Chapter 3

Author: Warren Young
The servants rushed over in a panic to help her, yet Quincy kept crying and insisting she was in too much pain to stand.

“How did you even manage to fall like that? It’s not as if we aren’t feeding you,” Mrs. Janson said coldly, giving her a sharp look.

Quincy was the daughter of Mr. Janson’s beloved first love. After the woman passed away, he insisted on adopting her.

Ever since she came to the Janson family, she and Mrs. Janson had never gotten along.

“Brian, it hurts so much.”

Quincy looked up at Brian with tearful eyes, the kind that made almost anyone feel protective.

[Boohoo, my poor little girl. Someone protect her. There is no way the big dumb male lead won’t soften up.]

[Please. Look at what the male lead is actually doing.]

Brian removed his hand from my leg, frowned, and called emergency services.

“Brookshire Manor, yes. Possible fractured injury from a fall.”

After hanging up, he said to Quincy, “The ambulance will be here in thirty minutes. Do not move. You could make it worse.”

Quincy froze on the spot.

The comments popped up.

[He makes a good point, but still…]

Half an hour later, Quincy was screaming as she was lifted onto the stretcher.

I watched in deep thought.

This scene never happened in the original story.

The fact that it was happening now meant something important:

The plot can be changed.

That night, after taking a shower, I lay on the bed studying stocks.

The comments was still chirping in front of me from time to time, but they were not completely useless.

Sometimes they even spilled information.

When I hovered my finger over a real estate stock on the purchase screen, the comments burst into laughter.

[Hahaha, idiot. Jefferson Group is about to go bankrupt. Buy it, buy it. I want to vent my frustration on the villainess.]

[Lmao. She has no idea Pansell New Energy is about to skyrocket, and she is planning to sell it.]

[How do you people remember stock details this clearly? I skipped those chapters when I read the novel. What even makes money?]

[Because the original author wrote the stock stuff in crazy detail. At this point in the story, you should buy…]

I stayed quiet on the surface, but my hands were moving nonstop.

Within a few minutes, I had scooped up every potential stock they mentioned.

[Wait a second…]

The comments froze, and they stopped laughing at me.

[She can… see us!!!]

My smile did not fade.

It simply shifted into a full cackle.

I was rolling around on the big bed laughing when my gaze collided with Brian’s.

He had walked in wearing only a loosely tied bathrobe.

“What makes you so happy?”

His eyes fell on me, growing darker.

That was when I noticed the silk strap of my nightgown had slipped down my arm at some point, exposing a bare shoulder.

A shoulder covered with vivid marks from last night.

My face went up in flames. I yanked the strap back up.

“It’s nothing.”

I scooted away from him.

Brian lay down beside me. The clean scent of men’s shower gel drifted through the air.

He reached out with one long arm and pulled me into his chest.

“You really seem afraid of me.”

The familiar posture made my heart jump. My legs softened on instinct.

“No, no. Really not. I’m just tired.”

I gave him a pleading look. “I want to sleep.”

Before we got married, Brian was known for being cold and impossibly disciplined.

Who could have guessed that a simple contract marriage would feel like releasing a curse seal?

His arm tightened around my waist. That elegant, cool hand slid higher again.

“The angle is perfect.”

His voice brushed my ear in a low murmur.

A gentle kiss touched the back of my neck.

“Relax, baby.”

“I won’t go overboard.”

She actually thought she was being kind when she wrapped an arm around me and said, “Brian, you’re my favorite student in this class. I know things at home aren’t easy for you. If you ever want to call me Mom, I wouldn’t mind.”I laughed.I couldn’t help it.I was laughing at how stupid she was.Plenty of people tried to curry favor with me growing up, but this was the first idiot who didn’t know where the line was.I complained about her to my childhood friend, Henry. He nearly collapsed on my shoulder, laughing so hard he couldn’t breathe.“Brian, you have no idea, do you? That Rachel? Your dad recommended her. He sent my dad a whole crate of vintage wine. She’s trying to be your new mommy!”Henry’s father was the principal of that elite elementary school. One time, when we went to the principal’s office to build Legos, I found that woman’s résumé.I memorized her information, reported her to the education bureau, and she was fired in no time. She left the city with her tail

Brian pulled the file from my hands and skimmed through it, then began analyzing it with complete seriousness.“The hotels three kilometers from the requisitioned land are all small operations. It might be better to wait until the airport is actually built, see what their traffic looks like, then raise capital for our own hotel. There’s no rush. The property rights are ours anyway.”From this angle, I had to look up at him.Straight nose, sharp jaw, thin lips. The light from the window framed him in that cool, restrained way he always carried himself.I stared a little too intently.“I think that makes perfect sense, but…”He played along, pretending to be aloof.“But what?”“But can you take off your watch? It’s digging into me.”“…”He turned his head away and looked out the window. The tips of his ears were bright red.The comments, which hadn’t appeared in a while, immediately burst alive.[Ohhh, a watch? Really? I don’t believe it for a second.][I’m alive! The comment

Out of basic decency, I still told Brian to stop the car.I leaned out and asked, “Do you need a ride home?”Quincy froze. When she saw it was us, she suddenly stopped resisting. She didn’t answer my question.Instead, she gave Brian one long look… then wrapped her arms around the punk’s neck and kissed him hard. The idiot was thrilled, immediately thinking she had agreed to go with him.The two of them made out like no one else existed. When they finally came up for air, Quincy slumped weakly against him, breathing heavily. Her sultry gaze, however, was pointed straight at Brian out of spite.“Brian, I’m going with HIM tonight.”Brian didn’t say a word.Quincy assumed he was jealous, and her expression grew smug.“Well, you’re the one who chose to ignore me. What right do you have to—”Her voice was cut short.“Move the car,” Brian said coolly.“Don’t block the road.”---The whole drive home, I couldn’t stop thinking. The relationship between Brian and Quincy was clea

I noticed his cheeks were flushed and his voice sounded strangely thick.“Are you catching a cold?”It always seemed like Brian didn’t adjust well to new environments.Ever since we moved here, he had been listless and overly clingy.“Idiot. It’s not a cold. It’s a fever.”He scooped me up and tossed me into the blankets, wrapped me tight, then pressed a warm kiss to my lips.I quickly covered my mouth. “What if I catch it from you?”This was the worst possible timing.I had work to do, money to make, and a construction site inspection scheduled for tomorrow.“Fever isn’t contagious,” he murmured as he kissed behind my ear. “But the heat might be.”He lowered his voice and started whispering shameless things against my skin.I fumbled with the sheets, flustered. “Shouldn’t you take medicine or something?”Ever since the audience gained audio, the comments had become unbearably loud and bold.[Oh my god, he’s not feverish. He’s just horny.][What do you do when your husband

The man flicked the water from his palms and turned to look at her.Quincy let out a shocked cry. “She hit you?”Brian said nothing.“A woman that vicious… why would you ever marry her?”“Brian, can you please divorce her?”Tears streamed down her small, delicate face as she pleaded. The irritation in Brian’s eyes finally broke through completely.“Did you hit your head that hard when you fell?”On Sunday afternoon, Quincy came to see me.I pushed a cup of coffee toward her. “What do you want?”She sat across from me in a pure-white dress, swinging her feet and staring around my seventeenth-floor office with blatant ridicule.“So this is the position you climbed into because of Brian?“You gold diggers really can’t wait, can you?”I blinked, genuinely surprised.I could not believe these words came out of the supposed soft and sweet heroine’s mouth. The audience freaked out too:[Wait… Her persona fell apart?][Isn’t Quincy supposed to be gentle and kind? Why does she

“Leave a few outfits in the walk-in closet. It’s not like they are never coming back,” Mrs. Janson was still outside the bathroom. My fingers were pressed against the cold tile, tightening and loosening again. And Mrs. Janson kept calling for me.“Hannah, why are you still in the shower? You will catch a cold if you stay in too long. Come out now. I’ll have Marianne make you ginger tea.”“Alright… Mom, I’ll be right out.”I tried to keep my voice steady.Only when her footsteps faded did I let out a breath. My eyes burned. I bit down hard on Brian’s shoulder.“Brian Janson, you’re an animal.”“If you say so.”He kissed away my tears, yet his movements showed no mercy at all.I was so angry I slapped him. “Get out. I want to leave.”When no one was around, I limped out of the bathroom and shut the door behind me.I told Brian to wait at least thirty minutes before coming out.The quiet was broken by the comments exploding across my vision.[HEHHEHEHE.
