Chapter 7 She is very gentle

Alice swiftly dodged it and the glass smashed behind her. She had never seen a kid as unruly as this one. Alice frowned angrily, however… when she looked at the boy’s face, her anger dissipated.

The kid sat behind the wall made up of pillows and bedding, like a little prince. He looked adorable. However, at this moment, he looked very upset.

“What’s wrong, buddy? Did anyone bully you?” Alice took a couple of steps and squatted down and asked.

Max looked at her with a hint of puzzlement flashing in his eyes. And then, he pushed her hand away, acting like he didn’t want to interact with Alice.

Seeing this, Alice avoids touching him. She just quietly on the floor with him. Soon someone knocked on the door and said, “Miss Brown, the soup and pancakes you ordered are ready. Do you need us to send them in?”

“No need.” Alice said, “Just leave them outside.”

At the same time, the fragrance of the pancakes drifted into the room. Max did not speak but occasionally looked at Alice. He also swallowed his saliva several times.

“Little boy you must be hungry after throwing tantrums and trashing the room for quite a while.” Alice thought in her heart and then said, “I am hungry. Can I eat something here?”

Like before, Max just frowned and looked away. He didn’t say a word in response. Alice took it as a yes. After that, Alice went out and took the tray of pancakes and soup into the room. Before eating the pancakes, she started to pour the syrup onto the pancakes and exclaimed, “Mmm, So good! They smell so tasty!”

“Growl…” Max’s stomach growled audibly.

Alice looked up and saw Max looking eagerly at her pancakes. She then asked, “You know, pancakes are my favorite. My daughter, Elly, was the same age as you and also loved to eat pancakes. Do you want a bite of it?”

Still sitting on the floor, Max hesitated for a moment before nodding his head.

“Okay, then, “ Alice sat beside him and fed him a piece of pancake, asking, “Does it taste good?”

Max’s eyes lit up and he nodded. Alice continued to feed him. While Max looked carefully at Alice. He thought in his heart, “You are so good to me! Unlike other people who fear me and hate me, you are very kind and gentle to me!”

Soon, he finished eating the pancake and start to drink the soup. Alice handed him a napkin and said, “Now that you are full, you have enough strength to throw a tantrum again, right?”

Feeling embarrassed and upset, Max looked away. It seemed that he did not like being lectured by anyone like that.

Alice chuckled and was about to take out the empty plates when she felt that someone was holding onto her. She looked down and found that it was Max. He looked rather sad and reluctant for her to leave.

Alice thought of Eliana when she looked into his eyes. She also had no time for Elly when she was busy at work, which saddened her very much. To her relief, Elly was doing great in kindergarten and made a lot of friends there.

“I am not leaving. I am just taking out the dishes.” Alice assured him in a gentle voice.

Yet, still, Max did not let her go.

With a wry smile, Alice placed the dishes down, squatted, and asked Max, “You want me to stay with you, right?”

In reply, Max nodded shyly.

“Okay, I will stay.” Alice smiled and Max’s eyes immediately lit up.

“But we can’t sit on the floor. It’s cold. How about sitting on the sofa?” Alice asked and Max nodded quickly.

Seems like you are not as hot-tempered as others described you, kid. Thinking of that, Alice smiled in satisfaction to tell him some jokes and Max laughed happily, but he still would not speak.

Having made sure Max was in a better mood, Alice asked, “Can you tell me why you are unhappy? Is it because no one played with you and you feel lonely?”

At this point, Max began to gesture and point as if he was signaling to Alice for a pen and paper. Getting the hint, Alice looked around and saw a notebook and pen on the table. There was some scribbling on the paper, and it seemed that someone had prepared them for Max in advance. She then handed them to Max.

Taking the paper and the pen, Max scribbled, “Daddy is bad. He promised to play with me but did not come back.”

Alice was surprised that such a little kid could write so many words. She then realized that his parent must have taught him how to write. And looked like the kid couldn’t speak.

“So, you are trying to tell me that you are unhappy because your father didn’t play with you?”

Hearing Alice's words Max firmly nodded and frowned angrily.

Alice sighed and patted his head as she uttered, “Perhaps, your daddy is very busy. Daddy wants you to give you a better life and that’s why he doesn’t have time to play with you.”

Max did not accept this. He huffed and puffed angrily and wrote, “I did not see a daddy for days. I hate him.”

Alice frowned and was shocked that his father left him in the hotel for a few days.

“I will speak to your father when he gets back.” Alice held Max's hands and fumed, “How could he leave a kid alone at the hotel? Isn’t he afraid that something might happen to you?”

Max nodded in agreement.

“Were you alone in this room all these days?” Alice asked.

Max nodded again.

With a frown, Alice thought, “All kids love to play. The VVIP suite is huge, but even an adult could not stand being cooped for days, not to mention a kid.”

A brief moment later, Alice asked, “How about I take you out for a walk and get some fresh air? What do you think?”

With his big eyes glistening, Max nodded happily.

“Oh, What’s your name by the way?” Alice asked as they were leaving. Suddenly, she remembered that the boy could not speak. She then rushed back to the bedroom to retrieve the notebook and pen, leaving him alone in the sitting room.

Suddenly, there was a “clunk” and someone yelled, “The chandelier!”

Alice just came out of the bedroom with the paper and pen in her hand when she saw the chandelier above Max began to swing violently and was about to fall off.

“Ah!!!”

Other employees screamed when the chandelier fell off the ceiling.

Without a second of hesitation, Alice rushed to Max and covered him with her body, trying to keep him safe from harm.
