Mag-log inTears brimmed in Selene's eyes.
What had she done? She was devastated at how she would explain this to her boyfriend. She had promised to stay a virgin till she and Liam got married. Even Liam knew this, and now this had happened, she lost her virginity to a total stranger. How was she going to tell him now? A feeling of frustration settled in her heart. Liam had loved her since junior grade. When her stepmother used to make life overly miserable for her, Liam was always there to console her. The only pleasant memory she ever had since her mother passed on and her father remarried was that of her and Liam. Her little brother was her playmate and relief mate too but he was sick and glued to a hospital bed now. Her cries intensified as the thoughts of Liam's expression when she would tell him gnawed at her heart. Liam doesn't deserve this. He doesn't deserve to go through any heartbreak, he was the most amazing person she had in her life. The one who stood by her through everything. Sometimes he also gave her money to add to and support his little brother at the hospital. Selene couldn't afford to lose him, he was her everything. She sniffed in as she approached their gate. Her thoughts still far and her heart saddened, then she heard her stepmother. "Whore!" Selene spun around to see her stepmom raging towards her with so much anger and bitterness. "How dare you come back here after sleeping out last night??" Selene was quiet, she had a lot going on in her mind to banter with her this morning. Just then her sister came out. "And you dare anger Mr Clinton yesterday? The CEO of MM?" Selene bit on her lower lip. She didn't mean for any of these things to happen. Mr Clinton was a monster, even the drink, she realized she wasn't the one who had spilled it, and it was only a bait to get her. She wasn't remorseful for the bottle she had smashed on his head, that was her self-defense. If not she'd have been more devastated than she was feeling now. But she would never forgive Mr Clinton for what he did to her yesterday. Making her commit this grave mistake. "How dare you keep mute on us!" Mrs Sarah sent a resounding slap to her face. Selene held her hurting cheeks. "Mother." She whispered. "Tell me where you get the nerve to anger the CEO of MM Corporation? You slut!" She thundered. "You don't even know what happened to me yesterday," Selene said through tears, her voice shaky. "Mr Clinton tried to sleep with me!" She voiced but their expression remained indifferent. "What was the big deal about that?" Sarah muttered. She knew she hated her so much but she never believed it could be up to this point. "Mother, he tried to force himself on me!" She muttered one more time to be sure she heard her. "Why didn't you let him? I mean you're already a whore, what's the big deal letting Mr Clinton do it? Now they've fired you." She patted bitterly while Anna smirked. Selene felt shock run through her blood, her eyes opened wide as pain flickered through them. She never believed she could say such disgusting things to her. Selene already had an ounce they were going to fire her, but how could they have truly fired her? She didn't even do anything wrong. How would she get her brother's hospital bills now? "No they can't do that, Mr Clinton was the one at fault, I need to get Jason's bills covered." If she doesn't do this work, her stepmother would stop Jason's treatment. "Your boss just called and terminated your contract." Selene's tears only intensified. She had no problems if it was her, but her brother was involved, he needed this money, he needed his treatment. "What about Jason?" "That's your fault, just know you killed your brother!" Sarah spat. More tears blinded Selene's eyes, this was not happening, her brother must not die, someone needed to save her brother, she wailed deeply. Just then, a sly smile appeared on Sarah's lips. "There's only one way to continue your brother's treatment." Selene snapped her head up to her, she'd do anything, anything at all to save her brother's life. "Get married." She muttered. Selene's eyes flashed with confusion. She and Liam weren't ready yet. "Get married to the abandoned son of the Yates group." Sudden gasp eloped from Selene’s lungs "That's the only way to keep your little Jason alive." "But I have a boyfriend, what do you want me to do with him?" "Boyfriend?" Anna smirked. "You think Liam loves you? You're such a joker" Selene had her forehead creased, what was Anna talking about? Selene and Liam had been together for years and everyone knew this. "We are dating to be married soon, and Liam, loves me not you." Anna spat, not without a smirk. "Liam is my boyfriend. I don't know what you're talking about." Selene defended, but Anna shook her head and laughed out loud. "What if I tell you, I'm expecting his baby?" she rubbed her stomach. What was going on? Selene's eyes darted around to be sure if this was a dream. Liam she knew would never do such a thing to her, he would never cheat on her with her own sister. Liam was not like that. "You still think I'm lying? Do you need me to give you proof?" Anna voiced, getting angry now at why she was finding it hard to believe her. So what if Liam chose Selene first? But now he had chosen her so what was hard to believe. "I'll give you proof now." Anna brought out her phone and began dialing a number. After a few rings, he picked up and Anna placed it on loudspeaker to everyone's hearing. "Hello, Babe.." Anna muttered, her voice soft and delicate. "I'm busy why did you call?" That was Liam's voice, he sounded cold and aloof. Selene felt a sharp pain crush through her chest, she could never mistake Liam's voice. Anna was right. Selene never believed Liam could ever betray her like this. She had loved him with the whole of her heart, Liam had done the same, at least so she thought, how could he have deceived her for so long? "I just want to tell you, that the doctor called earlier and said I should come for a check-up later." Anna continued, making sure Selene got every bit of it. "Okay, you should go then." Liam sounded a bit off and uninterested but Anna tried everything within her to mask it up. "You're coming with me right baby, our child needs you too?"She muttered. This stung Selene hard, her hand shook, Liam cheated on her and they were even expecting a baby. Even if Liam was going to cheat on her, he didn't even respect her enough to use protection and why did it have to be her sister? The investigation team did not take long to track down Desmond Roland. By Tuesday morning, Lucas’s head investigator sent a pinned location to the private security team. Desmond was hiding out at an old truck garage on the industrial outskirts of the city.Inside the dim, oil-stained garage, Desmond was standing near the back of a disassembled semi-truck. He was wrapping up a conversation with three strangers. They were speaking in low tones, exchanging small slips of paper. Desmond looked older, his face rough from years on the streets, but he still wore the same dirty leather jacket from his old neighborhood days."Look, just get the cash ready by Thursday," Desmond told the tallest man, wiping some stains off his hands with a rag. "I don't like waiting around."Before the man could answer, the heavy metal side doors of the garage kicked open with a loud bang.Six of Lucas Yates’s private security guards rushed into the space. They were dressed in plain black tactical gear, moving w
The luxury lounge was still full of soft music and the sound of people clinking glasses, but for Judith Sterling, everything had gone cold. She sat at the table, staring at the pile of cash Fred had thrown at her. It was more money than most people earned in a month, but it felt heavy and shameful in her purse. It was the price of her pride, the final payment for a relationship that had just ended in front of everyone. With shaking hands, she put the money away and stood up. Her head felt a bit dizzy from the drinks, but the pain of being rejected made her realize she had no other choice. She walked out of the lounge and called for a taxi. When the car pulled up to the front of the Sterling Manor, Judith’s heart sank. The big gates were wide open, and the driveway was messy with scraps of paper and dust. Leonard was standing there, looking smaller and more tired than she had ever seen him. He was surrounded by four large suitcases that looked much too heavy for him to carry alone.Jud
Leonard hung up and immediately called his sister, Judith. He needed a way to get his bags to Ophelia’s apartment, and he didn't even have enough money to pay for a taxi or a van."Judith, I need a favor," Leonard said quickly. "I’m out. The house is gone. I need you to tell your boyfriend, Fred, to bring his car. I have several large suitcases and some things I couldn't leave behind. I need him to pick me up right now and take me to Ophelia’s."At that moment, Judith Sterling was sitting in a very expensive lounge. She was already having her second drink, and she was feeling a bit dizzy. Fred Thompson sat across from her, looking bored and annoyed with their date.Judith put her phone down and looked at Fred with a careless smile. "Hey, babe. That was Leonard. He is in trouble. He needs you to drive to the house and pick him and his bags up. He is moving into Ophelia’s place for a bit."Fred’s eyes became narrow, and he put his glass down on the table very hard. The nice feeling of t
The weekend had passed in a heavy, quiet way. For several days, the private investigation team had been working day and night. They were busy tracing the life of Desmond Roland through old police records and small neighborhood bars. Lucas stayed close to his computer, his mind constantly thinking about the best time to tell the truth. He knew this secret would take away everything Serah had stolen. Every time he looked at the DNA report, he felt a strong, protective love for Selene. He wasn't just holding a piece of paper, he was holding the key to her peace. But another Monday had arrived, bringing the weight of the Yates family’s future with it. The morning sun moved across Lucas’s desk, lighting up the thick stack of papers bound in dark blue leather. These were the final terms for the Kimberlite Experience, the big project that would join the Yates name with the famous Jameson family.Lucas stood by the window, looking at his reflection. He felt a deep sweetness in his heart knowi
The night was very quiet, but inside Lucas’s office, the air felt heavy with secrets. He had been sitting in the same spot for nearly an hour, his eyes fixed on the glow of his computer screen. Just as he was about to finish for the night, a new message flashed on the screen from his investigation team. It was marked... URGENT.Lucas clicked it open. His heart started to beat faster as he read the first few lines. The investigators had moved past Serah’s school years and into her early twenties. They had found an old medical record from a small clinic that had been closed down years ago.The document was a DNA report that had been hidden in a private file for a very long time. It was never meant to be seen by the Henry family. Lucas felt a cold shock as he looked at the names on the paper. The report stated very clearly that Anna was not the biological child of Selene's father, Edward Henry.Lucas leaned closer to the screen, his mind racing. If Edward wasn't her father, then who was?
The evening sun dipped low over the California coast, painting the sky in warm, gentle colors as the day began to fade. Inside the penthouse, the air was still and calm. Selene had finally finished the last of the papers for the Jameson partnership and was resting on the sofa, watching the waves through the large glass windows. Lucas, however, was still in his office. He had the door closed, and the only light in the room came from his computer screen. He clicked on the secret file his investigation team had just sent. He felt a deep, protective love for Selene; he was doing this to protect her heart and her future, making sure she would always be safe from those who meant her harm. The file opened to show old documents from thirty years ago. They were from a small, quiet town where Serah had grown up. The first page was an old school record, but it wasn't the grades that caught Lucas's eye. It was a formal letter from the school leaders. As Lucas read, his face became very serious. T
The invitation didn’t arrive on the thick, expensive stationery of the Thorne estate. It was a jagged scrap of paper, handed to Selene by James in the grey blur of 5:00 AM. It had only four words, written in a heavy, aggressive scrawl she knew by heart... Jetty 17. Now. Alone.Selene drove herself.
The interior of Julian Vane’s sleek Maybach was silent, save for the hum of the tires against the asphalt as they sped away from the Yates Tower. Selene sat in the plush leather seat, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. She could still feel the phantom heat of Lucas’s gaze on her skin, a lingerin
The ride back to the Thorne estate was a nightmare of silence. Selene sat in the back of the Sterling SUV, her skin still buzzing from where Lucas had held her. She felt like a marked woman. Jason was watching her from the front seat, his eyes cold in the rearview mirror. He didn't know about the s
Inside the high-tech command center of Yates Tower, the walls were covered in glowing blue screens. Selene stood wrapped in a thick, dry blanket Lucas had thrown over her shoulders. She looked pale and small against the massive technology, her eyes fixed on a single red dot moving across a digital
