Aria’s POV

I made it three steps down the corridor before my legs gave out.

My back hit the wall, and I slid down slowly until I was sitting on the cold marble floor, knees drawn up, hands pressed to my face.

The elders had saved me.

I hadn’t been completely sure what result involving them would yield. The plan had been a desperate gamble, a last-ditch effort based on fragments of pack law I’d pieced together from half-remembered conversations and the books I’d found in my old room.
