Chapter 8 Protect the boy

“Little master!”

“Miss Brown!”

With the sharp clank of the broken chandelier, the hotel staff yelled frantically.

At that time the broken pieces of the chandelier were scattered everywhere in the living room. Alice held Max tightly in her arms and protected him with her body. Yet, her arm was crashed under the chandelier and blood splashed everywhere, looking quite terrifying. Due to the intense pain, Alice fainted on the spot.

However, just before Alice passed out she seemed to hear Max utter faintly, “Mommy!”

Meanwhile, the rest panicked!

“Call the ambulance! Hurry up!”

“But little mater refused to let Miss Brown go! What should we do?”

“We can’t just leave him here! Just let him go to the hospital together.”

“Okay. Call Mr. Collins.”

Meanwhile, at the Snow Private Club, Zayden had just signed a business contract and was waiting for Henry to say goodbye to guests and walked them out first. He enjoyed a cup o coffee in the private room while he was waiting. This was a regular occurrence for him.

“Zayden.” Someone called out to him in a sweet voice. Hearing that, Zayden frowned.

After that, the beautiful lady entered the private room with a smile on her face and said, “It’s really you! I just finished a business negotiation. When I was about to leave, I saw Henry just now and I wondered if you are still here or not… So I just come to see!”

Zayden just nodded but he didn’t say anything.

“I went to see Grandfather a couple of days ago.” Jessica sat opposite him.

After she make sure Zayden didn’t look angry or annoyed, she continued, “Grandfather said that you had been taking care of Max alone by yourself over these years. He wondered if you are willing to let him take care of Max.”

Hearing that, Zayden’s face darkened and he said in a cold voice, “Max is safer with me. You don’t have to speak for my grandfather.”

“I am not speaking for Grandfather. I am just letting you know about what he is thinking.” Jessica explained with a smile, “Grandfather also said that it would be good to have someone care for Max. Then, you will feel more relieved when you work.”

However, before Zayden could respond, Henry rushed in frantically. “Mr. Collins…”

Henry was surprised to see Jessica.

“What?” Zayden asked.

“The hotel called and said that there was an accident in the little master’s room. The chandelier in the suit crashed down.”

Jessica’s eyes lit up for a moment when she heard it, however, she quickly covered it.

Zayden’s face darkened as he quickly stood up and asked, “Where is Max? Is he alright?”

“Don’t worry. Max is fine. A hotel staff saved him. But Max instead on going to the hospital with the staff member,” Henry reported.

Without further delay, Zayden headed for the door. Behind him, Jessica hold his jacket and ran after him and said, “Zayden, I will go with you.”

When Zayden arrived at the hospital, Alice was still lying in bed unconsciously. At that moment, his precious son Max was still in his pajamas and was drawing next to the bed.

Zayden was stunned by what he saw in front of him because he knew Max hated being with people, especially strangers.

Zayden walk over and called him softly, “Max.”

Hearing that, Max turned around and saw Zayden. He quickly ran over and raised his drawing for Zayden to see. Max could not speak and his vocabulary was limited. So if he wanted to express was too complicated, he would draw it.

The first picture was of a lady feeding a boy. The boy smiled happily.

The second picture was of a lady leading a boy out the door. Next to their heads was a cloud-like bubble with a playground inside.

The last picture was a golden chandelier that crashed. The lady protected the boy and her hand was crushed. The blood was everywhere.

“Okay…”

Max led Zayden to the bed. He pointed at Alice and then at the woman in his drawing, telling Zayden that Alice was the one who saved him.

Zayden was surprised to see Alice's pale face.

Alice? Why did she protect Max at the risk of her life? Zayden wondered with amazement. However, when he thought about the scene when he was mean to her, Zayden felt a little guilty.

Noticing Jessica, who was standing behind Zayden, Max’s face turned pale immediately. He then released Zayden’s hand and backed toward the bed.

“Max, what’s wrong?” Zayden did not see the change in Max’s eyes and thought that Max was upset with him for not taking him out and because of the accident. Then he said tenderly, “Daddy is sorry for what happened today. I guarantee you I won’t go back on my words from now on, alright?”

And yet, Max appeared reluctant and would not approach Zayden.

“Butler,” Zayden called out to the butler who had been standing by the door helplessly, “it’s late. Take Max home. He needs to rest.”

Max kept shaking his head and refused to let go of the sheet.

Zayden could not understand why and asked, “Max, what’s wrong?”

“Let me give it a try. Perhaps he was shocked by what happened today,” Jessica said. She squatted and gently patted Max’s head, asking, “Max, shall we go for dinner?”

Max shuddered and looked terrified and tried to avoid Jessica. He quickly ran behind Zayden and grabbed his leg.

“He must be terrified,” Jessica sighed and said, “Zayden, why don’t you let the butler handle things here? We will go back home to put Max to bed. It’s getting late. And Max needs to rest.”

Hesitant, Zayden spared a glance at Alice, who was lying on the bed. And then, he ordered the butler, “Make sure Miss Brown is being taken good care of in the hospital.” After that, he left the hospital holding Max’s hand.

Because Max had been exhausted, the moment Zayden helped him get into the car, he fall asleep. Later when they got home, Zayden came out of the bedroom after gently putting Max in his bed. Zayden still seemed to be upset about what happened to Max and Alice and he frowned.

Meanwhile, Jessica was still in the sitting room, when she looked at Zayden, she asked Zayden, pretending to be concerned about Max, “Is Max asleep?”

“Yes.” Zayden nodded and said, “It’s getting late, I will have the driver drive you back home.”

“No need. My driver is on the way to pick me up.” looking up at the bedroom on the second floor, Jessica continued, “Max is so young and he needs to be taken good care of when you work. Just look at what happened today. Grandfather is right, you should find someone to take care of him.

Zayden looked at her as if he was considering her suggestion.

Then Jessica plucked up her courage and asked tentatively, “Zayden, Grandpa said that you should get married. What do you think?”
