I got a lot more than an earful from my dad. He went on and on about how I was going to be a failure if I kept acting like an idiot. I didn't dare make a squeak as he kept berating me, when he got like that I just swallowed my words and kept it to myself. The last time I spoke back at him he threw an oak side table in my face which took me to the hospital and I left with thirty-six stitches on the side of my head. I still had the scar to remind me of everything. In the middle of it, a call came in from Lilian, Amelia’s mom. That was my saving grace.

I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen since her daughter was involved.

First the next morning, I got dressed and rushed out of the house to avoid my dad. I couldn't wait for him to get out of the house and head for his next business trip. I always had to walk around eggshells whenever he was home one slip up and I wouldn't hear the end of it. For someone who is barely present in my life, he sure makes it difficult.
