I'm sorry,I was just too shocked that you made such a ridiculous statement." Layla said patting her chest. His gaze was too scary.
"Don't think too much. I just want my grandfather to stop arranging blind dates for me." He said while caressing his wrist.
His eyes look deep and Layla wasn't able to read emotions from his face. He was really good at hiding his emotions.
"Fine. But I want to carry out revenge on my ex boyfriend and stepsister. I want them to suffer a fate much worse than mine." Layla said while clenching her fists.
Mike's turned to look at her and was satisfied with her attitude. Even without her saying that,he would have done it,though secretly.
He didn't want her to see him as a bad person after all she would be his wife.
Of course. Then it's a deal. After your mom's surgery, you would sign the contract. Is that fine by you?" Miles asked obviously concerned about her opinion.
"Sure. Can I go see my mom now?" Layla asked. She was really worried and at the same time excited. Worried that something would go wrong. Excited that her mom would be fine. She had conflicting emotions.
After getting out of the car, the car zoomed off
She rushed to her mom's ward and the operation was still ongoing. She prayed so hard and almost fainted due to exhaustion.
After what seemed like an eternity, the doors to the operation room was opened and her mom was taken to an hospital suite.
Layla felt confused and she stopped one of the doctors trying to clear her confusion.
"Why are you guys taking my mom to a suite? I can't afford for that type of room." Layla said.
"Don't worry. Mr. Brooks asked us to put your mom on utmost priority. The suite would be best for her recovery." The doctor said with a smile before he walked out.
Layla felt touched knowing that he cared about the recovery of her mom. But still she felt it was a waste of money. She made a mental note to ask him to shift her back to a normal ward. The day passed by with Layla watching over her mom. She slept off without knowing.
The next day.
Layla woke up and dressed her mom. She was still unconscious but the doctor had informed her that she would be awake soon.
She decided to go home to take a bit of necessities. She was going to work to ask for a 3day leave. She had not told anyone in her workplace that she would be on leave and she knew going back there spelt trouble but still she would give it a try.
She worked as a salesperson in a shopping mall. She was not really sure if her leave would be granted, the worst case, she might just be fired.
She informed the nurse hired to watch over her mom that she would be back later in the evening before leaving the hospital.
When she got to her home, she found out that all her personal belongings had been thrown out from the apartment.
"Miss Belle, why are my stuff outside? I had informed you that I would pay didn't,I? Then why do you have to throw my belongings out?" Layla questioned loudly. She didn't like the stares the other tenants were giving her.
"Your boyfriend had informed me that you both won't be living in the house anymore so why bother pay the rent. I did you a favour." She said feeling sorry but on thinking about the huge sum of money she could get from doing this job, she became more excited and rash.
"Michael!!!" Layla screamed out gritting her teeth afterwards. The people surrounding her thought she had lost her mind.
"Can't you give me an ultimatum? My mom just completed her surgery and once she's discharged from the hospital,we would have to come home. I don't want my mother to have a relapse. Please?"
Layla tried to reason with her but she was really adamant.
"How could you be so harsh? Fine I won't beg you anymore. Just know that karma is real." She said.
She hailed a taxi and packed all her belongings into the taxi. Thankfully,it was just clothes and a few utensils.
Sitting in the taxi, Layla was lost in thoughts. She really didn't know where she would go. She then brought out the card that was given to her by Kingsley.
He had told her that if she needed help, she could call him. She furrowed her eyebrows before making the call.
The conversation didn't last for long. She heaved a deep sigh of relief after the call was ended. She then gave the driver a specific direction and he nodded.
Looking at the lady in the back seat, the driver had thoughts but knowing where she was headed to,he gave up his silly thoughts.
They soon got to the gate and the driver couldn't drive in. She got a call from Kingsley who tod her someone would come to welcome her in.
She paid the fare to the driver and the driver drove off. Layla looked at the gigantic building and took a deep breath.
"Layla Smith?" She turned to the voice and a smile spread on her lips seeing who it was.
"Yes I am. How may I address you, grandpa?" Layla asked. She always had a soft spot for old people.
"I think the grandpa is good enough. Come on,let me take you in. Is that your luggage?" The grandpa asked curiously.
Layla scratched her hair feeling that her and luggage are like the black spot in this white place.
"Sure it is." She said feeling distressed.
"Let me help you with that." The grandpa said and was about to reach out to it. On seeing that, Layla frowned.
"Grandpa, you are elder to me. I don't want you to stress yourself at your age. I can carry it in and besides I'm not used to people serving me." Layla said and held the luggage.
"Alright if you say so." The grandpa said already having a good impression of the lady.
On getting inside Layla was in awe of the interior design. As someone who had loved designing since young, she could tell that the interior of the house was quite delicate but fierce at the same time. If the grandpa wasn't here, she would have run around to feel the designs but she reigned in her excitement.
"Does Miss Layla like the interior decorating of the house?" The grandpa asked seeing how her eyes shone immediately they stepped in.
"Of course. This is one of the best designs I've seen. It brings out life into the room." Layla answered instinctively as she appreciated it.
"Grandpa, who designed the layout? I must say the person is very talented." Layla asked the old man.
"Our young master!" He answered with a smile. He had never been more proud of his grandson as he was now. His future wife was praising him.
"Wow,he is really talented." Layla said.
"I will show you to your room." The grandpa said and they went upstairs.
"Freshen up and come down for lunch okay?" The grandpa said before leaving the room. Layla smiled as she looked around the room. She freshened up immediately as she still had to go to work.
"Brat, your wife-to-be is cute and obedient. I like her so much." The grandpa said as he was on a call.
Grandpa please do not tell me that after my warnings, you still decided to act as my butler?" Miles asked as he rubbed his head. He was already tired as it was and thinking of the stunt his grandpa just pulled,he felt really exhausted."Whatever,I like her. So when are you going to get married to her?" Grandpa Brooks asked with a gossipy tone."Soon grandpa." He said and hung up. He rubbed his head and called his assistant in. They were about to have a serious conversation."Buy that apartment under Layla's name." He said to his assistant with a calculating look. They had humiliated one of his people so he has to give them a taste of their own medicine."Sure thing boss." Kingsley responded."Miss Layla's superior has plans to fire her, what should I do boss?" Kingsley asked."You are really asking that question. You don't know what to do or should I remind you what is to be done?" Miles asked and Kingsley left the office immediately. He didn't want to be on the receiving end of the bos
If the blade comes in contact with her face, her mother would be heartbroken."Why are you denying it? Do you think he would protect a slut like you when he can't even protect himself? He had confessed to it himself." The woman mocked hellbent on destroying her face.Layla turned to look at the manager in despair. So he could actually do something like that. Is this payback for not accepting his proposal? Layla felt different emotions swirling within her. She wished that Miles could appear and save her from such humiliation. The others were busy making fun of her as they all glanced at her with disdain. They hated her and were quite happy with the way she was treated. None of them came to her rescue as they placated other customers. The customers gave Layla a dirty look as the woman dragged her out. The manager on the other hand, gave her a knowing look."Stop!!" An authoritative voice resounded throughout the building. The woman subconsciously stopped and Layla turned to look at her s
"That's not me!!" She subconsciously blurted out. "I know it's not you,I know the goal of the sender was to make me agitated and unfortunately,I fell into it," her mother,Kelly said calmly. She closed her eyes as she sighed out before saying, "you may leave,I want to be alone." "Mom," she whispered and Miles shook his head at her. "It's best we let her be for now, let's go I will take you home," he said as he pulled the dazed Layla out. Miles turned to look at the woman on the hospital bed with a deep look. She was definitely hiding something. He could feel it and he would find out what it was. His instincts were always right so they wouldn't be wrong in this. "You have helped me so much," Layla muttered tiredly as she sat on the bench in the hospital's corridor. She decided to wait for a while before she would head home. "It's my duty, after all, I'm your future husband, aren't I?" He asked with a smirk dancing on his lips and she chuckled. He secretly heaved a sigh of relief
Chapter 6"Everyone who have wronged you, I promise to deal with them, just stay with me, please," he said in an hushed voice before he left the room.Next morning, Layla woke up feeling quite refreshed. This was the first time in years she had a good night sleep. She woke up feeling really radiated. It was obvious she was in a good mood with the way she hummed and danced round her room. Her day was destined to turn sour as she received a call from her father. She hissed as she ignored the call, she didn't want anything to do with that family. Her father called for a while before the call got disconnected. She glanced at her phone with disgust as though it was Arthur she was staring at.She did her morning routine and decided to head downstairs. She wanted to have breakfast as she was starving."Good morning grandpa,I hope you had a good night rest?" She asked with a bright look and grandpa Brooks felt more energized seeing her."I had a wonderful night rest, thanks for asking," he sai
Chapter 7"Boss Chad, have we made a mistake? Did we come to the right place?" A guy who had initially looked down on Layla said as he tried to wipe off his sweat."I don't think so,this is the address boss gave us,this miss Layla is definitely not simple," Chad analysed to them and they couldn't help but take a deep breath. They had definitely made a mistake."Wow," one of them said as he took a deep breath in shakily. He was done for. He had underestimated his future mistress.___Living Room"Where are my mother's momentos?" Layla asked with her frosty eyes. She was looking really angry right now as she glared daggers at them."We would get it,Ella,go get it," Arthur said to the frightened Ella."Yes father," she replied before scurrying away. Layla's look previously was really scary and she didn't want to be on the receiving end of it. On a normal day,she would not have gave in but recalling the way Layla beat up those bodyguards, she still felt a shiver run down a spine. In simpl
At the mention of Michael, Ella's face revealed a blissful smile. Arthur confirmed that they had a good relationship and the smile on his face became more evident."We have got to prepare, Michael is an esteemed guest so we can't have any slip ups," Arthur said as he began instructing Beatrice on things she had to."Alright,I have something to do in the study,I would retire to my study," Arthur said as he left the living room swiftly."Mom I'm so happy, everything is falling into place now," Ella said with visible bliss. She was really excited."Why are you foolish?" Beatrice asked with disdain. She didn't understand why her daughter was happy when they had more pressing issues to deal with."What do you mean mom?" Ella asked with confusion."You are such a silly girl, you are the only one who would be happy in such a situation, can't you see that we can't control Layla anymore, she has her mother's momentos," Beatrice snapped as she glared at her daughter.Sometimes, she wondered if the
"Blood clot?" He asked in surprised. "Hmm and it had been there even before I was born," she said with a sad laugh. "I would be there soon,do not do anything stupid, wait for me, everything would be alright," he said and hung up the call. Looking at the darkened phone, she let out a small smile. It had not been long since they knew each other, but he had clearly made enough sacrifices for her. Even if she had other thoughts about this marriage, his actions were enough to make her waver. She arranged her emotions before going into her mother's ward. "Mom, I'm here to see you," she said to the woman who smiled lightly at her. Layla felt her heart break on seeing how happy she was but she couldn't show her emotions or her mom would figure out that something was wrong. "I was thinking you wouldn't come, I'm sorry I overreacted the previous day," Kelly apologized once she saw her daughter. "Mom..," she wanted to tell her that it wasn't necessary but Kelly interrupted her. "I know what
"I'm just worried about my mom,I know I should be optimistic but I can't help but think about it, I'm worried," she said in an hoarse voice. "Everything would be alright, I'm here, you need not worry," he assured her and she gave him a smile which caused his heart to skip a bit. "I know I can't count on you,not knowing when this happened but I know you would always have my back," she said and her words earned a smile from him. He felt that her words were much more better than signing contracts worth billions of dollars. It was worth it for him to push all his work or else,he might not have heard these words. "By the way,are you done with your work? I hope it wasn't because of me you flew all the way here?" She asked already feeling guilty. He could sense that she was feeling guilty,so to put her heart at ease,he said, "I had already completed my work,I only left the follow-up to my assistant." She only breath a sigh of relief after she heard his words. "I would go home to have a
