Chapter 4

Author: Anonymous
When Elara found out about it, she charged straight to my apartment in a fury.

The moment she stepped through the door, she started screaming at me, "Cassian! Have you lost your mind? You actually dared to cancel the wedding?

"You’ve really grown bold. Have you forgotten how you used to grovel just to pursue me? It was something this small, and you’re calling off the wedding? Haven’t you made mistakes all these years?"

As she spoke, she began smashing things wildly.

"I told you, I just didn’t want to leave regrets in my life. Can you stop being so old-fashioned? And you even told my parents about it. Aren’t you something?"

I stood in the living room and watched her unravel in silence. The woman in front of me was nothing like the girl who once saved me from humiliation. For a fleeting second, I even wondered if she was truly that gentle girl at all. Or had someone else taken over her body?

The thought made me laugh at myself. I must be losing it.

I crossed the room in a few strides and snatched the pillow from her hands without mercy.

"Are you done?"

Maybe she had never seen me speak to her like that before. She actually froze.

I drew in a deep breath.

"Elara, I truly liked you. I thought you liked me too. You said you didn’t like other people touching you. That’s why, all these years we were together, I never even held your hand.

"And now? You turn around and sleep with another man. Do you think I’m an idiot?"

She looked at me, her face full of impatience. "I already said it! I just didn’t want to leave regrets in my life. Can you stop harping on this?"

I let out a tired sigh. "You know better than I do whether that’s really the reason.

"There are things I don’t want to dig into. I just hope you know when to stop, before this turns into something none of us can walk away from cleanly."

"You’re so backward."

With that single sentence, I had no rebuttal. In her eyes, going to a hotel with another man the day before her wedding was nothing. My humiliation and pain counted for even less.

Suddenly, I remembered the day she accepted my proposal. Fireworks had filled the sky as we promised each other a lifetime. She said she would love me forever from then on.

That night, she had looked at me, her eyes curved in a bright smile.

"Mr. Rowe, from now on, I’ll love you in place of your parents."

In that moment, there had only been the two of us in each other’s eyes.

Now, I was no longer the person she loved. Ever since Drew returned, all her thoughts had been on him. I was no longer the man she had sworn to cherish.

My thoughts snapped back to the present. I looked at the woman before me and felt a fatigue I had never known before.

I should have understood long ago. How could someone like me ever deserve something so beautiful?

"Elara, let’s break up. It’s better for both of us. Whatever happened between us ends here. I’m tired."

She let out a cold laugh. "Fine! Very impressive, Cassian! If you want to break up, then we’ll break up!"

Our wedding was finally canceled. During that time, I buried myself in work and knew little about what she was doing.

Until the day she officially confirmed her relationship with Drew.

She asked me to meet her at a cafe and showed up glowing, eager to flaunt her new life.

I wasn’t interested in her life. There were just some things I needed to make clear.

So we arranged to meet at a cafe.

At the same time, Ivy, Julian, and I moved to Fairmont and began a new life.I held a grand wedding for Ivy there. As I watched her walk toward me, my heart filled with a satisfaction I had never known before. I thought that for the rest of my life, she and I would be happy. Two years later, our daughter, Tori Rowe, was born. She was practically a miniature version of Ivy, except for her temper, which she inherited from me.Julian came over every day just to hold my precious girl and dote on her. Sometimes it felt like he was the child’s real father. When Tori turned three, work brought Julian and me back to Ashton Bay. Ivy and Tori came with us.Five years had passed. The city felt both familiar and unfamiliar.I was shopping with Ivy and Tori at a mall when I saw Elara's parents. They greeted me politely.Just as they were about to exchange pleasantries, they noticed Ivy walking toward us, holding Tori’s hand. Their expressions stiffened. They looked at Ivy and Tori with unmis

The day I proposed to Ivy happened to be the same day as Drew and Victoria’s grand wedding.Every major media outlet was livestreaming the ceremony. Screens were broadcasting the wedding in unison.I held Ivy in my arms and made a silent vow. When we got married, I would give her a magnificent wedding too. I would make her the happiest bride in the world.I was lost in plans for our future when the massive screen in the distance suddenly changed.A gaunt, disheveled woman appeared. Her eyes were bloodshot. She rushed toward the stage like a madwoman, screaming curses."Victoria Lane! You witch! You killed my son! I’ll make you pay with your life!"The wedding descended into chaos. The bodyguards reacted immediately and ran to shield Victoria, but it was already too late. The fruit knife in Elara’s hand was less than a foot away from its target. The guests were frozen in shock. Not a single person moved to protect her.Elara lunged forward, driving the knife toward Victoria’s

I thought everything would end there. I underestimated Elara's shamelessness. To protect the baby, she publicly claimed the child was mine. She posted a tearful statement on social media. People who didn’t know the truth flooded my account. They cursed me freely and even dug up my past. They called me a walking disaster, saying anyone who got close to me would meet a terrible end. Some even urged her to escape me as soon as possible.Meanwhile, she played the role of the heartbroken woman. She said no matter what I became, as long as I was willing to come back, she would wait for me.I had to admire her acting.Overnight, she became the brave and kind single mother, whereas I became the scumbag who abandoned his wife and child.People found my home address and gathered outside, demanding I give her an explanation. However, I had already moved. When they couldn’t find me, they went to my studio instead.I looked at the furious crowd downstairs and calmly called the police, who

Sure enough, within two days, every major financial news outlet was reporting that Victoria Lane had returned to the country to fulfill her engagement with Drew.At that moment, I was packing my luggage, ready to leave at any time.During this period, Julian had deliberately tried to set me up with his younger sister, Ivy Hart.At first, I refused. As we spent more time together, I gradually realized she was genuinely kind. Before I knew it, I had fallen for the gentle, thoughtful Ivy.I planned to make things official once I settled down in Fairmont.Just as I was immersed in that quiet happiness, Elara showed up at my door. When she arrived, Ivy and I were preparing to load the luggage into the car.The moment she saw me carrying boxes, she rushed forward and blocked my path. "Cassian! What are you doing?""Moving."My tone was calm, but she reacted as if she had lost her mind, grabbing me tightly."Who said you could move? Where are you going? I won’t allow it!"Her grip

After hearing that Elara and I had broken up, my business partner, Julian Hart, laughed and said we should celebrate. We sat at a roadside taco stand, eating tacos and drinking beer. After several rounds, he slung an arm around my shoulders. "Congratulations. You got out of an unhealthy relationship."I gave a bitter smile and clinked my bottle against his. "Even you could tell?"He clicked his tongue. "Anyone with eyes could tell. You were the only one too close to see it."I looked up at the setting sun in the sky. The only face that came to mind was hers. "She… she used to be really good."Julian glanced up at the sky as well. "People change. No one is indispensable."That night, we drank ourselves senseless.Through the haze, I saw Elara again. She was wearing a red dress, radiant as the sun, beautiful beyond compare. She smiled and reached her hand toward me."Cassian, don’t take their words to heart. None of it was your fault. You deserve all the beauty in this world."

The moment I arrived, I saw her sitting there, draped in designer labels from head to toe. When she noticed me, she gave me a smug smile.I ignored it and sat down across from her.She picked up her spoon and stirred her coffee lazily."Cassian, I belong to Drew now. When I give him a child, the position of Mrs. Mercer will be mine." She lifted her eyes and looked at me with open contempt. "So? Do you regret it?"I had no interest in watching her gloat. "You said you were frigid. How could you sleep with him? Was it because he paid you?"Her face went pale with anger. She raised her hand to slap me, but her hand never reached my face. I grabbed her wrist tightly. As she struggled, she cursed, "Cassian! You scumbag! Let go of me!"I flung her hand away and forced myself not to hit her. "Tell me. Why?"Instead of answering, she burst into laughter. "Cassian, you really are stupid. You actually believed such a pathetic lie? I’m not frigid. I just feel sick whenever I see you. Who
