Richard

I stood there, staring down at my plate. My mind felt numb, and my body was stiff with anger. I didn’t know what to do, what to feel, or even how to react.

I glanced over at my mother.

She sat there, completely unfazed, like she hadn’t just ripped my wife apart emotionally.

Emilia was still sobbing quietly.

I could hear the soft sounds of her tears, and every one of them hit me like a slap. How could my mother do this? How could she say those things, attack the woman I loved so mercilessly?

Then, suddenly, everything went quiet. Emilia stopped crying, and I looked up just in time to see her stand. Her face was red and swollen from the tears, and her eyes were filled with pain. I could see the hurt in them, but she didn’t say a word.

"I think I’m full," she said, her voice shaky, barely a whisper. She didn’t even look at me. "I’m just gonna go to bed now," she added, turning around to leave.

I opened my mouth, about to call out to her, but the words got stuck in my throat. I

EmiliaThe moment Bae pulled the car to a stop just outside the front entrance of Kane Group, the reporters swarmed us like bees on a sugar rush.“Mrs. Kane! What is your take on the new policy?”“Is it true you're stepping down from your role?"Stepping down from my role? Who even provides these guys with their stories?“Do you still have a future at Kane Group after this?”“Why has everything changed all of a sudden?”Cameras flashed in my face like strobe lights at a rave. I blinked, disoriented, trying not to trip over myself as security came rushing toward the car, pushing bodies back like it was some red carpet situation.“What the actual hell are they talking about?” Bae muttered beside me, squinting past the windshield like she was ready to throw hands.“I have no damn idea,” I said through clenched teeth. “What new policy? What future? Why is everyone acting like I got kicked out of my own life?”Security motioned for me to exit the car. I took one last breath before pushing

EmiliaI was sitting by the window, my hand wrapped around a lukewarm cup of coffee I’d forgotten to sip. The house was quiet, eerily so. Not even a single bird chirped outside. My mind was doing that annoying thing where it kept replaying every single second of the crash — the tires, the screech, the slam. Over and over. Ugh, damn.I leaned back into the chair and closed my eyes, just to breathe for a second. That’s when I heard it.Ring ring ring.My purse vibrated on the floor beside me like it had a heartbeat of its own. I groaned, reached down, and fished out my phone. The number wasn’t saved, but it had a French country code.My heart skipped.I swiped to answer and brought the phone to my ear. “Hello?”A woman’s voice responded, polite and clipped. “Yes, hello. Am I speaking to Serena Williams?”I blinked. For a second, I almost said no out of reflex. But then I remembered. Ahh. This was part of the game.I sat up straighter, adjusted my tone, and smiled,.fake, tight, and just

EmiliaI was still lying there, the hospital gown itchy against my back, my head buzzing like someone had stuck a lawnmower in my brain. I stared at the ceiling tiles, my fingers fidgeting with the thin blanket. How the hell did my brakes fail? Just like that? Cars don’t just stop working. And that screech... it was still ringing in my ears. My chest tightened all over again. That wasn’t a mechanical hiccup. That was something else.I was still lost in thought when the door creaked open.I turned my head slightly, expecting a nurse or the doctor again, but no.Oh.Oh my God.The man who walked in looked like he’d stepped right out of some overly expensive cologne commercial. Tall, at least six-two. Brown, tousled hair that looked like it was styled effortlessly, even though I knew it wasn’t. Clear blue eyes that had no business being that bright. And a jawline that could slice diamonds. He was... absurd. He smiled as he walked closer. “Hey. You’re awake.”His voice? Yeah, unfairly smoot

Emilia“Making my way downtown… walking fast, faces pass and I’m homebound…” I sang at the top of my lungs as I cruised through the wide streets of Manhattan, windows rolled halfway down and hair bouncing lightly with every turn. “Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-dooo…”Vanessa Carlton was really doing something to my mood this morning. I wasn’t even trying to hide how off-key I sounded. I knew I was off. I didn’t care. The sky was crisp blue, traffic was surprisingly light for New York at this time, and the breeze was just right.“If I could fall… into the sky… do you think time… could pass me by?”I belted out the line, tapping my fingers against the steering wheel dramatically like I was in some sad indie movie. Then I let out a dramatic sigh and giggled. “Ugh, what a vibe.”My phone buzzed on the passenger seat, vibrating hard against the leather.“Who the hell is calling me now…” I mumbled, glancing quickly at the screen before grabbing it. The name read Jesse – Private Guy with a little dete

EmiliaI stood there, still breathing heavily, the echo of my own voice fading into the silence of the now-empty room. Broken glass crunched softly beneath my bare feet as I shifted my weight, the aftermath of the chaos littered all around, half-empty cups, lipstick-stained napkins, confetti on the rug, a pair of heels abandoned near the stairs.Serena hadn’t moved. She stood near the archway leading to the kitchen, one hand resting casually on her hip, the other holding the edge of the marble counter like she had all the time in the world. Then she began to walk.Slowly.Each step deliberate, heels clicking against the floor like little bullets, circling around me like a predator toying with its prey.“You know,” she started, her voice calm but edged with something sharp, “you should really be honest with yourself for once.”I turned my head slightly, narrowing my eyes. “What are you talking about?”Serena smiled, tight-lipped, cruel. “Richard. The distance. The coldness. You feel it
