A step closer

Dressed for an unknown event she had no idea of, Tabitha left her room with the maids sent by her mother.

As she started moving, she realized how weak she was; every step felt heavy. Her stomach growled continuously, and a slight dizziness overcame her.

Tabitha knew why she felt this way.

Setting aside the physical and mental exhaustion she had yet to recover from, the day-long deprivation of food further weakened her. Tabitha knew she needed sustenance for strength, but she was determined not to accept food from her enemies.

All she could do was endure and prepare for whatever came next.

Tabitha encountered her family in the living room, engaged in discussion. She had no idea about their topics, nor did she care.

Standing weakly, struggling to keep her feet steady and avoid falling, Tabitha noticed one of the maids who had escorted her from her room approaching her mother.

Though unaware of the maid's intentions, Tabitha was almost certain it concerned her.
