Grace's POV
After finishing the loads of work my boss dumped on me, it was finally time I reached home, not before buying an instant noodles packet for my dinner. Yep because that is the only cheapest meal I can afford as of right now. After having dinner, I checked my phone to see any important notifications. Having none, I called it a day and slipped into a deep slumber. The whole week went by with nothing serious happening, except for the loads of work, and my boss finally learning my name. He is still the same impossible jackass, but I just have to deal with it as of right now, because I'm in need of money, and this job certainly pays me better than any other I have had so far. I was making my way to the small kitchen in the office to get him his coffee when I saw I had company.I however ignored the man standing there and continued making the coffee. He of course noticed me and decided to start a conversation."Hey," the guy smiled at me."Hi," I nodded back at him."You new here?" I nodded at his question."Oh really, what post?" He asked sweetly. Well he didn't really seem the jerk kind so I decided to answer him."I'm the new P.A for Mr. Knight""No way! So the rumors are true!" his eyes widened at my revelation.I squinted my eyes at the sudden reaction. "What rumors?" I asked curiously."Oh, you know that Mr. Knight finally got himself a beautiful female personal assistant." I slightly blushed at the 'beautiful' part."No wonder everyone was right!" I chuckled at his statement. "Oh how rude of me to not introduce myself! I'm Stephan," he offered me his hand to shake. I accepted it gladly."I'm Grace Miller.""A beautiful name for a beautiful girl!" Cliche, I thought."If you'll excuse me I have to go now," I showed him the coffee cup that I prepared for Mr Knight and he nodded."Can we meet at lunch if you are ok with it?" I nodded at his request."Sure I'll see you there then," and with that I made my way back to his office.I knocked before entering. But what surprised me was that Mr Knight was glaring daggers at my direction as soon as I entered.I got a little nervous thinking of what I did wrong this time. I gently placed the cup on his desk when he decided to open his mouth."It is advisable for you to keep your personal life out of the office, Miss Miller. I don't want you flirting with my employees. " He spoke nonchalantly, all the while glaring at me.I opened my mouth to argue back for that unbelievable accusation he was putting me up for but nothing came out. I looked like a fish out of water."Cat got your tongue Miss Miller?" He raised his eyebrow and as he spat arrogantly."I wasn't..." I tried to explain but he didn't let me."I don't care what you were or were not doing. I won't tolerate this kind of behavior next time. You may leave now!" He went back to work without letting me explain anything.I quietly left not before thinking what the hell just happened?Once it was time for lunch, I packed my things ready to leave when a knock sounded on my door. "Come in" I called out without looking up."Looks like someone is busy," I looked up to find Stephan standing there."Oh hey what are you doing here?" I asked."I thought you forgot about our lunch," he replied sheepishly."Oh no I didn't, I was just wrapping up."After I was done, we made our way to the cafeteria and took a seat on a table of two people."So tell me a little more about yourself Grace!" He excitedly munched on his hamburger."There is really nothing exciting about me," I shrugged, giving the same answer."Really? Why do I find that hard to believe?""Really. I'm just an ordinary drop out from college.""Why did you drop out?""Because of a situation....." He realized that I was not really ready to open up about myself so instantly changed the topic."Ok. So you know I'm 24 years old and have been working here for three years now. My hobby is painting and I'm single.""Really? You paint? You don't look like the artistic one, honestly. No offense.""None taken. And yes I know because I get that a lot. But you will really be shell shocked once you see my work. ""If you say," I shrugged."In fact I'll paint a portrait of you as a proof"."There really is no need for that!""Of course there is . After all you are my friend!'' The word 'friend' shocked me as I really didn't have any friends my entire life. I smiled slightly at him. Once we were done we left for our cabins. It was time for a meeting with one of Mr. Knight's clients so I got ready for that. He told me that my 'presence' would be required for this one as I had to take notes.I accompanied him to the meeting hall as we took our places respectively. I served him a glass of water before the meeting started in case he got thirsty during the meeting. He eyed me with something reflecting in his orbs but let it pass. I sat down and finally the meeting started.I concentrated on taking down notes while adding my points to the discussion when required. It was time to show them the presentation that I had prepared and I was quite nervous as I was the one to deliver it.As I was going through the presentation, from the corner of my eyes , I could see everyone was impressed with my research, even Mr Knight, but I knew the jerk wouldn't praise me for anything. The meeting was over and successful as everyone got up to make their way out. But soon one of the clients approached Mr Knight as I stood beside him carrying his papers for him."It was a pleasure dealing with you Mr Knight. I must add that you have an efficient personal assistant. She truly was in the spotlight today. I would love to have someone as beautiful as her working for me as well." I got a little uncomfortable at his remarks but maintained my posture. While Mr Knight clearly stayed emotionless."It would be better for you to concentrate on the meeting instead of my employees next time Mr. Steve. For all I know, I may not like this behavior of yours and it could cost you a very handsome deal." His voice filled with annoyance and anger. Mr. Steve paled at Mr. Knight's words and squeaked out a sorry before escaping. Mr. Knight turned to look at me and my eyes immediately started admiring the heels I was wearing."Work on the economic area more next time," he stated before walking out and leaving me behind with just one thought.Never satisfied."Good morning," I wished Mr Knight as I entered his office to serve him his coffee. His ignorant ass of course didn't wish me back. But I was used to it by now. I proceeded to keep his coffee on his desk when I noticed something. He looked a little pale than usual. His eyes looked tired and he was breathing a little more heavily. He almost looked vulnerable. "Are.. are you ok Mr Knight?" I couldn't help but worry. He chose to stay quiet and continue doing whatever he was doing on his laptop. Suddenly his head rocked a little as his hand shot up to clutch the side of his head. "Oh God! Are you ok?" I instantly rushed to his side to keep him in place. His eyes closed momentarily as he released a deep sigh. I placed my palms on his forehead only to find out he was burning. He had a fever, and he was here this early in the morning working his ass off. Is he serious? "Mr. Knight, you have a fever." I gasped out. "Just leave me alone. Get out right now," his voice boomed in the office a
Grace 's PovWe were making our way to this restaurant where he had to meet someone for a business meeting. I was in his car and the tension was thick. The silence was threatening and the hard expression on his face didn't help at all. We were at the restaurant in a few minutes. A guard opened my gate and helped me out. I thanked him softly before moving behind Mr. Knight, as he continued walking in his powerful strides. I had to run a little to keep up with him. We were escorted to a private area by the workers as soon as they recognized Mr. Knight. I saw that the person we had to meet was already there, and we joined him at the table. "Hello Mr Knight. It's nice to meet you finally." He offered his hand and Mr Knight accepted, shaking it firmly. "What is the reason that you wanted to meet me in a hurry Mr. Worthing?" Mr. Knight asked as he took a sip from his coffee. "Well Mr. Knight, I thought of the tempting deal you had offered my company a few weeks back. I have made up my mi
Grace's POV The next morning I made my way to my cabin, not before wishing Valentina a good morning who returned it with a big smile. I placed my things on my desk before moving out to grab some coffee for Mr Knight. I took the cup in my hand along with a sandwich I had bought for him on the way, knowing he doesn't have breakfast. I gently knocked on the door and entered after hearing a stern come in. I wished him as I placed the coffee and sandwich on his desk. He eyed the sandwich curiously before concentrating back on his work. "What do I have on schedule today?" He kept his eyes locked on the laptop. "You just have a meeting today with Mr Steve to further discuss the project." I explained. For some reason I don't know, I didn't trust this Mr Steve. I mean that day at the meeting the way he was looking at me did not feel right. And then he even commented about me casually to Mr Knight. That too right in front of me. His eyes gave away something. Something mischievous. My sixth s
GRACE'S POVI went to my cabin, still trembling a little from the incident that occurred not minutes ago. I redid the whole document and made sure to re-check it over and over again before finally submitting it to Mr Knight. He didn't even acknowledge my presence as I made my way into his office and placed the document on his desk. I asked if he needed anything else. Not getting a reply in return, I just turned around to leave. I sat on my chair before calming myself. Was I ever going to have a simple life without having to worry about money anymore? With having someone to care about me. Why did you leave me so early mom? Just why? A tear leaked from my eye at the memories I had with her. My mind trailed off to the days when we were all happy, living together as a family. With my elder brother always there to look after me and to kiss my boo boos when I got hurt. Was he doing alright now? Had he settled down in life? Had he taken over dad's business as it was planned? I just hoped
Grace's pov Two days. Just two days left. And she'll kick me out. I can't believe I wasted a whole day just like that. I finally slammed my laptop shut when I couldn't find a reasonable side job that could help me generate a few dollars in two days. They at least required you to work for a week. Like come on! Can't they hire someone as a helper for two days? I saw the clock starting at 8 am. Yep. I stayed up all night. I dragged myself to the bathroom and took a shower and got changed for the office, all the time worrying over the fact that if I don't have enough money in two days, I will have no place to live in. Reaching the office, Valentina stopped me before I made my way to the elevator. "You ok?" She sounded worried. "You don't look so good." I gave her a half-hearted smile, "I'm fine, just a little tired," I explained and she scowled at my words. "I can literally see those dark circles under your eyes. Not to mention it looks like you lost a couple of pounds." She st
Grace I was ready for the event, waiting for the car to arrive at my door. I heard a horn, indicating the car was here. I looked at myself once in the mirror, before leaving and locking my door. When I turned around to face the car, my eyes bulged out of my sockets. I saw a brand new Limo waiting outside my door. The driver stepped out from his seat and opened the door for me. I thanked him before sitting in and he quietly drove us to our destination. He opened the door once again for me as I stepped out. I looked in front to see paparazzi surrounding the front gate of the hall. Their eyes immediately turned towards me. Without paying more attention to it, I decided to head in, trying to escape the countless cameras flashing in my direction. "You are one pretty lady." I heard a camera man saying to me. I turned to face him. "You could do an excellent job as a model." He handed me a card. "My company is recently looking for ethereal beauties like you. Give it a call if you are i
Grace I plopped down on my bed after kicking off my heels. I groaned, staring at the ceiling. Why can't things go my way for once? Another day wasted. If I don't pay tomorrow, then I won't have a place to live! God please help me! I beg you! I got up and changed out of the dress. My stomach growled, making me glare at it. Moving towards my kitchen, I grabbed an instant noodles packet from the cabinet and started boiling it. After having my so-called dinner, I succumbed to sleep. The next day, I was extra nervous when I made my way to the office. This didn't go unnoticed by many people and Stephen even approached me to ask if I was ok. Giving him a fake smile and a polite answer, I started making my way to the employee's elevator. But I stopped in my tracks when dizziness enveloped my head. I swayed a little, stumbling on my feet but still managed to balance myself. Stephen was quick to run to me and hold me by my shoulders. "Woah there! What is happening to you? You are definit
Author's pov Ashton felt his blood boil, as he waited for Grace to show up. Five minutes had passed since the meeting had started, and she was nowhere to be seen. He sighed from frustration, tapping his feet impatiently against the wooden floor. His eyes traveled to Mr. Steve who was sitting opposite to him on the long rectangular table. Not being able to control his anger anymore, he called for Stella. "Where is Grace?" he questioned her in his hard tone as soon as she entered the hall. Not wanting to anger him anymore, she decided to reply. "I didn't really see her anywhere in the office today Mr. Knight." She said while looking down at the ground. Ashton, irritated with the whole situation, ran his fingers through his hair. Sighing furiously, he got up from his seat and made his way to the glass wall behind him, that gave him a clear view of the city. Trying to calm himself, he closed his eyes momentarily before opening them back again. But that didn't help him either. In f
