/-Gianna-/

I felt sick.

Throwing up constantly in the bathroom, not to mention the splitting headache that followed.

I pulled the duvet over me, clinging to it tightly for warmth as Max was no longer in bed. I needed warmth.

Desperately.

My eyes burned and I could feel the fever creeping in. Where the hell was Maxmillian?

Almost as soon as the thought left my head, he returned to the room.

He was with a tray in his hand . He went to get breakfast for us.

“Babe, are you okay?” He asked, joining me on the bed. I scooted closer to him, craving body warmth but afraid to expose my body to the cold at the same time. “You're cold?”

I nodded.

He picked up the AC remote and turned it off.

“Why did you tell me that earlier, baby?” He muttered, wrapping his arms around me. As if he could sense it, his hands went to my neck and instantly widened. “You're running temperature.”

Of course I knew that. I could barely open my eyes because of it.

“You're going to fall sick, baby,” he said,. helping me

Gianna-/The doctor walked into the room just as Maxmillian was leaving to grab lunch.“How is she now?” Dr Morales asked.“Still throwing up but arguably better than last time,” Max responded. “I'm just going to get her lunch.”“Oh, that's good to hear. Go ahead, while I examine her,” she said and Maxmillian left the room. The woman walked to me with a very bright smile. Too bright for someone visiting a patient.Just before I could assume the worst, she broke the news.“Congratulations, Mrs North. You are four weeks pregnant!” She told me and I sprang off the bed in shock,. momentarily forgetting the fever.“What?!” I gasped. “You don't mean that, right? It's a joke…”Her expression faltered a little. I guess she was expecting me to be happy but how could I be? I was barely surviving with Maxmillian and now, I was about to dd a baby to the mix? I would be insane to be happy in this situation.“Unfortunately, it is not a joke, Ma'am. You are indeed pregnant and I believe it is a good

Gianna-/Run away. That was what my mind was singing for the last few days.I was going to, no doubt, but how to do it was the issue. I didn't have the finances, first of all.Yes, Maxmillian paid me as his PA, but it wasn't enough for me to just vanish. I would need food and shelter when I leave the country. I was going to be jobless for the first couple of months, I needed money to last me that long.Whicb was why I came up with this ridiculous plan, just in case I found my chance. Max always gave me the black card whenever I went shopping so hopefully, if I could just go shopping without him, I could withdraw as much money as I needed and vanish.A part argued it was theft but the other part reminded me that I was married to this man. Spending your husband's money is not stealing.“Are you going out?” I asked quietly. I was still in bed, tugged under my blanket, while Max was dressed in a shirt and tailored trousers.“Yes, but I'll be back shortly. Three hours tops,” he responded.

Maxmillian-/She was gone.I returned to the suite but she was nowhere in sight. I check literally everywhere! From the room to the bathroom to the pool area and even the balcony but she wasn't there. The main reason I rushed back here was because of the alert I received on my phone. I know I gave her my card to buy whatever she wanted but I thought she would just order food since she was still weak. But seeing that amount, I was more than certain it couldn't be her. Gianna wasn't that reckless and extravagant. Not that I cared about the money she spent, I just knew she wouldn't allow herself to. She was too money conscious.I began searching the hotel itself, going floor by floor but she was nowhere in sight. The fact that she was sick made me even more worried.Where could she gone to in her condition? The thought of her passing out somewhere made me even more afraid.I tried calling her but for some reason, I couldn't reach her so I sent her a text, hoping she wasn't out cold somew

/-Piper-/Eric North was such a daddy. Tall, sexy and handsome. I could barely keep my eyes off him.We were having dinner at one of the most expensive restaurants in town and Dante… well Dante didn't seem too thrilled to meet his uncle. In fact, he was grumbling all the way here. He spoke about how Eric had singlehandedly murdered his brother's just so he could become Chairman of the North Group. Now, these were all allegations. No one has proof so he couldn't be charged. While Eric was bitter about that, I found it hot.“It's good to have you both join me,” Eric smile, eyes flickering to me. “And you are even more beautiful than the last time we met, Piper.”My cheeks grew red.“I see your husband is taking good care of you,” Eric smiled, but there was something behind that smile. Something that sent my body spiralling with heat.“Damn right I have!” Dante cut in. “Why have you asked to see us? What do you want?”“Always so forward, Dante,” he chuckled. “Is it wrong to have dinner w

Gianna-/Germany.It felt like I was stepping into the world for the first time. I checked out my bags and headed outside the airport.I honestly wasn't sure where I would go from here or how to start over. My mind shifted to Max and guilt clawed my chest. Was this the right choice? Running away like this?I didn't have time to think about that. It was no use anyways. If I stayed with him, Dante would either kill him or his enemies would kill me and my baby.It was a hard choice to make. I didn't even have the audacity to ask him to leave the Mafia for me. I knew he wouldn't.First step, I needed to check into a hotel and get settled in, then start planing my life.I hailed a cab and got it. The hotel was nothing like I saw back in China. It was beautiful and exquisite in its own way but I couldn't stay here.It was way too expensive. I couldn't afford to throw money around like that.“Can you take me somewhere cheaper? Like very very cheap for an average person?” I asked the driver.

/-Gianna-/Life was so simple and ordinary. I resumed work and honestly speaking, I have never been so free and happy.Even though it felt like a part of me was missing, it was relatively easy to go about my day.Glamor was a pleasant place to work. They didn't have a flood of customers as other big hotels, but they still had enough customers to keep the place running efficiently.“Are you done for the day?” I heard a voice behind me suddenly. I jumped, startled by the sudden question. “I'm sorry, didn't mean to scare you.”I turned, surprised to see Manager Johann. I only met him once two days ago when Mrs Heidi introduced me to him. I didn't think much of him then, only that he was a nice man who took me in even though I barely had any qualifications.“Good day Manager Johann,” I greeted immediately. “It's a pleasure to see you here, Sir.”I kept my smile as bright as possible. He chuckled.“There's no need to address me with such formalities, Gianna. You can just call me Johann,” h

The food was cheap but it was super good. “Hey, so tell me, what was your life like before Germany?” She asked. “I’m sorry if I'm prying. It's just that Mrs Heidi says you are a foreigner and you do sound like one.”There was no harm telling her, as long as I didn't mention Max or the mafia or that I was running away from my husband.“It's fine,” I smiled. “Italy is wonderful place afterall. I'd be crazy not to want to talk about it.” She looked even more excited than I was. “Italy, huh? You don't sound Italian but I'm all for the tea,” she said and I chuckled. “Really? What do I sound like then?” I asked her. “You don't have an accent so I'll say American,” she said and I shook my head with a smile. “You are very wrong, Ariel. I sound every inch Italian,” I let my accent accentuate the words and she gasped. I chuckled. “I just used to watch a lot of English and American movies growing up so I became ver

/-Maxmillian-/It's been almost two weeks. Ten fucking days and I still couldn't find her. I had my men searching everywhere. The web, the country, my rivals, everything but there was no sign of Gianna. I even had to return to Italy but there was nothing. She wasn't home and it broke me. The house felt cold and empty without her. I didn't realize how much I needed her until now. As I poured the last whiskey into the glass, I wondered what she was doing. Did she miss me as much as I was missing her right now? Did she even understand that I was empty without her. There was a knock on the door. I knew it was one of my men but I wasn't really in the mood to attend to anybody. I just wanted to be alone. To think about everything and probably figure out what I missed. “Boss?” The guard called and I couldn't ignore him anymore. “Fine! Come in,” I sighed and the door opened and he stepped in. “Someone is here to see you, sir,” he informed me. “Who is it?” I asked.“Kesley,” he answere

Eric-/Everyone was just getting on my damn nerves. Not only were they fucking cowards who couldn't stand up to Maxmillian, they were assholes who couldn't even speak for themselves. They were hiding behind the results that the old Matriach was poisoned. So what if she fucking was? They didn't even like her. They wanted her gone as much as I did so why the fuck were they pretending like I didn't save them a whole lot of trouble?“This is a serious accusation, Eric. The proof is here. The doctor reports, everything! The Matriach was poisoned and the drugs were traced back to your company. What do you have to say for yourself?”Staring at this jury of hypocrites made me sick. Who the fuck did they think they were?I scoffed, leaning back in my chair like their judgment meant jack shit to me. “What do I have to say?” I repeated, my voice cold and sharp as a blade. “I have to say you’re all full of it.”A murmur rippled through the room. A few had the decency to look guilty. The rest? The

Melody-/Maxmillian rushed Gianna to the hospital with me in the car. It was a struggle to keep my smirk hidden. I wasn't bothered about getting caught because the poison I used was completely undetectable. No matter what kind of tests the doctors ran, they would never know what caused it.Which meant they would only say it was stress and all that nonsense they usually said to assure their patients.Maxmillian and I were waiting in the lobby and I could see the way he paraded the place. I felt a little bad seeing him so worried but there was nothing I could do about it.I tried to tell him countless times that Gianna was not good for him. My mother died trying to prove that to him and I wasn't going to let it go to waste like that.Even if it was the last thing I did, I would make sure that Maxmillian doesn't end up with that golddigger.“You need to calm down, Max. You are going to develop high blood pressure if you continue like this,” I said bit my words seemed to fall on deaf ea

Melody-/She must be a big fool to think that I actually wanted peace. It was all my idea to play nice inorder for my plan to work. And it was quite simple.Poison Gianna. Make her lose that stupid baby she was using to tie Max down.As I assisted with the basic things for cooking, I searched desperately for an opportunity for her to leave but she wouldn't leave. She was right there till she finished cooking.Even Max joined us.I knew then that I had only one shot left. Serve the food. Which was why I insisted on serving the food. Just so that she could leave.I returned to the kitchen and opened the top cabinet slowly, careful not to make noise. Hidden behind the neatly stacked bowls was a small vial I had tucked away days ago. It wasn’t lethal, no, that would be too obvious. Just strong enough to cause cramping, pain, and hopefully a miscarriage.I poured a few drops into one of the plates while my hand trembled slightly, not from guilt, but from adrenaline. Timing was everything.

/-Gianna-/I went to the kitchen to make something for him to eat. I was certain that he hadn't eaten all day.As I prepped the ingredients to cook, Melody walked into the kitchen. I groaned inwardly. I really wasn't in the mood to deal with her tantrums.“Need help?” She asked suddenly, surprising me. I blinked. I didn't expect her to ask that question out of the blue.“Why?” I blurted.“Do you need help or not?” She frowned. I nodded because I did help. I could manage on my own but an extra hand would make things faster for me.“Good! Then I'll help you!” She said.I was too stunned to speak. There has to be something wrong. Melody didn't like me for any reason. I thought with her mother's death, she might have changed especially since Maxmillian was housing her now but she proved to be nothing but a snake.Acting harmless in his face and turned to a jar of spikes when he was gone. So this… this was indeed shocking.“What do you need help with?” She asked but I couldn't even answer

/-Gianna-/Maxmillan came home with a grim expression lacing on his face and just that was already a turn off. As he walked in, my eyes hovered around his legs as they moved and then to his waist, they stayed firm and calling. I groaned in frustration as these days, I barely get any time with him—he was always chasing ghosts or more deadlier, mostly in the form of his brother.I bit my lips as I pressed my gaze just to his face when our eyes locked unto each other and in that spiraling moment, the world seemed to still and wait for our cue.I didn’t break contact, I held up as the tension reduced and there, I saw something in his body shift. His body was no longer rigid or shoulder tensed like he had come in earlier, they dropped and he softened as every peak of his eyes seemed to lit up like some crying toddler whose mom just gave in to his demand. And the way he stared — it was heaven as it suddenly made the room look magical. His gaze fell and while I tried to meet it, it felt like

/-Maxmillian-/My phone rang and I was surprised to see Doctor Ellie calling. She was the one in charge of the autopsy on the Matriarch’s corpse. Her call was the very thing I had been waiting for, for days now. This could change everything. If I could prove that the Matriarch didn’t die from a terminal disease, then the Council would be forced to investigate her death. And God help Eric if he was responsible for it. He would see a different side of hell, one he never knew existed.I swiped the answer button.“Good day, Doctor Ellie. Are the autopsy results out?” I asked. Melody, who was seated beside me, turned to look, her eyes narrowing with concern.“Yes, the results are out,” Ellie said, her voice serious but low. “Could you stop by the hospital when you’re chanced? There’s something important I’d like you to see… in person.”I didn’t hesitate. “I’ll be there in ten.”Whatever Declan needed could wait. This was what it had all come down to.“Alright. I’ll be waiting,” she said an

/-Eric-/ “What?!” I gasped. “How could he have been stupid enough to get caught? Did he give names?” I was already on my feet, pacing the floor of my penthouse office. Jasper stood a few feet away, stiff as a soldier, eyes fixed on the floor. He didn’t answer fast enough, and I turned on him. “Well?” He cleared his throat. “No names, sir. But the Zurich server was accessed, just before the wipe was completed. Someone pulled the backup files remotely.” I cursed under my breath and shoved a stack of papers off the desk. They scattered like snow. So that was how they were doing it. Dante and that woman… Piper. I should’ve known she wasn’t just going to disappear quietly. She looked like the kind to break, not bite. I had misjudged her, and now she was back with Dante, sharpening his sword. “They know,” I muttered, more to myself than anyone. “They have enough to trace the money. The foundations. The shell companies. That’s why they’re being so damn quiet.” Jasper flinche

/-Piper-/I returned home to find Dante waiting for me. “What happened?” I asked worriedly, hurrying to him. “I talked to Gianna and…”“This isn't about Gianna, Piper! It's about my business! My company. My manager called me this morning, he found the mole. You won't believe who has been behind the downfall of my company!” He gritted. “Maxmillan?” I guessed. “No, if it were Maxmillan, it would have been better but he doesn't have the time to go around scheming how to bring people down. It's fucking Eric North!” I was dumbfounded. Of course the man I was fucking cheating on my husband with was the orchestrator of his downfall. How the hell did I not see that coming? My jaw was literally on the floor. “I am going to have a fucking long talk with that bastard! He will pay for everything he has done to me! I was going him deceiving you slide for a while but it's obvious that he wants war!” I stepped in front of him, blocking his path. “Dante, wait. You can’t just go after him like

/-Piper-/“So what do we do now?” I asked him. “Do about what?” Dante asked me. “If this is about Eric then forget…”“I am not talking about Eric,” i spat his name in disgust. The bastard's name simply irritated me now. Thinking of it now, I couldn't believe I stooped so low to allow myself to be fooled by him. “I'm talking about Maxmillan. Remember the case with Gianna's parents? He told us to tune ourselves in and we both know we can't do that,” I said and Dante let out a sigh. “Right! I almost forgot about that. A lot of things are just happening at once. It's hard to focus,” he said and I felt a little sad I was one of the reasons for that. “You were right. I should have gotten rid of her when I had the chance now she is back to bite us in the ass.” “I think we should try begging her,” I said and he frowned instantly. “Beg who?” He huffed. “That thing? She should be the one begging me!” “Now is not the time for arrogance, Dante. Don't forget she is Maxmillian's wife. He wil
