Chapter 3

Author: Against the Flow
Unable to listen to Lina anymore, I bellowed, "Please watch your words, Lina! I didn't ask him for money to buy a house!"

Lina instantly shrank back as if frightened. "Let's just forget it, Jayden. Look. Her temper is still the same as always. It's no use helping her, so let's leave her alone already."

I said thoughtfully, "There's no need for you two to worry about my affairs."

However, Jayden was unwilling to let the matter rest. He grabbed my arm again and gripped it hard.

"Stop acting pitiful, Emily. You looked down on the 10 dollars I transferred to you all those years ago, but you'd hardly find as much in a trash can, right?

"And now, you're refusing the money I'm offering you. Do you think your dignity is going to fill your belly?"

I stared speechlessly at him. After all these years, did he still think I broke up with him because of those $10?

Back then, Lina left to study abroad without even a farewell. She broke up with him so suddenly that he found it difficult to accept reality and was extremely upset.

Jacob Porter, who saw his son so depressed, asked me to spend more time with him and get his spirits up. At that time, I thought that since I was friends with him, I would stay by his side and help him get over his emotional pain.

Later, we naturally started dating each other. Yet, when Lina returned from abroad, he started to grow cold, distanced himself from me, and hurt me.

When Lina and I both needed money, he only gave me $10 while transferring $3 million to Lina to buy a detached villa in Centralis.

Such obvious preferential treatment made me understand that Lina was the person he loved most. I still loved him back then, so I couldn't bear to let him go. It wasn't until Lina sent me a message that I gave up on him completely.

Could it be that he didn't even realize that? No, he was surely just playing dumb.

He was now the one harassing me. How utterly ridiculous.

I gazed coldly at his complicated expression. "Stop being so full of yourself, Jayden. I'm perfectly well-off right now, and it was just a coincidence that I met you here."

I then tried to tug my arm out of his grasp, but he was holding on too tightly. In fact, his grip was hurting me.

I continued, "Our relationship already ended many years ago, and I've never tried to seek you out again. You can rest assured of that."

He frowned at me, looking deep in thought.

In order to dispel his confusion, I elaborated, "Also, I'm married. My mate has a rather bad temper, so it'll be bad news if he sees you clinging onto me."

He dragged me over to him in shock upon hearing this. "Did you get married behind my back?"

I immediately broke out of his grasp and retreated a few steps.

He looked at me with great curiosity and asked, "Who's your mate? How could he allow you to be reduced to picking up trash?"

I hated being asked invasive questions like these and didn't reply.

Upon seeing that I wasn't speaking, he suddenly sneered. "You almost managed to trick me. Oh, I get it now.

"You wanted to use marriage to upset me and make me return to you. I'll have you know that even if you told me you gave birth to our child, I wouldn't care."

I was once again rendered speechless. He didn't have to put it so bluntly. I was also well aware that Lina was the only person he loved.

He had been the first to confess his love to me back then. I even asked him over and over again whether he had gotten over Lina. It wasn't until he swore that he had forgotten Lina that I agreed to be with him.

So, why did he now feel that I was still unwilling to give up on him and wanted to continue to be with him?

I wasn't the kind of person to go looking for trouble only to make a fool of myself.

Unfortunately, he had already formed his own preconceptions of me, so it didn't matter what I said. I turned around and continued to rummage through the trash, deciding to ignore him.

Lina held onto Jayden's arm. "Since she doesn't appreciate your help, it's useless trying to help her, Jayden. Let's just go!"

However, Jayden refused to leave. He stared closely at me, a trace of hesitation crossing his face.

Caspian reached out to touch my face, but his teeth were gritted as he continued, "I'm going to punish you properly tonight. I haven't seen you in a while, and you're already attracting other wolves."I shrank back involuntarily. I felt like crying when I thought about how possessive he was and how extremely insecure he was about love. Then, my thoughts returned to the "punishment" I might receive tonight, and I felt my legs go weak. Without waiting for my response, he picked me up and carried me into the car.I couldn't help glancing back. Jayden was lying in the shrubbery, his life hanging on by a thread. I couldn't see his face properly through all the swelling, and the blood flowing from the corners of his mouth was a horrifying sight.Caspian had been too heavy-handed with him. However, this incident also proved Caspian's love for me. He could appoint Jayden as Beta, but he could also revoke Jayden's Beta status for my sake.As our car drove away, I caught sight of Lina in t

Everyone in the banquet hall watched Jayden and Lina arguing with each other with great amusement.I frowned, feeling my head hurt. "Let's go, dear!"Caspian narrowed his eyes at me. He arched an eyebrow and asked, "Aren't you going to keep watching the show?"I deliberately rolled my eyes at him and shrugged. "It has nothing to do with me, so why would I watch?"I then turned and left with Cassidy in my arms."Your negligence caused your fiancee to bully the Luna Queen, Jayden, so you can forget about succeeding the Beta position," Caspian announced loudly before striding after me.Everyone was once again shocked. Jayden was originally set to become the next Beta, but now that he'd offended Caspian, he had lost the Beta position as well.In the future, he would just be an ordinary civilian. There was no longer any need for them to fawn over him either. As such, the crowd dispersed.Shortly after Caspian and I got into our car, Jayden caught up to us and stood in the way of our

The waitress lifted her head and pointed defiantly at Lina. "I'm not talking nonsense. Everyone saw how you led the narrative just now."Lina was panicking, but she still pretended to be calm and denied the accusation. "I didn't. It's all of you who were so certain that she was a beggar and a thief. It has nothing to do with me."The waitress retorted loudly, "If it weren't for you saying so much, would we have believed that?"Lina futilely tried to deny the obvious. "And what did I say? I didn't say a thing!"The waitress was speechless at her attempt to act dumb. Her eyes gleamed, and after a moment's thought, she said, "She did mislead everyone, Alpha King. She wanted to bring harm to the Luna Queen. Believe me."One of the kneeling wolves suddenly looked up. "I can testify that she called the Luna Queen a beggar and a thief."Now that someone had spoken up, everyone else gradually followed suit and stepped forward to identify the perpetrator as Lina, who cowered behind Jayden

Everyone in the banquet hall was so frightened they didn't dare make a sound. Some people were already trembling.Caspian pointed at the bodyguards he'd kicked to the floor, who still hadn't dared crawl to their feet, and asked, "Why did you apprehend my mate? Answer me!"One of the bodyguards answered honestly in a trembling voice.Upon learning the truth, the temperature around Caspian seemed to plummet, and he looked at me in exasperation. "If you lost the ring, just have the bodyguards look for it. You just had to look for it yourself and get yourself into this sorry state."Also, as long as you revealed your identity, there'd naturally be people willing to serve you. Are you that unwilling to use your authority?"He scanned the crowd with his sharp gaze, his voice instantly taking on an intimidating tone. "Or did everyone present ignore your identity and bully you to challenge my authority?"As the words left his mouth, the stifling pressure around him seemed to increase e

"Honey," I cried out aggrievedly. When Cassidy saw Caspian, she started crying even louder. "Daddy… I'm scared."Jayden heard how I addressed Caspian and looked at me in disbelief. He then scoffed at me. "Honey? How could you address the Alpha King like that? "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? If the Alpha King hears you call him that, he won't just drive you out of the kingdom, but also—"Before he could finish speaking, he saw Caspian hurry forward and send the two bodyguards flying. Then, he pulled me into an embrace. My mud-stained clothes sullied his clean suit, and my garbage-stained hands left marks on his chest.Caspian didn't care about that, though. He hugged me in distress and asked, "What's going on?"The crowd exploded into uproar upon seeing this."Daddy! Mommy!" Cassidy yelled in a choked voice. Lina immediately let go of Cassidy's hand, shocked.Cassidy ran over to us, and I pushed Caspian aside to hug her. Caspian glared at Cassidy in displeasure. "L

"I—"Just as I was about to deny Jayden's accusation, he cut me off again. "Lina and I are going to have our bonding ceremony soon, so it's impossible for me and you to be together."I felt incredibly exasperated. No matter how much I tried to explain, he refused to believe me. I tried to leave, but Lina reached out to stop me."Where did a beggar like you get such a precious diamond ring? You didn't steal it, did you?" she asked fiercely.I rolled my eyes at her and, working hard to suppress my anger, replied as calmly as possible, "This diamond ring belongs to me."Lina chuckled and said sarcastically, "Oh, please. This diamond ring is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Where did you get the money to buy it? Are you trying to pull our legs?"The waitress walked up to take a look at the diamond ring, then asked me angrily, "Hurry up and tell us. Where did you steal it from?"I took a deep breath, my expression stormy. "I didn't steal it. This is my diamond ring. I can show
