Chapter Thirty Nine

Everything around me stopped when Paige showed me the two rings on her finger.

"Was it that easy for you?" I asked her and she wiped her cheeks dry.

"I didn't know how you felt about me, what was I supposed to do?" She asked me.

"You could've waited. I was shot, Paige. I wanted to tell you how I felt that night." I said angrily.

"I didn't know-"

"You didn't know how you felt about me?" I asked and she looked down at her hands.

"I did- but I was too afraid to admit it to you or anyone else. You made everyone believe that I was dead. You made me believe that you would never be able to love me." She said so I looked into her eyes.

"There was a reason why I said that, and you just proved my point." I said and a look of guilt washed over her face. "You never cared about me." I said blankly.

"I did." She said softly. "I loved you since the first night we were together but-" she stopped her sentence before playing with the rings on her finger.

"But you love them more." I said
