Chapter Fifty-four

Thalina’s POV

I desperately needed a warm bath to soothe my throbbing head and wash away these relentless thoughts. Fenris was back—now, of all times. What was Father even thinking when he brought him here? Was Fenris truly the only trained soldier he could summon? What was Father trying to achieve by making Fenris come along? No matter how hard I tried to make sense of it, one thing was clear: Father didn’t care about me or how I felt. His only focus was excelling in this mission, and he’d sacrifice anything—anyone—to achieve that.

I was done catering to his whims, bending to his will. For too long, I’d let his ambitions dictate my life. But not anymore. From now on, I’d do things my way, and it starts with finding the Alpha king.

The water ran over my skin, but it did nothing to drown out the chaos in my head like I wanted it to do. My fingers curled into fists against the tiled wall as I tried to piece it all together. And the thought returned again, Fe

Thalina

I knew this was a bad idea. Bringing this man here—my father—was a terrible decision I might end up regretting. He wasn’t the type to sit back quietly. He had his plans, always did, and he was going to carry them out no matter what. He wasn’t to be trusted. Not now. Not ever.

But I felt cornered. I couldn’t stop it without revealing the real reason I didn’t want him here. And I had already said it—if I was going to tell Talon the truth, about why I came to this school in the first place, I wanted to be the one to tell him. Not let him find out on his own. And definitely not like this. Not with my father making another attempt to hurt him.

And now Talon wanted to share a drink with him?

It looked noble. Heartwarming, even—to everyone else. But not to me. I knew who my father was. I knew the kind of darkness that lived inside him, the evil that simmered just beneath the surface of that wide, charming grin. A man like him—so consumed by hunger for power t

They fastened the last clasp on my ceremonial tunic, a dark obsidian laced with silver embroidery, a garment only worn once in a lifetime. Sometimes that might change, it could be worn more than once, but that was for Alphas who wanted more than one Luna, but for me, this would be the last time.
I was only going to wear it for this moment. For the mating bond that would bind my soul to hers.

Thalina.

It was either her or no one else. She was mine, she had been mine even before now, this was just a formality, a way to show everyone here that she belongs to me.

Thalina. She was going to be my Luna today.

Her name echoed in my chest like thunder—loud, unstoppable—striking down every last defense I’d once built around my heart. Every barrier I had carefully erected to shield myself from love crumbled.

I used to believe love was weakness. That it was for the helpless, for the fragile, for those who didn’t carry the weight of k

My heart was still pounding hard against my chest as Vaelora gently led me out of the room, away from Talon’s touch and the burning intensity of everything that had just happened. I couldn’t stop looking over my shoulder, couldn’t stop clinging to the warmth of his words, the promise in his eyes.

He heard everything. He saw my tears. And still—he chose me.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to laugh or cry harder.

Vaelora squeezed my hand as we moved through the winding halls of the castle, her pace graceful, her expression kind and warm. “You’re safe now,” she said softly, as if she could hear the storm of fear and confusion roaring in my chest, as if she could see the uncertainty written boldly on my face. “You don’t have to be afraid here. We all here for you.” She smiled, a reassuring smile.

But that was the problem—I was afraid. Terrified. I feared the consequences of this union. The words of the elders and the soothsayer wouldn’t stop ringing lo

How dare they? Who exactly did they think they were, speaking to me—and to Thalina—that way? Those old, good-for-nothing fools. How could they look at us with such contempt, and even worse—how could they make her cry?

If I weren’t biting back every instinct to explode, if I wasn’t trying so hard not to ruin everything right here and now, I’d have ordered the guards to strip those arrogant elders naked and toss them out into the market square. Let the entire kingdom laugh at them, mock them, spit on their names—because that’s exactly what they deserved.

If I had the strength left in me, I’d strip them of their titles and privileges. Not just that—those same fools would find themselves locked in the darkest dungeon, fed to the beasts that lurk beneath these walls.

How dare they talk to me like that? Have they forgotten who I am? The power I hold over this entire kingdom? One word from me, and their miserable lives would end. How could they

Chapter Seventy-six Thalina What the hell was going on? Did he just call me human? That word echoed in my head like a curse. Human. Human. No. That couldn’t be right. That wasn’t right. Not in any way. I blinked rapidly, my heart thudding so hard I could feel it in my throat. My hands started to tremble. I looked around the throne room, and suddenly I could feel every pair of eyes drilling into me, burning my skin. The elders. The guards. The maids. All of them staring at me like I’d just grown horns, like I was some demon they couldn’t wait to throw out. Confusion twisted in my chest, sharp and wild, stabbing at me painfully. How was this even possible? I grew up among werewolves. My parents—my parents—they were both wolves. My family weee the same. I remembered their shifts. I remembered the howls. So how… how could I be human? How could a human be born of werewolves? It didn’t make any sense to me. “She is a human! A taboo!” The old man screamed, his entire face

  • On Her Professor’s Bed: Alpha’s Plaything   Taboo: The Human Mate

Chapter Seventy-five Talon Maverick (Two Days Later) The morning sun broke through the thick curtains of my chamber, casting a golden hue across the room that felt… different. Lighter. Warmer. Above all, it felt peaceful. For the first time in a long time, I woke up feeling whole, complete. Not from a victory in battle, not from a political win, not setting those lousy elders in their place—but because she was alive. Thalina had opened her eyes, smiled at me, called my name… and suddenly, the chaos of the world quieted. She was better now. And today, we’d meet the pack council and elders. I’d be showing them the woman I had chosen to rule over them and the kingdom beside me. They gave me one month ultimatum, and some of them thought I wouldn’t be able to pull this off, they thought by the end of the one month, I’d have nothing to show for it and they’ll strip me of my power. They didn’t know a thing. Left to me, I wouldn’t do this, but it was necessary. A tradition.
