Chapter 3

Penulis: Asteria
When I arrived at Owen's estate, the long dining table was already packed with people.

Finn sat to Owen's right, with Stella clinging close to his side, laughing and chatting with several elders.

I stood by the doorway for a long moment before Finn finally noticed me. He raised his hand lazily, gesturing for me to come over, only for me to discover that there wasn't even a seat left for me at the entire table.

The servants had no choice but to fetch a spare chair and place it at the far end of the long table, right next to the walkway used by the serving staff. No one seemed to find anything wrong with this.

Watching Stella naturally adjust Finn's napkin, I couldn't help but recall last year's pack banquet, when they had also let Stella sit in my spot.

Back then, I had stood up and stormed off on the spot, and Finn had chased after me, wrapping his arms tightly around me.

"Don't be angry, Eloise. You are my mate," he had kissed my forehead, whispering low assurances. "No matter who sits next to me, the position of Luna belongs only to you."

Yet a year later, I didn't even have the right to sit beside him anymore.

The servants began serving the meal, making a point to place the dishes Stella liked right in front of her.

When a roasted meat dish arrived sprinkled with a bit of crushed mint, Finn immediately summoned the butler.

"Make a new portion," Finn said displeased. "She can't stand mint. Don't you all know that?"

The butler bowed his head in a hurried apology and whisked the whole platter away.

"It's no big deal, really. I just don't care much for the taste," Stella cooed softly.

"How could it be no big deal? Ensuring a pleasant dining experience is a mate's duty." He flicked an intentional glance toward me.

I looked at the hazelnut cake closest to me and quietly pushed the plate a little farther away.

I have a severe allergic reaction to hazelnuts. When we first bonded, Finn used to personally instruct the kitchen to keep anything containing hazelnuts away from my plate.

Yet there were always hazelnut crumbles at every banquet. So later, when I mentioned it, he merely frowned and told me to just pay attention before eating, rather than troubling everyone over every little thing.

Owen raised his eyes, casting a cold sweeping glance at me. "What's the matter? Feeling wronged? With Stella temporarily acting as Luna these few days, sitting beside the Alpha is only natural. You ought to show some grace as a mate."

Finn seemed quite pleased with his father's words, slicing the roasted meat on the plate in front of Stella. "Father is right. There's no need to take every little thing to heart."

The meal soon drew to a close. Owen set down his dining knife. "I have an announcement regarding the blessing ceremony."

According to the traditions of the SnowMoon Pack, on the first full moon of every winter, the Alpha and Luna were to ask the Moon Goddess for Her blessing.

He suddenly looked over at me. "Eloise, since Stella is acting as Luna these few days, she should handle the related affairs. It just so happens we need a family photograph later. Hand over the Moon Crown to Stella so things look proper."

At this absolute provocation and humiliation to my position as Luna, several of Finn's cousins chimed in immediately.

"Stella has been familiar with pack traditions since childhood. She's truly the best fit for it."

"Exactly, with her assisting the Alpha, future blessing ceremonies will run even smoother."

Stella barely fought off a smile as she hurriedly waved her hands, putting on a timid, frightened facade: "Oh, no, that wouldn't be appropriate, would it? The Moon Crown belongs to the Luna. How could I take it?"

Finn spoke to me with impatience. "Since Father has spoken, bring out the Moon Crown. Once the ceremony is over, Stella will naturally return it to you."

I offered no argument whatsoever. I carried the velvet box back to the long table and opened it in front of everyone.

The crown rested quietly on the deep blue velvet, its moonstones gleaming with a cool, pristine luster under the chandelier lights, a treasure I had once thought I would cherish for a lifetime.

Stella stood up immediately, her lips still offering hollow refusals, "Oh my, Alpha, this really isn't right..."

Finn, however, snatched the box right out of my hands, picked up the crown, and placed it directly onto her head.

"It suits you well." He said.

Owen nodded with satisfaction. "Now that looks proper. Having Stella assist the Alpha with these matters is more than fitting."

The medical center prepared for expansion, establishing long-term collaborations with several neighboring packs. I was so busy every day that I barely had time to rest, yet I had never felt so fulfilled.Every action I took paved the way for the life I desired, driven entirely by my own heart. Two years later, supported by Jenny and a group of like-minded healers, I established my own professional medical team. We set up permanent medical outposts across several remote territories and provided systematic training for any wolf wishing to become a healer. On the day the medical team was officially founded, we hosted a grand celebration. Almost every patient I had ever helped attended, gathering to offer their sincere congratulations, bringing tears to my eyes.Jenny walked over to my side holding two glasses of wine. "Congratulations, Eloise. You've finally achieved what you always wanted to do!"I took the glass and clinked it gently against hers. "Thanks to all of you.""To new beginni

Finn froze as if struck full force across the face."There won't be a next time!" He frantically grabbed my hand, panic flooding his eyes. "I've already made Stella leave the estate! There won't be any more games, and no one will ever place bets on you again. I will give you back your position as Luna, as long as we bond again!""I no longer need the position of Luna," I said. "When I was with the SnowMoon Pack, I thought that if I did well enough, you would finally see me. Now I realize I don't need to live for anyone else's expectations. I can do what I want to do. I have a job I love, companions who respect me, and goals I want to achieve. I am living very well right now."I paused before adding, "As for you, I no longer need you either."Finn's eyes reddened instantly. "Eloise..."I checked the time."I have patients to attend to. You should leave."Rain had begun to fall outside.Without me preparing rain gear for him as I used to, he stood alone in the downpour, watching me hold

Finn stood frozen on the spot. That meant while he was assuming she was merely throwing a tantrum, she had already been preparing to travel to a completely new place and start a life without him."How... how is she doing?""She is highly respected there, Alpha. Word is she was appointed directly as a senior healer, and everyone at the care center likes her very much."Those words struck like a blade, piercing straight into Finn's heart. In his subconscious, he had believed that leaving him meant Eloise would lose everything familiar, feeling helpless in an unfamiliar territory until she finally realized the SnowMoon Pack was her true home.Yet the reality was the exact opposite. Losing the title of Luna hadn't stripped her of anything; instead, her career was flourishing while his own life had devolved into utter chaos.Finn finally decided to travel to the SilverCedar Pack.He didn't demand an official meeting using his status as Alpha, choosing instead to ride alone across the mounta

With a single phone call, Finn summoned every friend who had ever taken part in those bets back to the estate. They walked into the study with their usual easy smiles hanging on their faces."So, how long is Eloise planning to stay out this time?""My bet is she won't last a month. After living in the SnowMoon Pack for so many years, how could she bear to leave you?"Finn suddenly slammed his phone violently right at them."Who gave you permission to place bets on my mate?!"The room instantly fell dead silent. After a long pause, someone finally ventured in a small voice:"Finn... wasn't this your own idea in the first place?""Yeah. You were the one who said you wanted to see how much she cared about you. You had us record every incident so you could look back on them later. Stella just secretly posted them online."Finn's breath hitched, rendering him completely speechless. They weren't wrong. Every single act of humiliation, every cold rejection, and every ounce of pain Eloise had

As the divine power gently brushed against the mate mark on my neck, a sharp, searing pain instantly pierced through my entire body. I subconsciously gritted my teeth. On the other side, Finn clearly felt the agony as well. The mate contract connecting us was unravelling, and the scents that had been linked together were being peeled away piece by piece from the depths of our wolves. In a flurry of panic, he reached out to grab me, but I stepped aside."Don't touch me."He froze on the spot. The priest continued chanting the ancient prayers. I felt a sudden lightness at my neck, as if a string had finally snapped.I could no longer feel Finn's emotions, nor could I hear that voice that had once been intimately bound to my wolf. Our mate bond was broken."From this moment forth, Eloise Aldridge is no longer the bonded mate of Finn Thornweald, nor does she carry the duties of the Luna of the SnowMoon Pack," the priest announced.I let out a long breath, a tearful smile breaking across my

Finn's expression changed instantly. He stared fixedly at me. "Eloise... are you really going to be this ruthless?""Finn, I'll see you there in a few days."Ignoring his words, I turned and walked toward the exit.He was still convinced that I was merely waiting for him to stay his hand. Perhaps in his imagination, I would soon prove unable to keep up the act, crying and screaming as I voluntarily bowed my head to him.Yet when the heavy doors shut behind me, I never looked back.I heard his bitter, huffing voice from inside: "Fine! Set up the ceremony! The sooner, the better!"The priest calculated the timing, setting the dissolution ceremony two weeks out.Finn's friends still treated the entire affair like a farce, believing I was simply throwing a tantrum and being ungrateful. Some advised Finn to send me some fine jewelry and say a few soft words so I could save face and return.Yet Finn refused to bow his head first."She won't bring herself to leave me. As long as the mate bond
