The ripple effect began the next morning.

Aria stood proudly in her kindergarten classroom, hands on her hips, as if she were presenting a national achievement.

“We went to the amusement park,” she announced loudly. “With my mum. And my dad. And Aiden.”

Her classmates gasped appropriately.

Aiden sat beside her, swinging his legs, a small smile playing on his lips.

“There was a big wheel,” he added seriously. “And ice cream. Damien bought two.”

The teacher laughed. “That sounds lovely.”

Aria nodded solemnly. “It was. My dad held my hand on the ride.”

Aiden glanced at her, then said softly, “He held mine too.”

Something gentle passed between them—an unspoken understanding that felt older than their years.

Across the room, a little girl whispered to another, “Aiden’s dad is very handsome.”

Aiden didn’t hear it.

But the world was starting to notice.

At Stones International, the whispers were louder.

Photos—harmless, unposed—had found their way online. A family stepping out of an amusement park. A tall man lifting a laughing child onto his shoulders. A woman smiling beside him, elegance effortless.

No scandal.

No headlines.

Just admiration.

"No wonder I felt there was something special about her,so she's the mother to the CEOs kids"

“She looks like she belongs with him.”

“They look… happy.”

The entire stones building was in shock by the sudden realization.

Damien closed his tablet, expression unreadable.

“They shouldn’t have taken pictures,” his assistant said nervously.

Damien shook his head. “It’s fine.”

And it was.

Because for once, he wasn’t hiding.

But elsewhere in the building, Daxton Stone stared at the same images, fingers tapping slowly against his desk.

Children softened men.

And softened men made dangerous choices.

By afternoon, tension crept in quietly.

May felt it first.

The subtle shift in Damien’s posture. The way his jaw tightened when a call came in. The silence he carried home with him like a shadow.

She didn’t push.

She waited.

At dinner, Aria chattered endlessly about school. Aiden listened, occasionally nodding, his fork moving slowly as if savoring the calm.

Afterward, Damien helped clear the table without being asked.

May watched him from the doorway.

“You’re somewhere else,” she said gently.

He looked at her then—really looked.

“My grandfather wants to see the children again,” he said.

May stilled.

“When?”

“Soon,” he replied. “He didn’t say it directly. But I know him.”

She nodded slowly. “And how do you feel about that?”

Damien hesitated. “Conflicted.”

She stepped closer. “We’ll face it together.”

His shoulders eased just a little.

Later that night, the house settled into quiet.

Aria was asleep, sprawled dramatically across her bed. Aiden lay tucked in, Damien sitting beside him until his breathing evened out.

“You’re not leaving?” Aiden murmured sleepily.

“I’m right here,” Damien said.

That was enough.

In the living room, May sat curled on the couch, a blanket around her shoulders. Damien joined her, close but unassuming.

For a while, they just sat.

No words.

No expectations.

Then May rested her head against his shoulder.

He exhaled, tension melting away.

“This,” he said softly, “is my favorite part of the day.”

She smiled. “Being still?”

“Being real,” he corrected.

She tilted her head to look at him. “You don’t have to be strong all the time.”

“I know,” he replied. “That’s why I feel safe here.”

Her hand slid into his, fingers fitting naturally.

Outside, the city hummed.

Inside, peace lived quietly between them.

In her room, Lily sat at her desk, books open, but her thoughts elsewhere.

She smiled to herself.

Her sister had built a life—not loud or perfect—but honest.

And that, Lily thought, was the bravest thing of all.

Far across the city, Evelyn watched the same photos again.

Happy.

Whole.

Untouchable.

Her phone buzzed.

A message from an unknown number.

You’re losing him.

She smiled slowly.

“No,” she whispered. “Not yet.”

Back at the house, Damien pressed a gentle kiss to May’s forehead.

“Thank you,” he said.

“For staying,” she replied.

They didn’t rush the moment.

They didn’t need to.

Because love—real love—was no longer something they were chasing.

It was already home.

The morning sunlight spilled across the skyline, casting long, golden streaks into the sleek offices of Damien Stone Enterprises. Despite the calm exterior of the city, the tension inside the building was palpable. Today, Evelyn had planned her most audacious move yet—a public sabotage intended to humiliate May in front of the company’s board, employees, and high-profile investors.May walked through the lobby with her usual poise, Damien at her side, fingers brushing hers lightly. “You’re tense,” he murmured, leaning close.“I’m ready,” she replied, eyes steady. “Evelyn thinks she can corner me. But she doesn’t know who she’s dealing with.”Damien’s lips pressed to her temple. “And I know I’m lucky to have you. Always.”The conference room was packed. And though she had failed before, May knew that Evelyn’s patience was nothing short of terrifying.Damien fell into step beside her as they walked through the lobby. “You’ve got that look again,” he murmured, his fingers brushing hers. “The one that says you’re about to take names.”May smiled faintly, the calm in her eyes betraying the storm inside. “Evelyn is bold.
