CHAPTER 11.

SALVATORE POV

The prisoner escaped. Three words. That was all it took for the entire fortress to feel poisoned.

I slid the magazine into the gun with a sharp click while Lena stood near the windows watching me carefully. Rain hammered against the glass behind her, silver lightning flashing across the dark ocean below the cliffs.

She looked afraid. But not of the gun, Of me.

That should've satisfied something inside me. Instead, it irritated me.

"Stay in your room tonight," I ordered

  • Obsessed with my Beautiful Enemy    The Pull

CHAPTER 34 LENA POVSalvatore's hand closed around my wrist the second the rival disappeared down the gangway. He pulled me away from the main deck without a word, down a narrow hallway inside the yacht. The door shut behind us, cutting off the music and voices from the party. He turned me to face him, his eyes scanning my face and arms carefully. "Did he touch you? Say anything else before I got there?""I'm fine," I said, pulling my wrist free. My heart still raced from the adrenaline. "You didn't have to drag me off like that. Everyone saw.""I don't care what they saw." He stepped closer, his voice low. "He insulted you in front of the whole room. Called you a stolen warm body. I need to know if you're okay."I backed up until my shoulders hit the wall hard. "Okay? You just had a man removed permanently because he ran his mouth. That's not protection, Salvatore. That's you losing control in front of everyone who matters."His jaw tightened visibly. "He provoked me on purpose. Th

  • Obsessed with my Beautiful Enemy    The Line in the sand

CHAPTER 33SALVATORE POVThe yacht deck hummed with music and low conversation throughout the night.Lena stayed pressed to my side after the latest round of whispers from the wives. I kept my hand on her hip, feeling the tension in her body rise and fall with each comment they made.A man from the Rossi rival family pushed through the crowd without warning. Tall. Loud. Already drunk on champagne by the look of him. He stopped right in front of us, his eyes fixed on Lena like she was a prize he could claim."Well, well. The Romano prize," he said with a smirk that made my jaw tighten. "Dante Caruso's still offering cash for her head on a plate. You really think parading her around makes her yours, Salvatore? She's just a warm body you stole. Everyone here knows you'll tire of her soon."The entire deck went quiet around us. Lena stiffened beside me.I kept my voice calm. Ice calm. The kind of calm that meant danger. "Say that again."He laughed like he'd won something. "You heard me.

  • Obsessed with my Beautiful Enemy    The Target On My Back

CHAPTER 32 LENA POVThe car ride back from the gathering stayed quiet throughout the drive.Salvatore kept my hand in his the whole way without letting go. His thumb brushed my knuckles now and then, like he needed the contact to anchor himself. Like touching me was the only thing keeping him grounded."You really meant it," I said finally, breaking the silence. "Bringing me there. Letting them all see.""I meant it." His voice stayed low and serious. "No more hiding you."I pulled my hand back and touched the ring in my pocket, feeling its weight. "They all think I'm your weakness now. I felt it in every stare they gave us."Salvatore glanced at me briefly. "Let them think what they want. You're not a weakness. You're the reason I'm still breathing straight."I didn't answer him. The words settled warm in my chest, but they scared me too. I hated how much I wanted to believe him. I wanted to trust that this was real and permanent and safe. The next weekend brought another gathering

CHAPTER 31 SALVATORE POVI made a call the next morning without hesitation."You're coming with me to the gathering tonight."Lena paused in the hallway outside my office, arms crossed defensively. "A mafia meeting? After last night's intruders? You really think that's smart?""It's necessary," I said, moving toward her. "Caruso's getting louder every day. I want them to see you with me. Stay close. No wandering off."She studied me carefully, reading the intention behind the words. "This is you showing ownership again. Or are you actually letting me in like you said last night?""Both." I touched her elbow lightly. "The ring's in your pocket for a reason. You wanted truth. This is part of it."Lena exhaled slowly. "Fine. But if it goes bad, remember I warned you."The room at the mainland club was full of suits and low conversations.I walked in with Lena right at my side, my hand firm on her lower back. Every single head turned toward us. Whispers started immediately, spreading thro

  • Obsessed with my Beautiful Enemy    The Ring and The Truth

CHAPTER 30LENA POVSalvatore burst into the garden like a storm breaking over water.Gun drawn. Eyes wild with something close to fear. Matteo and I stood near the rose bushes with Brutus at our feet. The dog barked once but stayed close to us without moving away.Salvatore reached us in seconds that felt stretched and impossible. He pulled me against his chest with one arm while his other hand checked Matteo for injuries. His grip was desperate."Lena!" His voice came urgent. "Are you hurt? Either of you?""We're fine," I said quickly, my hands gripping his shirt. "We heard the shots and stayed low. What happened?"Salvatore scanned the trees surrounding the garden, then holstered his gun carefully. His breath came hard and fast. "Intruders. My men handled it. They didn't get close. You're safe."Matteo looked up at him with fear still lingering in his eyes. "Was it because of me? Because of what I heard?"Salvatore knelt down beside the boy, resting a hand on his shoulder firmly. "

  • Obsessed with my Beautiful Enemy    The Crack In Armor

CHAPTER 29SALVATORE POV The meeting dragged on forever, and my patience was hanging by a thread.I sat at the head of the long table in the war room, fingers steepled under my chin while Diego laid out the latest numbers on shipments from the eastern ports. Voices rose and fell all around me. Arguments about routes. Bribes. Rival families sniffing too close to our territory. Normally, this was where I thrived. Control. Precision. Every piece on the board was exactly where I placed it.Today, nothing stuck. Everything just slipped away.My mind kept slipping away to somewhere else. To her. To Lena. The way her voice sounded last night when she told me about Matteo. The way her eyes had searched mine, looking for answers I didn't have. The faint tremble in her hand when she touched my arm without thinking, like she trusted me enough to reach out even while fearing what I was capable of.I hated that feeling. It annoyed me how one talk with her could ruin my focus for the rest of the
