But I couldn't believe it was all an act when I saw Cassian's jaw tighten in annoyance. I couldn't meet his angry gaze.

"Did you plan to embarrass me in front of everyone like I did to you?" he whispered in my ear.

I hadn't expected Cassian to try to humiliate me in front of the guests. That's why he had been late. I felt humiliated.

"That's not what I was trying to do, believe me," I replied. His gaze felt like daggers, ready to cut me down.

"Why did my father agree to this marriage? What did you do?" he demanded, his anger palpable.

I tried to act normal in front of the guests, until Cassian and I got into the black limousine. I was filled with dread. His anger was clear.

"Darn it!" he cursed.

I stayed silent. I was scared of him. He was so angry. I stared out the window of the limousine, my heart pounding with anxiety.

After a few hours of driving, we arrived at our destination. I was in awe of the massive house.

"Is this your house?" I asked, unable to believe my eyes.

Cassian didn't answer. I felt a twinge of annoyance at his silence.

I decided to stay quiet. We were greeted by a number of staff. They welcomed us with smiles, which felt nice after the tiring journey.

"Hello, Mrs. Smith, I'm Celestina, the butler."

I smiled back at her. "Nice to meet you, Celestina."

"The pleasure is mine, ma'am."

"Celestina, please show her to her private room," Cassian ordered, his voice authoritative.

Looking around, I could see the fear in the eyes of the household staff. It was clear that they were afraid of upsetting Cassian, whose temper was infamous.

Celestina led me to my room, and I was grateful for her company. The day had been long and tiring, and I needed some rest. As we walked down the hall, I couldn't help but notice the grandeur of the surroundings. The detailed tapestries on the walls, the plush carpets under our feet, and the ornate chandeliers overhead all spoke of a life of luxury.

When we reached my room, Celestina opened the door and ushered me in. The room was as lavish as the rest of the house, with a large four-poster bed and a grand fireplace. As I sank into the soft mattress, I felt a sense of gratitude. Despite Cassian's temper, I knew I was fortunate to be living in such comfort.

"Thank you," I said to Celestina.

"My pleasure, madam," she replied with a smile.

I decided to lie down on the king-sized bed. I closed my eyes and before I knew it, I had fallen asleep.

When I woke up, I felt refreshed and ready to face whatever the day had in store. I stretched, feeling the tension in my muscles ease. Looking around the room, I was struck by its luxury. The walls were painted a soft blue, the curtains had intricate designs, and the furniture was made of polished wood.

I got out of bed and walked over to the window. Pulling back the curtains, I let in the sunlight. The view was of a beautiful garden full of vibrant flowers. It was a breathtaking sight that left me in awe.

Just as I was about to leave the room, Celestina came in with a tray of breakfast. She set it down on a table by the window and asked if I needed anything else. Her kindness was touching.

I thanked her and sat down to eat, appreciating this moment of calm amidst the recent chaos.

I found myself wondering if Cassian was awake yet. I wasn't sure what my life would be like with him, but I knew I had to do whatever it took for my sick mother. I decided to talk to Cassian later, hoping he would agree to let my mom stay here.

After breakfast, I left my room to wash the dishes. But before I could reach the kitchen, I heard Cassian's raised voice. Curious, I decided to see what was happening.

In the living room, I found him talking to one of his employees, who was bowing and apologizing.

"Cassian, he's apologized. Can't you forgive him?" I asked gently.

"Who are you to interfere? You have no right to question my decisions. Understand?" His words were harsh, and I felt a wave of fear and embarrassment.

"Do you think you can help me?" he snapped, his eyes full of anger.

The tension was palpable, and I struggled to keep my composure. Despite his intimidating demeanor, I knew I needed to try to help him.

"I'll do my best," I said, trying to sound confident.

"Your best? That's not good enough. If you want to help me, you need to be better than your best," he retorted.

"Okay," I responded, swallowing hard. "I'll be better than my best."

Cassian studied me for a moment, his gaze intense. I met his eyes, refusing to back down.

After a few tense seconds, he finally broke the silence. "Well, I should probably get going," he said, turning to leave.

As he walked away, I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. His presence was intense, and it left me feeling a little shaken. But I was determined not to let him see that.

"Is everything alright, ma'am?" Celestina asked, appearing by my side.

I gave her a small smile. "Yes, everything's fine. Thank you, Celestina."

She nodded, looking relieved, and went back to her duties. I took a moment to gather my thoughts before heading back to my room. I needed to prepare myself for the conversation I was going to have with Cassian about my mother.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, I thought about how to approach the subject. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but it was necessary. After a while, I decided it was best to be direct and honest.

With a newfound resolve, I got up and made my way towards Cassian's office. I knocked lightly on the door and waited for his response.

"Come in," he said, his voice sounding less harsh than before.

I took a deep breath and opened the door. "Cassian, we need to talk," I said, stepping into the room.

He looked up from his paperwork, his expression unreadable. "About what?" he asked, leaning back in his chair.

"About my mother," I replied, meeting his gaze. "I think she should come to live here with us."

His eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he didn't say anything. I took that as a sign to continue.

"She's sick, Cassian. And she needs to be in a place where she can be properly taken care of. I believe this house, with all its facilities, would be the best place for her."

There was a long silence as Cassian considered my words. I waited, hoping he would understand and agree to my request.

The doctor finally released me to go home after a day in the hospital. She emphasized the importance of avoiding stress, as it was the trigger for my fainting spell. Mom and Celestina were there to help me settle back in."It's good to have you home," Celestina said."Cassian?" I asked."Mr. Smith hasn't been home for a few days, ma'am," Celestina replied.Mom and I exchanged a worried look. "Let Cassian be," Mom said.I sighed deeply. We slowly walked up the grand staircase of the house."Take it slow," Mom reminded me. It felt strange. Knowing Cassian was gone brought a wave of sadness."Mom, can you find out where Cassian is? I'm really worried about him," I confessed.Mom stared at me intently. "Don't tell me you're falling for Cassian?" Her eyes widened with surprise."I don't know, Mom. Maybe it's just guilt. It's not easy to ruin Cassian's reputation and the Delaware company because of someone like me, someone so careless.""Don't say that. It's me who's hurting, Eli. Remember,

I tried to contact the stranger's number but was surprised when it suddenly went out of coverage area.I just stared at my phone in dismay, but my heart suddenly beat faster when Mom called.I took a deep breath before answering her call. "Mom, did you call?""Is what's on the news true, Eli?" I could hear the intense worry in my mother's voice.I glanced at the time and decided to go home first. I'll probably just take a taxi home since Cassian isn't in the mood today because of the big mess I'm in. I'm wondering what Mr. Robert is thinking about me. I have no face to show him."Let's talk, Mom. Wait for me there, okay?" I answered and quickly hung up the call.I didn't need to wait for Cassian because I know I'm nothing to him anymore because of the huge damage I've done. The question is, who was the scoundrel who leaked that video footage? I thought about it and suddenly the woman who was ranting earlier came to my mind, did she have something to do with it?Even though I was a lit

After our meeting with Mr. Cheng, Cassian and I went back to his office at the Delaware building.“Thank you. You’ve really proven yourself worthy of being my secretary,” Cassian said.I was surprised to hear him compliment me.“Thank you,” I replied, unable to make eye contact.Cassian’s serious demeanor returned, making me feel a bit awkward. I watched as he walked into his office.Back in my own office, I had a stack of work to catch up on. I sat down, leaned back in my chair, and sighed deeply. Then the phone started ringing – one call after another.I looked up and saw a tall, attractive woman walking towards my office. The glass door allowed me to see everything. She knocked before entering.“Yes, come in, ma’am,” I said.“Thank you,” she replied, pushing the door open. I noticed her eyebrow raise as she glanced at me.“You must be the gold-digger secretary of Mr. Roberto Smith,” she said, with a hint of disgust in her voice. “Now you’re Cassian’s secretary and wife? I can’t bel

"I don't know," I said, responding to Stella's question."By the way, I need to head out soon. I have to be at the other branch. Here, this is for you and Aunt Ezra," she said, handing me a gift."You really didn't have to go through the trouble," I replied, touched by her gesture."I wanted to make sure I gave this to you in person. I thought you might have forgotten about me," Stella said, her voice tinged with a hint of playful annoyance."I'm sorry, you know I'm always busy being my husband's secretary," I explained. She sighed, "How are you doing with your husband?""It's okay. I'll be honest, I had a hard time adjusting to Cassian's unpredictable personality at first.""I'm not surprised. He's known for being grumpy and hot-tempered," Stella said, nodding in agreement."Yes, but thankfully, I've adjusted. After all this time with him, I've actually discovered some good sides of him that others don't know," I shared."That's how it is, you can't really know someone unless you spe

I've been staring at my phone, unsure whether to call the stranger or not.Thankfully, Cassian let me work.I finally decided to call, the stranger. The other line picked up after a long wait."You called?" a deep voice asked."Yes, I wanted to meet you. I have something to tell you."Looking at the clock, I realized it was already 11:30, time for lunch.I heard the intercom just as I accidentally hung up. Then I heard Cassian's voice."In my office," he said. From my swivel chair, I stood up and headed to Cassian's office. We'd made a habit of eating lunch together in his office.I knocked before entering. "Come in."I opened the door and smiled. Cassian seemed different lately. Before, he was so aloof, but now he seemed kind.I found Cassian on the phone, engrossed in a conversation."You're on the phone," I remarked."It's the woman who caught my eye last month. She wants to meet, and I'm excited to see her."My brow furrowed. That was exactly what I'd planned to do with the strang

I slowly opened my eyes, disoriented by the unfamiliar surroundings."Good, you're awake," Cassian said, his voice deep and reassuring. My brows furrowed as I searched for the source of the voice, and our eyes met."You're pregnant," he stated, his expression serious.I quickly averted my gaze, feeling a wave of shame. "I'm so sorry.""You don't have to apologize. I know your ex-boyfriend is the father of the child you're carrying.""The truth— ""Please, just rest for now. Try not to think about anything stressful, it can affect the baby. That's what the doctor told me. I also bought some vitamins for you." Cassian interrupted, cutting me off."Aren't you angry with me?" I asked, my voice laced with fear."Why would I be angry?" he replied, his tone steady."Because I'm pregnant.""Come on, Eli. We're going to get a divorce after two years anyway, so what's the problem? I'll be the father of your child since we're married. We'll pretend I'm the father of the baby you're carrying."I
