DORIAN

The shattering of a glass made my eyes flutter to nothing but a hazy environment. Also, something metallic rang in my ears repeatedly.

For a moment, I didn’t know where I was. The ceiling above me wasn’t the one in Ronan's room. Neither was the faint, golden shimmer of the chandelier trembling overhead.

My heart skipped as I wondered where I was.

My mind went back to what Ronan had planned last night. The ladies. Oh shit!

Then I turned to my side and my world realigned in a single, terrifying heartbeat.

My once upon a time Boss, Caspian was lying on the same bed with me.

He was asleep. His chest rising and falling, his lashes dark and fanned, his lips parted with that same smirk he had when he fired me from his company.

A splitting headache seeped into my head, accompanied by a sudden bang on the left side. I grabbed my head as I shut my eyes only to be met with some unclear images.

My heart quickened as I tried to piece them together. For some seconds, I remained in that po

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    39 ~ In The Arms of My Enemy

CASPIAN The moment I stepped into my house, I headed straight for the guest room to check on Dorian. But just as my hand wrapped around the doorknob, something inside me hissed No.I froze.I didn’t want to see him. I despised him. I despised him for his little pity act.Why was he walking alone on the road? Why did he pretend to be sick? Why beg me to save his life? And why-why had I fallen for it?All because of that meddling Xavier. If this continued, I would fire him from his job. He had already been here too long. Idiot.I turned away from the guest room and took the stairs two at a time. That’s a habit I’ve never been able to break. Honestly, who has the patience to take stairs one step at a time? Feels like torture. If I can run, I will. Every second counts.I looked around with the hopes of seeing Vinni, my dog. But she was nowhere to be found. It was probably asleep. When I reached my bedroom door, a yawn escaped before I could stop it. My hand was just on the handle whe

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    38 ~ Scars of The Heart II

CASPIAN Dorian's brown eyes shimmered under the golden lights, the pupils dilating like they were drinking it all in. He was dressed in a navy velvet blazer over a white silk shirt, with gold cufflinks that caught the light whenever he moved. Slim-fit trousers hugged his legs, and his black patent leather shoes reflected the glow of the fairy lights. His hair was styled to perfection, not a single strand out of place. The moment his gaze landed on me, his face lit up. I straightened from the fence and tried to smile back.He ran toward me and wrapped his arms around me in an embrace so sudden it knocked the breath from my chest. The overpowering scent of his cologne—expensive, sharp, and layered—flooded my senses until I nearly coughed. His hands lingered on my back before he stepped away. “Wow! I can’t believe you came.” His voice was genuinely warm.“Yeah… same,” I muttered, rubbing the back of my head. The truth was, I wouldn’t have been here if it weren’t for the money. That’s a

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    37 ~ Scars of The Heart

CASPIAN“Who is that young man in Xavier’s arms?”Alexandra’s voice cut through the still air, delicate yet sharp enough to make my chest tighten. It lingered in my ears even after I heard the dull thud of the car door shutting. And there it was—the question I had no desire to answer. Because how do I explain who Dorian is to me… without opening wounds that never healed?I eased myself out of her embrace, slowly, as though even the act of letting go carried a weight. Her eyes—those beautiful, searching eyes—were fixed on mine, holding a glimmer of curiosity that I knew would only grow sharper.I forced a smile, the kind that doesn’t reach the heart. “Let’s go inside. We’ll talk.”A faint smile tugged at her lips. “I’m glad.”I knew what had flashed through her mind, even without her saying it. She had jumped to the wrong conclusion again. And unless I set the record straight, she would keep thinking I had some taste for men. The irony of it almost made me laugh… almost. She stepped pa

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    36 ~ Caspian Vale Hits Passer-by To Death

CASPIAN I had already drifted off to sleep as Xavier drove toward my parents home, but the sudden screech of the tires and the violent halt jolted me forward, almost slamming my head into the back of the front seat.My eyes flew open. My chest rose sharply as my hand gripped Xavier’s shirt like my life depended on it.“What the hell were you driving at?” My voice came out cold, but just barely trembling. “You want to get us killed?”“I’m sorry… that man just came out of nowhere.” He kept his eyes on the road ahead, not daring to meet mine. What man? Where did he come from? I followed his gaze until it landed on a figure lying motionless in the middle of the road.I sank back into my seat, my heart pounding so hard it echoed in my ears. My hands flew to cover my mouth. “Did… Did we just kill someone?” My voice shook.“I don’t think he’s dead. He—”I cut him off. “Let’s go, Xavier. It's very bad. We can’t stay here another minute.”“At least we need to check who it is,” Xavier said,

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    His Lifeless Body

DORIANMy legs carried me out of Lavish Heights faster than I expected—so fast, it almost felt like I was being chased. But nothing pursued me except shame… and a heartbreak that shattered in clean, cold silence. The worst part? I wasn’t even breathing hard. I wasn't even in a rush. Adrenaline? No. There were just… hollow gasps. I didn’t bother looking for Ronan. Where would I even begin? And the tears—God, the tears just wouldn’t stop. They slipped out freely, tracing the same path of every pain I had tried so hard to forget. Pain after pain. That was all I had left.EARLIER… Still seated on the hallway floor, just outside that room where Victoria had thrown me out, I realized something bitter: Sitting here would change nothing.Nothing would be fixed. Nothing would be erased. If I truly wanted to protect Caspian’s reputation and stop him from hating me more than he already did, I had to leave quietly without more drama and another heartbreaking scene. So, still in my briefs, clutch

  • Once His Nightmare, Now His Employee    34 ~ If I Was Touched, Who Touched Me?

CASPIANTo be candid… would I have really done that? Whatever it was with Victoria. Like… Where are my principles? This is something I haven’t even done in the twenty-seven years of my life. I couldn’t have just done it without a spark. Without heat, or a feeling, or something even remotely believable. And yet… she felt like a total stranger to me.Even my heart didn’t believe whatever she said back there but… I couldn’t help the pinch of her pain that clung to my chest.Just as we stepped into the main hall, something hit me.Without asking Xavier to follow, I veered off towards the table I had sat with Victoria. I needed to see. Something. Anything. But getting there…The table was already cleared. Wiped clean. No sign of spilled drink. No stain. Not a single clue. They were all gone. It's been hours indeed. “Boss? What are you looking for?” Xavier asked behind me, his footsteps catching up. “And… what happened between you two?”“A lot happened. I…”I turned to face him and the w
