The Contract

I'm sorry,I was just too shocked that you made such a ridiculous statement." Layla said patting her chest. His gaze was too scary.

"Don't think too much. I just want my grandfather to stop arranging blind dates for me." He said while caressing his wrist.

His eyes look deep and Layla wasn't able to read emotions from his face. He was really good at hiding his emotions.

"Fine. But I want to carry out revenge on my ex boyfriend and stepsister. I want them to suffer a fate much worse than mine." Layla said while clenching her fists.

Mike's turned to look at her and was satisfied with her attitude. Even without her saying that,he would have done it,though secretly.

He didn't want her to see him as a bad person after all she would be his wife.

Of course. Then it's a deal. After your mom's surgery, you would sign the contract. Is that fine by you?" Miles asked obviously concerned about her opinion.

"Sure. Can I go see my mom now?" Layla asked. She was really worried and at the same time excited. Worried that something would go wrong. Excited that her mom would be fine. She had conflicting emotions.

After getting out of the car, the car zoomed off

She rushed to her mom's ward and the operation was still ongoing. She prayed so hard and almost fainted due to exhaustion.

After what seemed like an eternity, the doors to the operation room was opened and her mom was taken to an hospital suite.

Layla felt confused and she stopped one of the doctors trying to clear her confusion.

"Why are you guys taking my mom to a suite? I can't afford for that type of room." Layla said.

"Don't worry. Mr. Brooks asked us to put your mom on utmost priority. The suite would be best for her recovery." The doctor said with a smile before he walked out.

Layla felt touched knowing that he cared about the recovery of her mom. But still she felt it was a waste of money. She made a mental note to ask him to shift her back to a normal ward. The day passed by with Layla watching over her mom. She slept off without knowing.

The next day.

Layla woke up and dressed her mom. She was still unconscious but the doctor had informed her that she would be awake soon.

She decided to go home to take a bit of necessities. She was going to work to ask for a 3day leave. She had not told anyone in her workplace that she would be on leave and she knew going back there spelt trouble but still she would give it a try.

She worked as a salesperson in a shopping mall. She was not really sure if her leave would be granted, the worst case, she might just be fired.

She informed the nurse hired to watch over her mom that she would be back later in the evening before leaving the hospital.

When she got to her home, she found out that all her personal belongings had been thrown out from the apartment.

"Miss Belle, why are my stuff outside? I had informed you that I would pay didn't,I? Then why do you have to throw my belongings out?" Layla questioned loudly. She didn't like the stares the other tenants were giving her.

"Your boyfriend had informed me that you both won't be living in the house anymore so why bother pay the rent. I did you a favour." She said feeling sorry but on thinking about the huge sum of money she could get from doing this job, she became more excited and rash.

"Michael!!!" Layla screamed out gritting her teeth afterwards. The people surrounding her thought she had lost her mind.

"Can't you give me an ultimatum? My mom just completed her surgery and once she's discharged from the hospital,we would have to come home. I don't want my mother to have a relapse. Please?"

Layla tried to reason with her but she was really adamant.

"How could you be so harsh? Fine I won't beg you anymore. Just know that karma is real." She said.

She hailed a taxi and packed all her belongings into the taxi. Thankfully,it was just clothes and a few utensils.

Sitting in the taxi, Layla was lost in thoughts. She really didn't know where she would go. She then brought out the card that was given to her by Kingsley.

He had told her that if she needed help, she could call him. She furrowed her eyebrows before making the call.

The conversation didn't last for long. She heaved a deep sigh of relief after the call was ended. She then gave the driver a specific direction and he nodded.

Looking at the lady in the back seat, the driver had thoughts but knowing where she was headed to,he gave up his silly thoughts.

They soon got to the gate and the driver couldn't drive in. She got a call from Kingsley who tod her someone would come to welcome her in.

She paid the fare to the driver and the driver drove off. Layla looked at the gigantic building and took a deep breath.

"Layla Smith?" She turned to the voice and a smile spread on her lips seeing who it was.

"Yes I am. How may I address you, grandpa?" Layla asked. She always had a soft spot for old people.

"I think the grandpa is good enough. Come on,let me take you in. Is that your luggage?" The grandpa asked curiously.

Layla scratched her hair feeling that her and luggage are like the black spot in this white place.

"Sure it is." She said feeling distressed.

"Let me help you with that." The grandpa said and was about to reach out to it. On seeing that, Layla frowned.

"Grandpa, you are elder to me. I don't want you to stress yourself at your age. I can carry it in and besides I'm not used to people serving me." Layla said and held the luggage.

"Alright if you say so." The grandpa said already having a good impression of the lady.

On getting inside Layla was in awe of the interior design. As someone who had loved designing since young, she could tell that the interior of the house was quite delicate but fierce at the same time. If the grandpa wasn't here, she would have run around to feel the designs but she reigned in her excitement.

"Does Miss Layla like the interior decorating of the house?" The grandpa asked seeing how her eyes shone immediately they stepped in.

"Of course. This is one of the best designs I've seen. It brings out life into the room." Layla answered instinctively as she appreciated it.

"Grandpa, who designed the layout? I must say the person is very talented." Layla asked the old man.

"Our young master!" He answered with a smile. He had never been more proud of his grandson as he was now. His future wife was praising him.

"Wow,he is really talented." Layla said.

"I will show you to your room." The grandpa said and they went upstairs.

"Freshen up and come down for lunch okay?" The grandpa said before leaving the room. Layla smiled as she looked around the room. She freshened up immediately as she still had to go to work.

"Brat, your wife-to-be is cute and obedient. I like her so much." The grandpa said as he was on a call.
