Chapter 4 Mistook Her for Someone Else

The price seemed exorbitant compared to that of international top designers' wedding dresses.

The wedding dress had reportedly been in the making for over three years, and it remained breathtaking.

With his hands casually in his pockets, Zachary glanced at Joey and said, "If you like it, let's go with this one." He handed his card to the store attendant and said, "Just swipe it, no need for a PIN."

Julia hugged Zachary excitedly and exclaimed, "I love you, Zachary!"

Joey shifted her gaze, feeling an indescribable sense of unease. 7.18 million dollars was a mere drop in the bucket for Zachary. He'd give Julia anything she desired without hesitation.

Joey nodded and signaled her assistant to process the payment. The assistant hesitated, her gaze fixed on Joey. How could they sell this dress? Joey had designed it for herself.

There was a pang of reluctance, but they would be divorced, and there would be no wedding. What was the point of keeping it?

However, Joey chuckled and said, "Didn't Ms. Sanders say that refusing business is foolish? Besides, it's a good sale, especially considering whose money it is."

The assistant reluctantly accepted the card and proceeded with the transaction. Joey fetched a ladder to take the wedding dress from the display case.

During the fitting session, Julia pointed at Joey and said, "Can you help me try it on? There's no need to trouble anyone else."

Joey instinctively glanced at Zachary. Letting the soon-to-be-wife try on a wedding dress with the wife who wasn't quite divorced yet? That was absurd.

Before Joey could finish her thought, he said fondly, "Sorry to trouble you."

Zachary stood in the spotlight of the track lighting, half of his body bathed in bright light, the other half in shadow. He appeared elegant and aloof, creating a natural aura that deterred anyone from getting too close.

Joey mentally scoffed and smiled meaningfully. "What's the trouble? It's just part of the job."

Joey interpreted his expression as a warning. Holding the wedding dress, she gestured toward it and said with a professional smile, "Don't worry, I'll take excellent care of your wife."

The fitting room at Emmen Fashion was spacious enough for two. Joey calmly helped Julia change into the wedding dress. The dress was tailored to Joey's measurements, and despite Julia's good figure, it was a bit of a struggle to put it on, especially around the waist.

No matter how hard she tried to zip it up, it wouldn't budge. After several attempts, both of them were beginning to sweat. Feeling a little helpless, Joey stepped out and fetched a pair of scissors.

She half-knelt behind Julia, removed a few stitches from the wedding dress's waistline, and managed to zip it up. As she adjusted the skirt, she tried to ease the awkward atmosphere and said, "We can adjust the size later."

Julia looked at herself in the mirror. The wedding dress looked even more stunning on her than it did in the display case.

She felt regal in it and gazed down at Joey, who was busy with the gown. "How long have you known my husband?"

Joey paused. She stood up and frowned. "He said he mistook me for someone else."

Looking at Joey in the mirror, Julia relaxed. "Well, he's busy every day. He doesn't have time to get to know shop employees like you."

Joey simply smiled. Julia continued, "Working here must be tough, right? You work on a commission basis?"

Joey replied casually while adjusting Julia's belt, "It's okay. I don't take commissions."

Julia perked up. "Oh, so you're the store manager?"

Joey thought for a moment and said, "You could say that. I manage things here."

Julia reached into her purse and pulled out a business card. She said enticingly, "My husband really likes Chloe's designs. He plans to get them regularly for me.

"But I want Chloe's customized collection. If possible, could you help me get in touch? My husband is the CEO of the Gray Group, and money is not a problem. I can even bring you more business."

Joey found it ironic. Zachary liked her designs? Did he know that the designer his future wife wanted was the woman he'd been married to for three years?

She didn't take the business card offered by Julia and said coldly, "Your husband is so capable, so he should be able to contact Chloe himself. Why not ask him instead of me?"

Julia hadn't anticipated this rejection, and her frustration boiled up. She snatched back the business card and said sarcastically, "You're right. I forgot that people at your level probably can't connect with top designers like Chloe."

She pushed Joey aside and exited the dressing room. Seeing Zachary, she quickly adopted a vulnerable expression and said, "Zac, can you find someone else to help me? Her attitude is awful."
