Selene's POV

The Choice

Kael tense behind me “One more step and this meeting ends differently,” he warned, voice low and lethal.

Lucian ignored him and stopped a foot away from me, close enough that the heat between us charged up. My heart hammered against my rubs.

“You’re caught,” he said softly.

I frowned. “What?”

He lifted the tablet strap gently, where a stubborn strand of my silver hair had wrapped tightly around the buckle. Without asking permission, Lucian’s fingers moved carefully and

I woke with force, gasping for air, my whole body covered in cold sweat. The nightmare still clung to me like smoke.Amelia’s scream, Tyler’s disappointed eyes, the way everyone looked at me like I was poison, like I had lost my senses completely. I sat up in bed and hugged my knees, my chest felt tight as the past I've been trying to forget came crashing down again. The fear, the betrayal, the rejection. The accusation, and my desperate cry to be heard, to be believed. After steadying myself, I got ready and headed down for breakfast.Kael sat directly across from me at the table, his gaze never leaving my face. “How was your night?" I forced a small smile. “Fine." A small silence stretched.“I would love to go for a walk," I said. “I need to clear my head and get some fresh air," I added, before they could protest.“Don’t wander too far,” Kieran said.“I won't," I replied, forcing another smile.I could tell from their faces that they knew I wasn't okay, but didn't press. After

A mistake. The word burned in my mind, whirling in my chest like a physical blow. For minutes after Maddox slammed the door, I stood in the middle of the quiet room, my body shaking so violently, my knees threatened ti buckle. My lips were still swollen, burning with the sensation of the kiss.I reached my hand up and touched my lips.A small chThe heavy click of the deadbolt locking from the outside felt like a physical blow to my chest.A hollow, hysterical chuckle choked in my throat, instantly turning into a fresh wave of hot tears that tracked down my cheeks. My hands trembled as I wrapped my arms around my middle, hugging my ribs just to hold myself together. My chest burned.Everything was falling apart. The images flashed behind my eyes in a dizzying, sickening loop—Fiona on her knees, screaming into the dirt while her kind, gray-haired father layed under a blood-stained sheet, dead. The men staring at me like I was some sort of food and the women…. they looked disgusted. An

The taste of her tears coupled with sweet taste of her lips still burned against my lips, making my wolf pace around in the deepest part of my mind.‘’What are you—‘’‘’Shut up, Max! I’m trying to think!’’ I snapped at me, interrupting his next words as the word I had said to Vivienne kept replaying in my head over and over and over again. A mistake. My heart hammered frantically in my chest. Was it really a mistake? Or was I—"Maddox?"The sudden calling of my name accompanied with the clearing of throat made me flinch. My head snapped up, my hand instantly dropping from my chest and my back and face straightening. ‘’Cassian?’’ My voice was barely above a whisper as I eyed him from head to toe.He stood a few feet away from me, his dark brow pinched together in a furrow, his jaws locked tight as he assessed me.My hand tightened into fist by my side and I struggled to keep my beating heart at bay.But I could tell just by his looks that he caught on. He shrugged and walked forwar

SeleneThe moment Amelia screamed, everything around us became chaotic.Footsteps echoed loudly and confused voices filled the air as people rushed into the hallway immediately. Guests pushed closer to see what had happened, and within seconds my parents and Tyler appeared in front of us.I stood there frozen while Amelia cried on the floor holding her bleeding shoulder. I hadn’t even noticed the blood dripping from my palm.Blood stained her dress and her body shook as tears streamed down her face. Then she pointed at me.“Selene stabbed me!” she cried loudly as my chest tightened painfully.“What?” I gasped immediately. “No! That is not true!”Tyler rushed toward Amelia first. He dropped beside her quickly and grabbed her carefully while checking the blood on her shoulder.“Amelia,” he said urgently. “Look at me.”“She attacked me,” Amelia cried while leaning against his chest. “I only wanted to talk to her.”I shook my head desperately.“No,” I cried. “She is lying!”The guests beg

.Kael glared daggers at him, but Lucian simply buttoned his jacket and stepped back. Composed. His advisors were already waiting by the door. As he turned to leave, he paused beside me one last time. Without looking directly at me, he murmured, “Try sleeping on your left side tonight.”Then he was gone.I stood frozen, staring at the empty doorway. How did he know? I had been favoring my right side since the phantom injury, protecting the shoulder even after it healed. He wasn't supposed to know that, unless he felt discomfort. The drive home was tense. Kael gripped the steering wheel hard enough that his knuckles paled. “That arrogant bastard,” he spewed. “Did you see how he just walked up like he owned the room? Shadowveil men never change. Always playing games.”I stared out the window at the passing city lights, barely hearing him. Sleep on your left side. The words looped in my mind. Why would he care? Why would he notice something so small, so personal? The thought of Lucian

My heart hammered against my rubs.“You’re caught,” he said softly.I frowned. “What?”He lifted the tablet strap gently, where a stubborn strand of my silver hair had wrapped tightly around the buckle. Without asking permission, Lucian’s fingers moved carefully and untangled the strand. His knuckles brushed the side of my neck once, sending a spark of warmth through the bond.He was so close I forgot how to breathe, and the entire room seemed to hold its breath with me. Neither of us spoke.Kael finally snapped. He yanked Lucian’s wrist away. “Enough!”Lucian glanced down at his freed hand, completely unfazed. “Relax.” A tiny smile curved his lips as he looked back at me. “I just saved your sister from sacrificing half her hair.”I almost laughed. The sound nearly escaped before I caught it, turning it into a sharp exhale instead. I hated myself for it, I hated how light the moment f
