"Plans have changed." James pulled out the chair beside her and sat down. He picked up the set of clean utensils the maid brought over.

With a warm smile, half teasing, he asked, "Do you know what makes my mom happiest?"

Florence noticed he chose the seat next to Sydney and smiled like a spring breeze. A thought slipped through her mind. 'Could this boy possibly like Sydney?'

He had never shown interest in any woman. She had even wondered at one point if he preferred men.

Sydney did not think that far. She asked instinctively, "What is it?"

James glanced at his mother and smiled. "Every time she sees you, she stays happy for two days. Sharing a meal with you gives her three."

Florence did not blush. She lifted her chin. "Of course. Sydney does not annoy me like you and that brat do."

Sydney blinked. "Brat?"

"Raymond," James answered without hesitation.

Sydney was stunned and almost laughed. Few would imagine the fearsome fourth Hutton heir carried that nickname at home.
