Chapter 265

"Alright." Sydney nodded and strode toward the elevators.

Inside the R&D department, the entire project team waited.

As soon as she entered, Henry handed her a lab report. "Take a look. These are the results that came in at noon."

She didn't bother to sit. Lowering her gaze, she studied the pages. One glance was enough—something was wrong.

Her finger tapped several points on the report. "These numbers don't add up. No matter what went wrong, they shouldn't look this extreme."

She wasn't claiming her plan was flawless, but she was at least 90% confident in it. Even in the worst failure, the results wouldn't look like this.

Marcus frowned, then his expression hardened. "You mean someone might have tampered with the results?"

"It's not a possibility," Sydney said flatly. "It's a certainty."

Her tone made Marcus' eyes turn cold. He slowly scanned the room, his gaze cutting across every member of the team.

"That's impossible," Henry blurted. "The lab only allows access to you, me,

Julian shot Raymond a sidelong look and said coolly, "Are you leaving or not?"Raymond threw up both hands. "I'm leaving, I'm leaving!"'Fine. But when you get kicked out, you'd better not come begging at my door,' Raymond added inwardly.Only after Raymond's car sped out of the courtyard did Julian stand and head upstairs. He went first to his study to finish some work.…Since everything in the room was already set up, Sydney took a fresh set of soft cotton loungewear and went into the bathroom. When she came out, her hair still damp, she drifted toward the balcony. The courtyard below was quiet. The cars were gone, so she assumed that Julian had already returned to Haven.A light knock sounded at the door."Ms. Wilson, the kitchen's stewed soup. Shall I bring it up for you?"It was Polly.Hearing her familiar voice, Sydney felt the last traces of unfamiliarity fade away. She went to open the door with a smile. Her dimples deepened, making her look sweet and soft, almost ch

Everything was exactly the brands Sydney was used to. If the rest of Delta Mansion had already impressed Sydney with Julian's meticulous care, stepping into the walk-in closet left her completely stunned.Rows upon rows of clothes filled the space—every style she had ever worn, from her teenage years to now—perfectly arranged. Each stage of her life, every change in taste, was preserved in careful order, as though someone had been quietly keeping track. The precision bordered on obsessiveness. And she knew at once whose particular sense of order it was.Something featherlight brushed against her heart, a soft, persistent flutter she couldn't shake.Sydney reached for one of the lower drawers, curious about what else he had hidden, when the man behind her cleared his throat."You take a look," Julian said, sounding slightly awkward. "I'll go out first. If you need anything, tell Polly."Polly Watkins, the housekeeper at Delta Mansion, had practically raised Elliot and Peter. Not

At her words, Julian calmly picked up a rib and placed it on her plate."There are toiletries and fresh clothes upstairs," he said evenly. "All brand new. Go up later and check if you're missing anything. I'll have someone prepare it."Sydney blinked. "There are?"There wasn't a single young woman living there. How could her things already be waiting for her?"Ever since you came back that one time, this place has been kept ready for you." Julian's tone stayed smooth and unhurried. He didn't say who had done the work or who had given the order. But clearly, no one here would have dared without his approval. It took Sydney a moment to process what he meant. So ever since she'd dropped by to return his suit, he'd already decided that if she ever came back, this would be her home.Warmth bloomed in her chest. She didn't thank him—it didn't feel like something that needed thanks.Raymond felt a pang of humility as he watched quietly. Moments ago he'd thought Julian's elaborate pla

Sydney was certain Julian still had some sense of decency left in him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have stopped at just a few kisses.Even so, she couldn't keep testing his patience. "If I… if I call you one more time, that'll do, right?"After all, this was the same man who had once kissed her senseless through a closed door.Julian nodded. "Mm."Sydney decided there was only one way out—run for it. "Jules," she blurted, her voice flat and stripped of emotion. The word came out rushed and awkward.A knock landed on the bathroom door, followed by Raymond's pointed voice. "Jules? You've been washing your hands for a while in there. Dinner's getting cold."Sydney froze, mortified. If there had been a hole in the floor, she would have gladly crawled into it. She shot Julian a glare and tried to pull free from his arms."Coming," he answered casually, not loosening his hold. His gaze stayed locked on her. "That didn't sound sincere."'So demanding,' she thought while panic flared. Aga

Julian's throat tightened when the teasing spark in Sydney's eyes flickered up at him. He had been holding back, aware that Agatha and Raymond were still in the house. But in that moment, his restraint gave way."Hm?" His voice came out low and drawn, an arched brow accompanying the sound. "What are you up to?"He spoke lazily as he turned off the tap and reached for a soft cotton towel. Unhurried, he dried their hands—hers first, then his own. The small act felt far too intimate. The tension that had hardened his features moments ago was gone. He looked as he always did, casual and unbothered but with a glint of amusement in his eyes. A dangerous warning if there ever was one.Sydney's ears turned hot. Sensing trouble, she tried to pull her hand free. "Nothing. You should go. Your grandmother and Raymond are still—"Before she could finish, his newly dried hand slipped around her waist, drawing her close and pressing her back gently against the marble counter. Her words died. S

Something like eye muscle spasms would have been Sydney's specialty.Raymond coughed into his fist. "No need. I'm fine. Just haven't been sleeping well lately."He quickly turned to Agatha, eager to change the subject. "Agatha, your ankle must really hurt, huh? Pretty bad, right?"Agatha pretended not to hear. 'These two little brats!'On the other hand, Sydney looked genuinely worried. "Are you sure you're—""I'm fine, I'm fine!" Agatha caught Sydney's cold fingers, chilled from holding the ice pack for so long, and patted them warmly."Sydney, it's dreadfully boring living here alone. And now that I've hurt my foot, I can't even go out." She paused, looking a little embarrassed. "Could you stay with me for a while?"Sydney froze. It wasn't an unreasonable request. Delta Mansion was Julian's place, and most of the household staff were people she already knew.Still, she hesitated. "Wouldn't it be better to ask Julian to come back and keep you company instead?""Him?" Agatha g
