Chapter 2

Autor: Asteria
The next day, I returned to the mansion.

The guards barred my way. They knew exactly who I was, yet they still stood firmly in front of me.

"My apologies. The Alpha ordered that no one is allowed to enter the mansion without his permission."

"Hello there, you're back!" Stella stepped out, wearing my bathrobe and walking around in my slippers. She gave the guards a gentle nod, smiling with effortless composure as she gestured for me to step inside.

"Finn said you could come by and pack your things if you're insisting on leaving," she said.

Inside the master bedroom, everything had been transformed into a bright shade of purple. The bed was made with brand-new light violet sheets, and the vanity table, once filled with my belongings, had been replaced by lavender-toned cosmetics sets and countless purple gemstone jewelry pieces.

The portrait capturing Finn and my bonding ceremony had also been taken down from the wall, casually discarded in a corner. My face in the painting was blocked by a chaotic mess of cardboard boxes filled with my items, leaving only half of Finn's face visible.

Finn walked into the room, lightly kicking one of the boxes toward me. "Eloise, I've had your stuff packed up. Whether you leave or stay is up to you, but once you've thrown enough of a fit, know when to stop."

"Finn, maybe I should move out instead?" Stella chimed in softly. "She is your true mate, after all. I shouldn't be occupying the master bedroom without her permission."

Though her lips spoke of leaving, her body remained glued to Finn's side. As expected, Finn caught her by the arm. "You live here now. You don't need her permission for anything you do."

A familiar glint of amusement danced in his eyes. "If she still wants the position of Luna, she had better learn how to be an obedient mate."

He seemed to be waiting for me to show a look of intense jealousy, to break down crying, sweep all of Stella's things onto the floor, or demand to know who he truly loved. Finn knew this all too well.

Yet this time, I simply bent down, picked up the cardboard box, and asked calmly, "Is everything of mine here?"

For the first time, the smirk on Finn's lips faded.

He stared at me for a few long seconds before his voice turned icy. "A good try, Eloise. Let's see how long you can hold out."

Without giving him any response, I turned around and shut the door behind me.

...

On the third day of this ridiculous game, Finn's father, Owen, the former Alpha of the SnowMoon Pack, sent a messenger with a strict order: I was required to attend a dinner party at his estate and bring along the Moon Crown, a sacred relic passed down through generations of Lunas.

I knew that in Owen's eyes, I was merely an ordinary healer lacking a prestigious bloodline, unworthy of becoming the Luna of the SnowMoon Pack. By contrast, Stella, who hailed from a prominent pack and had been groomed to be a Luna since childhood, was his ideal vision of a mate for his son.

To marry me, Finn had gone as far as engaging in a bitter two-year cold war with his father, nearly forfeiting his position as the pack's heir in the process.

"My mate is my choice. I love her. This is fate, and nothing can change it."

It was only because of his unyielding stubbornness that the Moon Crown, a crown never intended for my hands, finally rested upon my head.

My fingertips lightly brushed against the cool, intricate engravings on the crown. It was an old tradition of the SnowMoon Pack. Every Alpha's mate had to receive the blessing of the Moon Crown before the altar of the Moon Goddess. After Owen reluctantly had placed it on me, he had looked at Finn and uttered a single line that echoed in my mind like a curse.

"Love is the most hypocritical thing in existence. Soon enough, you'll see, my son."

Unluckily for me, he was right.

I carefully placed the crown into its velvet-lined box. Perhaps today was the perfect opportunity to return it where it belonged.

The medical center prepared for expansion, establishing long-term collaborations with several neighboring packs. I was so busy every day that I barely had time to rest, yet I had never felt so fulfilled.Every action I took paved the way for the life I desired, driven entirely by my own heart. Two years later, supported by Jenny and a group of like-minded healers, I established my own professional medical team. We set up permanent medical outposts across several remote territories and provided systematic training for any wolf wishing to become a healer. On the day the medical team was officially founded, we hosted a grand celebration. Almost every patient I had ever helped attended, gathering to offer their sincere congratulations, bringing tears to my eyes.Jenny walked over to my side holding two glasses of wine. "Congratulations, Eloise. You've finally achieved what you always wanted to do!"I took the glass and clinked it gently against hers. "Thanks to all of you.""To new beginni

Finn froze as if struck full force across the face."There won't be a next time!" He frantically grabbed my hand, panic flooding his eyes. "I've already made Stella leave the estate! There won't be any more games, and no one will ever place bets on you again. I will give you back your position as Luna, as long as we bond again!""I no longer need the position of Luna," I said. "When I was with the SnowMoon Pack, I thought that if I did well enough, you would finally see me. Now I realize I don't need to live for anyone else's expectations. I can do what I want to do. I have a job I love, companions who respect me, and goals I want to achieve. I am living very well right now."I paused before adding, "As for you, I no longer need you either."Finn's eyes reddened instantly. "Eloise..."I checked the time."I have patients to attend to. You should leave."Rain had begun to fall outside.Without me preparing rain gear for him as I used to, he stood alone in the downpour, watching me hold

Finn stood frozen on the spot. That meant while he was assuming she was merely throwing a tantrum, she had already been preparing to travel to a completely new place and start a life without him."How... how is she doing?""She is highly respected there, Alpha. Word is she was appointed directly as a senior healer, and everyone at the care center likes her very much."Those words struck like a blade, piercing straight into Finn's heart. In his subconscious, he had believed that leaving him meant Eloise would lose everything familiar, feeling helpless in an unfamiliar territory until she finally realized the SnowMoon Pack was her true home.Yet the reality was the exact opposite. Losing the title of Luna hadn't stripped her of anything; instead, her career was flourishing while his own life had devolved into utter chaos.Finn finally decided to travel to the SilverCedar Pack.He didn't demand an official meeting using his status as Alpha, choosing instead to ride alone across the mounta

With a single phone call, Finn summoned every friend who had ever taken part in those bets back to the estate. They walked into the study with their usual easy smiles hanging on their faces."So, how long is Eloise planning to stay out this time?""My bet is she won't last a month. After living in the SnowMoon Pack for so many years, how could she bear to leave you?"Finn suddenly slammed his phone violently right at them."Who gave you permission to place bets on my mate?!"The room instantly fell dead silent. After a long pause, someone finally ventured in a small voice:"Finn... wasn't this your own idea in the first place?""Yeah. You were the one who said you wanted to see how much she cared about you. You had us record every incident so you could look back on them later. Stella just secretly posted them online."Finn's breath hitched, rendering him completely speechless. They weren't wrong. Every single act of humiliation, every cold rejection, and every ounce of pain Eloise had

As the divine power gently brushed against the mate mark on my neck, a sharp, searing pain instantly pierced through my entire body. I subconsciously gritted my teeth. On the other side, Finn clearly felt the agony as well. The mate contract connecting us was unravelling, and the scents that had been linked together were being peeled away piece by piece from the depths of our wolves. In a flurry of panic, he reached out to grab me, but I stepped aside."Don't touch me."He froze on the spot. The priest continued chanting the ancient prayers. I felt a sudden lightness at my neck, as if a string had finally snapped.I could no longer feel Finn's emotions, nor could I hear that voice that had once been intimately bound to my wolf. Our mate bond was broken."From this moment forth, Eloise Aldridge is no longer the bonded mate of Finn Thornweald, nor does she carry the duties of the Luna of the SnowMoon Pack," the priest announced.I let out a long breath, a tearful smile breaking across my

Finn's expression changed instantly. He stared fixedly at me. "Eloise... are you really going to be this ruthless?""Finn, I'll see you there in a few days."Ignoring his words, I turned and walked toward the exit.He was still convinced that I was merely waiting for him to stay his hand. Perhaps in his imagination, I would soon prove unable to keep up the act, crying and screaming as I voluntarily bowed my head to him.Yet when the heavy doors shut behind me, I never looked back.I heard his bitter, huffing voice from inside: "Fine! Set up the ceremony! The sooner, the better!"The priest calculated the timing, setting the dissolution ceremony two weeks out.Finn's friends still treated the entire affair like a farce, believing I was simply throwing a tantrum and being ungrateful. Some advised Finn to send me some fine jewelry and say a few soft words so I could save face and return.Yet Finn refused to bow his head first."She won't bring herself to leave me. As long as the mate bond
