and file for labor arbitration then. But if I recall, all of the firm's contracts from five years ago were paper copies. Do you even have yours now? If you can't produce it, you're going to lose in arbitration."None of her words surprised me. In my past life, I lost the labor arbitration precisely becau

As soon as Levi made the final call, Charlotte's face lit up with smug satisfaction. She turned to me, and her eyes were practically glowing with triumph."Yelena, I'm very particular about office cleanliness. So you'd better take your new job seriously. Oh, and don't forget the toilets. You better scrub them spotless."After saying that, she burst into laughter with the others. They pointed at me, snickering like they were watching some kind of circus act.I watched the scene unfold exactly as it had in my past life without any expression. This time, I didn't make a scene about going to labor arbitration. I simply nodded and told them not to regret it. Then, I walked out of the barbecue restaurant amid the sound of everyone's mocking laughter. After I left, Charlotte and Finley grew even more smug. Unable to wait for the dinner to end, the two of them slipped away to the restroom to celebrate, wrapped in each other's arms."Finley, now the lead attorney position and you are both

The figure on the screen was Finley! There he was, sneaking up to my desk. He glanced around, made sure no one was watching, and then started tapping away on my laptop. Seconds later, he slipped away just as fast. The timestamp matched the exact time the résumé was sent from my email to Vera Legal.Finley clearly never imagined I had surveillance running. When he saw his face blown up on the screen, his whole face turned beet red."Yelena, what the hell is this? I only borrowed your laptop to look up some files. You actually recorded me? That's a total invasion of privacy!"I stared at his desperate attempt to deflect, then gave a cold smile."I'm really curious. What kind of files are so important that you had to sneak back into the office at 1:00 am like a thief and insist on using my laptop to access them?""I—""And that résumé that was sent to Vera Legal under my name was sent during the exact same time you were 'borrowing' my laptop. Bit too much of a coincidence, don't y

Finley was my boyfriend. That fact alone made Charlotte's accusation sound a whole lot more believable.Everyone at the table immediately turned to look at me with eyes full of doubt. They started whispering among themselves."Damn, Charlotte's insane. She actually predicted Yelena would betray us? She might've just saved our lives. If the firm went under, we'd all be out of a job.""I've got chills. Who would've thought Yelena was the sort to cook up schemes? She actually hid something like this from her boyfriend?""Exactly. If Charlotte hadn't been reborn, we'd all be collateral damage right now."One comment after another. Just like in my past life, no one gave me the chance to explain a thing.Levi's face turned thunderous. He slammed a hand down on the table and stood up."Yelena Swanson, I mentored you for years, gave you every chance, and this is how you repay me?"Charlotte watched everyone's reaction with satisfaction, then walked over to Levi and said in her most inn
