Cheryl smiled, and pleasant as it was, a trace of bitterness underlined it. "Thank you for going out of your way, Natalie."

At that moment, she didn't see Natalie as a client at the law firm but simply as a friend—her friend.

They headed toward the car, but Natalie had only just turned when she felt a weight fall gently on her shoulders. She cast a sidelong glance and realized Rowan had snuck up on her and draped his suit jacket over her frame.

When he'd pulled the jacket securely over her, he stepped back, looking confident and suave in his dark gray shirt. He had forgone the tie in his hurry to leave the house with Natalie. As he stared at her evenly, he said, "It's getting cold."

Natalie blushed and quietly looked away from him.

Cheryl felt nothing but envy as she watched the two of them. "I've heard stories of how much Mr. Mattel dotes on you, Natalie. From what I've seen today, the stories are true."
