Chapter 16 Your Brother's Friend

Joey woke up in a hospital. The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was a handsome face.

Startled, she snapped her eyes shut and opened them again slowly. The face was still there, now with a teasing smile. The only thing that marred the perfect features were the dark circles underneath the eyes.

"You're finally awake." Kent breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Joey's eyes brighten with consciousness. He shrunk back to the side of the bed and slumped down listlessly.

Joey sat up slowly and looked around, but she found no one else in the room besides Kent. She was a little touched.

"Have you been here the whole time?"

She didn't know how long she'd been out. Kent's time was counted by the second. He'd probably lost a lot of money in the time he'd spent waiting for her to wake up.
