‎Archiver had just arrived at his office when his secetary called him informing about his schedule for tomorrow.

‎Tomorrow an architect from a Australia is here to present the floor plan for the branch that will be built by another company under Montenegro Inc.,

‎The Montenegro Cruise Shipping Lines.

‎Carson Inc. will supply them with the design of the building for the newly build cruise ships. Some cruise ships will also be made here which will be their project for the whole year. That's why after executing the plan for the new branch, he immediatly called a meeting.

‎His friend Drake, suggested the Carson Architectural Planning Inc. Although he knew a lot of other business, his friend Jaxzon Miller suggested Carson .

‎ They are professional and the design of the buildings that are posted on their social page and website were really beautiful. So he accepted the friend's suggestion even though he wondered why he knew someone working in such companies.

‎That same day, they were able to have a drink together as friends after he did the work in the office. It's his usual day routine to spend on.

‎Drake, Lander and Timothy are one of his college friends. They were on the business course and same section during college days' so they were always together. Drake got married to Mavie after four years of dating. And now they will have a baby a few months from now. While Lander and Timothy are still single.

‎Him? he's single since he failed his marriage two years ago.

‎He met Roxanne, one of Mavies's friends during college.

‎Mavie as drake girlfriend he knows her and sometimes she hungs out with us; through mavie that he knows Roxanne had a crush on him.

‎It was during intramurals where they first met.

‎ He finds her cute.

‎Since that day, they started talking to each other until they decided to level up their game into a couple.

‎ He loves Roxanne. He believes and he knows.

‎ So also he soon asked Roxanne to marry him after two years of dating. Nana Trinidad, his grandmother really likes her. That's what he always tells him, that's why he's proud of Roxanne. His parents like her too for him so when he asked the girl to marry him they were very supportive for each other. There's nothing else he could wish.

‎They got married.

‎They are happy.

‎But as time went on he realized something. He realizes that something is missing in his life, something that Roxanne's love cannot fill but only his own. He admits that while he and Roxanne were together, he lost his love for her, so the girl thought he had a woman.

‎Until the rumor came out that he had a relationship with Ella, one of Roxanne's friends who is now no longer in her life.

‎She got furious. She was crying in front of him while explaining to him the pain in her chest.

‎And he understands that, but he did nothing. And that is one of the stupidest things he did as a man. Doing nothing even when you see the woman you love is hurting.

‎He doesn't want to hurt her anymore so he decided to file a divorce that broke Roxanne's heart

‎into pieces. When he saw that, it was as if something pushed him to hug Roxanne and ask for the things he had done wrong. But he needs to do it right. He couldn't abuse Roxanne's love for him that's why he left.

‎He left in a way that broke Roxanne's will.

‎"Dude, What are you thinking?" Drake ask and then drank the wine that was in the glass.

‎He didn't speak. When they find out he's thinking about Roxanne, he's sure they will hit him hard.

‎Roxanne's friends and his friends are also friends. Technically, they have one circle of friends' so they all know the life that happens there. When Archive broke up with Roxanne they almost fell apart especially when he received a few slaps from her best friend Lira.

‎It's a given that they will be angry with him because he hurt the one and only woman he promised to love for life.

‎"He's thinking about work," said Lander, who looked like he had just come from work and was heading straight for a drink.

‎"Maybe it's a girl," laughed Drake. he just shook his head.

‎He didn't really think about anything. In fact, it's just looking back at what happened with Roxanne that she will never tell her friends, especially Drake who is married to her ex-wife's friend. maybe later it will really kill him.

‎"How are you and Ella?" asked Timothy. He let out a sigh before looking at his friend and shaking his head.

‎"Ella and I don't have a relationship, if that's what you're thinking," he replied seriously.

‎Before he divorced Roxanne, Ella confessed that she's in love with him. But he just can't reciprocate that love. He only thinks of Ella as a friend no matter what happens.

‎Because of that confession, Roxanne got mad. She thinks that she and her best friend have a relationship because of their closeness when in fact, he's just treating Ella as a friend.

‎But he admits that Ella is one of the reasons why he and Roxanne broke up. He knew that he felt something for her that isn't clear that's why he and Roxanne's life is in chaos. But that thing, he can't blame Ella because after all, if he didn't want to, he could have avoided it but he didn't.

‎He was such an idiot.

‎"Are you just telling us that because you don't want us to think you're stupid or is there some other reason?" Lander asked him. He shook his head again.

‎"Nothing. Ella is just a little sister to me," he insisted. Until now there are things he still can't tell his friends, especially he and Ella. He's not afraid of being beaten just in case. For him, it is enough for him to know those things and there is no need to tell them.

‎"What about Roxanne? if you only see Ella as a sister, why did you divorce Roxanne?" Drake asked her seriously.

‎The truth is Ella is special to him. Maybe that's also the reason why he felt something different about Ella then that Roxanne saw.

‎He didn't believe what Roxanne was saying. She said she was just sending her thoughts but she knew herself what her husband was saying. He just ignores her because he doesn't want to increase the mess that is already messed up because of the two of them.

‎"If I liked Ella, I would have punished her a long time ago but I didn't."That's true. He can't deny the fact that Ella is a beautiful woman. Many men are crazy about her beauty and she will not be impressed. He would courted Ella if he had feelings for her but he didn't. And besides, he respects Ella. He will never do that kind of thing to her knowing that she's the best friend of his ex-wife. He still has some respect left for himself even though he is a fool.

‎"I agree with Arch" Timothy answered them. "Ella is indeed a beautiful woman. But I will never like her more than a friend. I still have respect for myself," he insisted.

‎ He felt like he's lying in front of his friends right now but what he has with Ella isn't something that he could call a relationship. So he can't even tell his friends the truth.

‎"What are you planning now? Does Nana Tinda already know what happened to you and Roxanne?" Drake asked again.

‎Trinidad Montenegro is his grandmother on the mother's side. Trinidad or known as Nana Tinda is very fond of Roxanne. He still remembers how she became a cupid between the two of them. Athough they were already dating that time.

‎After they got home from the wedding, he also remembered that she cried because she was so happy because they were now tie the not, which she always dreamed about. After the night of their wedding, his Iola traveled to the province to live there with his grandfather. So Nana Tinda didn't know about him divorcing his wife.

‎He was also unable to tell her that they had been separated for a long time because he was afraid that she may have a heart attack if he tell her about their separation.

‎Lola Tinda is very special to him. She's a second mother to him and he cannot deny the fact that he loves his Nana so much. If there was one thing he was going to protect, it was none other than his Nana.

‎"l don't know. I hate lying but she will definitely be sad when she finds out the truth"he replied to his friends.

‎His friends understand him very well and he's lucky to have them. Even though he is stupid, he is still able to understand them like his Grandmother.

‎"Just be careful bro.I'm sure if Nana Tinda finds out what happened to you and you lied to her, she'll definitely be upset," Timothy answered him. He nodded to his friend because that's exactly might happen.

‎"Enough with Ella and Roxanne's thingy. Let's talk about business," said Lander as if there was a new proposal to their mutual friends. He just shook his head. He just wanted to sleep and rest.

‎Archive went to work early because the representative of Carson Architectural Inc. he's not a morning person. He hates going to work before 8 am in the morning. If he is the only one to follow, he will meet the representative of CAI in the afternoon but they insisted that the meeting should be done by morning so that it ends early.

‎ They both agreed on the schedule but actually he wanted to move it to the afternoon.

‎After a while, his secretary who was on the way called him about this certain Ms. McBeal. He frowned slightly when he heard her last name. He immediately put that idea in his brain because it might just be a coincidence that McBeal is also the last name of the CAI representative. And one more thing, they haven't seen his ex-wife for several years. He went to the board room because that's where the meeting was going to be held. After a while the door opened at the same time, he turned around and followed the familiar woman who entered the room.

‎He could clearly see the shock on her face, that even he probably didn't expect them to meet after the complicated things that happened in their relationship.

‎He looked at the woman in front of him. She's wearing a white shirt and black long-sleeve on her top. He accompanied that with black slacks and high heels. On her right she carries a black bag containing her belongings. Her long curly hairs were in a ponytail style which made it look even more professional. That's not all because for Arch, her body is even more beautiful.

‎She became more beautiful than the last time I saw her. His mind screamed.

‎He admits that he was just looking at it until the presentation was over. Her body was even more curvaceous than the last year he saw her.

‎ His brain was flying everywhere but he didn't care there was no end to the memories of their husband and wife returning to his mind. And he knows that he can only look at his memories. He knows that he made her suffer and sorry wasn't enough to ease the pain.

‎After the presentation, he asked questions. He notices all the expressions he sees in her ex-wife. He also remembers how it was annoying before and it didn't change anything. He didn't want to ask how she is but it's already too late for that.

‎"Ahem" he cleared his throat.

‎"Roxanne." His ex-wife turned to him trembling and then looked him boldly in the eye.

‎"How are you?" this casual question to her.

‎ There was a minute of silence between the two of them. He's not expecting to answer his question because who is he to her? but he didn't expect her to answer him with a smile on her face.

‎"I'm fine, Mr. Montenegro."

Roxanne sat at the kitchen island, fingers wrapped around a mug of black coffee, watching Arch pace the length of his living room like a caged lion.It had been three days since Victor Hale’s arrest. Three days of police interviews, board meetings that ran until dawn, and news cycles that chewed up Montenegro Inc. like it was yesterday’s trash. CEO’S SCANDALOUS AFFAIR WITH TOP ENGINEER blared one headline. SABOTAGE PLOT EXPOSES CORPORATE BETRAYAL screamed another.Arch paused by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline—his skyline, dotted with cranes and half-finished towers that now felt like targets. He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it more tousled than usual. The cut on his temple was healing, but the bruise around his eye was still a deep purple.“You should eat something,” Roxanne said, pushing a plate of scrambled

Roxanne McBeal had always trusted numbers more than people. Steel beams, stress ratios, torque limits—those were predictable. Human motives were not. That was why the anonymous message burning on her phone screen made her blood go cold.Stay away from him.She slipped the device into her pocket, fingers trembling as the words replayed in her mind. Around her, the construction site roared back to life after the near-catastrophe—sirens wailed, radios crackled, and boots crunched across concrete and shattered steel. But all Roxanne could hear was the echo of Arch Montenegro’s voice from moments earlier, the intensity of his kiss still alive on her lips like a memory she couldn’t erase. That kiss should never have happened.Arch was the CEO of Montenegro Developments—billionaire, visionary, and her direct superior. She was the firm’s lead structural engineer, brought in for her brilliance, not her heart. But when the inspection beam failed and sent debris raining down like a storm of kniv

‎‎‎Roxanne McBeal gripped the steering wheel of her SUV as she navigated the predawn streets toward the Montenegro Inc. construction site. ‎‎The clock on the dashboard glowed 5:15 AM, and the chill seeping through the vents clawed at her skin despite the heater blasting on high. She'd barely slept, her mind replaying yesterday's charged encounter with Arch Montenegro;the way his piercing blue eyes had held hers a fraction too long during the project review meeting, the subtle brush of his fingers against hers when passing a blueprint. ‎‎Routine inspection, she repeated like a mantra. Just verify the foundation pours before the crew clocks in. But her pulse thrummed in her ears, betraying the lie. This wasn't routine. Not with him.‎‎The site sprawled on the outskirts of the city, a colossal beast of progress amid the foggy industrial sprawl. Chain-link fences topped with razor wire encircled the perimeter, fluttering with faded warning signs that whipped in the wind. ‎‎Floodl

‎‎‎‎‎CHAPTER — Closer Than Business‎‎Roxanne arrived at the Montenegro Inc. headquarters earlier than usual, a mixture of nerves and anticipation twisting her stomach. The office smelled faintly of coffee and polished wood;comforting and familiar, yet charged with something else today. Something she couldn’t name.‎‎She straightened her blazer and smoothed her skirt, telling herself again and again: it’s just business. Nothing else matters.‎‎She passed the glass-walled boardroom and paused. Inside, the table was already set for the day’s meeting. Laptops hummed quietly. Notepads were open. Coffee cups lined the edge like sentries waiting for orders.‎‎And at the head of the table, naturally, was Arch.‎‎He didn’t look up immediately, too engrossed in the papers in front of him. But the moment he sensed her presence, his head lifted, and their eyes met.‎‎That familiar pull hit her chest. The same pull from the site visit. The almost-kiss. The brush of his thumb on her wris

‎‎‎‎‎Roxanne sat at her desk, tapping the tip of her pencil against the architectural plans she had spread across the table. The office was unusually quiet, save for the occasional click of keyboards and the hum of the air conditioning. Everything was supposed to be normal. She told herself that a hundred times already. But her mind kept drifting back to the Montenegro Inc. site visit.‎‎The way his hand had hovered at her waist, the way his eyes had searched hers, the almost-kiss she could still feel pressing at the edge of her memory — it was impossible to erase.‎‎And yet, she was professional. She reminded herself. She was an architect. He was the CEO. Business first, everything else later.‎‎She straightened the plans on her table and forced herself to focus.‎‎Then, the door opened, and Arch entered.‎‎He moved through the room with his usual calm authority, but there was something in the tilt of his jaw, the tightness in his shoulders, that betrayed him. He looked at h

‎‎‎‎‎The elevator ride to the top floor felt longer than usual.‎‎Roxanne’s fingers tightened around the rolled-up blueprint tubes in her arms as the digital numbers climbed. She kept her eyes forward, pretending her pulse wasn’t betraying her — pretending she didn’t remember everything that happened days ago.‎‎The silence.‎The closeness.‎The mistake neither of them has dared to name.‎‎When the elevator doors slid open, the familiar cool scent of Arch’s office floor greeted her — clean, sharp, laced with something earthy and expensive. His scent. His world.‎‎She swallowed hard.‎‎“Professional,” she whispered to herself. “You’re here to work.
