53. Memory Gap

“The weather is good today, shall we go out somewhere?” Vi suggested, sounding far too enthusiastic and pretending to be more than that. I let the cold ice of the popsicle melt into my mouth, the orangish taste leaving a sugary and tangy aftertaste, while the warm summer breeze left drops of sweat on the nape of my neck and folds of my skin. 

“It’s almost afternoon. Where do you want to go?” I took another bit from the popsicle. The rapidly melting ice trickled down my thumb, leaving a sticky mess in its wake. Vi pondered for a while. “Let’s visit the nearby convenience store.” 

I scoffed. “That’s a place to visit?” Vi made a noise at the back of her throat. She stood up suddenly making the stagnant swing sway. I listed sideways and immediately uncrossed my legs and [planned
