Chapter 4

Author: Strawberry Softie
Today was September 1st. It was a perfect day for going out and for getting humiliated in public.

The fall weather was crisp and clear. Crowds thronged outside the gates of Starvard University, filled with new students and their parents as they arrived for the students' enrollment on admission day.

I dragged my suitcase with me to the plaza at the gates and suddenly witnessed a striking sight.

All 42 classmates of mine were wearing cheap, knock-off Starvard University varsity jerseys that they bought online, while blocking the entrance to the freshmen registration area.

Kevin stood at the very front, his face flushed as he argued fiercely with several security personnel and student body volunteers there.

"Do you even know how to check the system properly? I told you that we all have secured our spots in this university through a special exclusive internal admission channel! We should be able to get in just by showing our ID cards!"

He stomped his feet angrily on the ground and slammed his ID onto the table.

The student body volunteer was covered in sweat as he checked through the system again, patiently answering Kevin, "We've already checked the system three times, Kevin. Your names really aren't in the system. And you didn't bring your admission letters with you either, so how am I supposed to verify anything?"

"What the hell do you need the admissions letters for? That's just for the regular people!"

Janice shoved the volunteer aside and pointed a finger at the security guard, yelling in his face. "Your system is faulty! Hurry up and tell your admission administrator to come out and answer us at once!

"How dare you stop all 42 of us geniuses from entering your campus? Can you face the consequences at all?"

The guard just looked at her like he was looking at a jester and scoffed.

"Geniuses? I've been a security guard here for more than ten years, and I've never seen a 'genius' forget to bring their admission letter along with them on admission day. Which high school are all of you from? Stop causing trouble for everyone here!"

Kevin was getting anxious. He hurriedly took out his phone, tapped into CloudAI, and shoved his phone before the guard's face.

"Open your eyes wide and read this! CloudAI already said that they've secured the spots for us, and our files are already registered properly in Starvard University's system! This is done by AI! How dare you deny it!"

The guard read the AI chat window on the screen. He was a little stunned at first, but he quickly burst out into loud laughter just a short while later.

"Oh, my God, that was the best joke ever! Have you guys been spending too much time reading fantasy novels or something?"

He pointed at Kevin's phone screen and poked fun at him, saying, "You're saying that AI helped you register and enroll in Starvard? Then, why don't you ask it to give you your degree and certificate as well? What's the point of coming here to make a huge fuss at our gates?

"Hurry up and move along now. I'm going to call the police on you if you cause more trouble for us again!"

The other freshmen and their parents also approached the group, pointing at them and laughing at their situation.

"You really don't know what weird happenings you'd run into these days. Did they really think that they could get admitted into Starvard just with a screenshot of an AI chatbot?"

"I bet they all flunked their tests and got a little cuckoo in the head from the shock. It's such a pity."

My classmates all turned white and pale when they heard the surrounding people mocking them like that.

Aaron was beginning to panic. He tugged on Kevin's sleeve and said, "What's going on, Kevin? Didn't CloudAI say that everything was set?"

Kevin gritted his teeth, his eyes turning bloodshot as he clutched desperately at straws, still unwilling to give up.

"CloudAI would never lie to me! If it said that it secured spots for us, that means that it secured spots for us!"

Just then, Janice caught sight of me. I was standing at the very edge of the crowd who gathered around, watching them coldly.

She looked like she'd just seen her savior as she rushed up to me, seemingly finally finding a place to vent out all her frustrations. Her eyes were red and bloodshot too.

"Daryl Greer! What are you doing there, watching us make a fool of ourselves? You're one of us too! Come here and talk some sense into these people here!" she yelled, grabbing my suitcase and pulling it with her.

I brushed her hands off easily as a mocking smile played on my lips.

"Talk sense into them? About what? About the fact that you're all just a bunch of idiots who were completely fooled by a stupid AI chatbot?"

I ignored their shocked looks and slowly pulled out a gold-embossed admission letter with the Starvard University emblem from my backpack, walking straight up to the admissions gate.

Janice was currently hiding at home, still fantasizing about how she should help Kevin through his predicament.Suddenly, the front door was kicked wide open, and several angry parents rushed in, grabbed her without another word, and began beating her up."You insolent brat! You did all that just to please a man? So why did you have to go and sacrifice my son's future?""Who do you think you are, trying to play the saint? You've single-handedly ruined 40 families! You're going to pay for this with your life!"Janice was beaten to a pulp, and she screamed for her parents to help her, "Mom! Dad! Help! Save me! They're going to beat me to death!"Her parents saw the large group of enraged parents with bloodshot eyes, noticed the long list of compensation claims totaling tens of millions of dollars, and began trembling with fear. They were just ordinary office workers. How could they possibly afford to pay up?Janice's father, Isaac Hudson, looked at his daughter on the ground, who

Just like that classmate's father said, the row that the class caused at Starvard University had been filmed and posted online by the curious onlookers just now, and by then, the videos had gone completely viral."Shocking! 42 High School Students Tried Forcing Their Way Into Starvard University Using AI Chat Logs, Claiming That The Admissions System Was Hacked!""The Tragedy of Contemporary Education—Students Trusting AI Nonsense Over Admission Letters!"Many major official news outlets reposted the story, and people were quick to flood the comment section with mocking comments. Not only were the classmates denied admission, but they also quickly became the talk of the nation.A few days later, these disheveled "prospective Starvard University students" were escorted back to their hometowns by their own parents. What awaited them was a series of yellings, scoldings, and endless despair.Kevin's home was literally in shambles.A brick shattered the floor-to-ceiling windows of th

Mr. Cooper waved his hand dismissively and said, "Security, take them all away. If they dare to cause trouble again, hand them over to the police instead."Dozens of security guards stepped forward at once and began pushing and shoving the 42 students out of the plaza like they were herding sheep. The students were then driven to the side of the road outside the campus like a bunch of stray dogs in the scorching sun, with the other freshmen's and their parents' cameras still pointed toward them. It looked even more ironic since they were all still dressed in their knock-off varsity jerseys."We're done for… It's all over…"One of the students who could have gotten into a top-tier college with his consistently high grades suddenly broke down in tears."I could have gone to a top college! And my parents are all still waiting for my good news too! How am I supposed to explain this to them at all?"They finally realized that their years and years of hard work had been completely ruin

"What's going on? Why are you all making such a scene at the campus gates on admission day?" Mr. Cooper asked, frowning slightly as he stared at the 42 students in their knock-off varsity jerseys on the ground.Janice was the first to rush forward, like a loyal subject who had just suffered a great injustice. She snatched Kevin's phone from his hand and shoved the AI chat interface in Mr. Cooper's face."Look at this, sir! This is the evidence that we have of your internal corruption! There's a mole in your admissions office! They transferred all 42 of our class' special admission spots to someone named Daryl Greer!"Kevin also cried out in protest with her, "We're all excellent students here, sir! We're geniuses! You can't let this kind of hacker thief steal our spots and let him get away with it! That's only going to tarnish the college's reputation!"Mr. Cooper narrowed his eyes and briefly glanced at the chatbot interface on the phone before looking at the group of indignant st

All 42 students swarmed forward like zombies, frantically trying to break through the security barrier to tear me apart. The security guard was startled and quickly called for reinforcement on his walkie-talkie."Requesting backup at the main gate! A group of seemingly mentally unstable individuals are trying to break in!"I stood inside the security cordon, watching them with their ferocious expressions, and couldn't help but chuckle."Kevin, is there absolutely nothing in that brain of yours except utter bullshit?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest while looking down at them condescendingly."You're accusing me of stealing your spots? Did you think Starvard University was Walmart or something, where you can buy spots and transfer ownership at the snap of a finger? "You believe every word CloudAI says, don't you? Well, if it said that I were the king, wouldn't that mean that you're going to have to bow at my feet too?""Stop trying to deny it!" Janice said, pointing a f

The Starvard University signature purple admission letter seemed to radiate a blinding light under the right sunlight, instantly scorching the eyes of everyone from the class.I ignored their shocked, ghostly expressions and handed the admission letter and my ID card to the student body volunteer who was still sweating profusely due to the situation. He took a look at my admissions letter and scanned it with the system scanner."Verification successful."The volunteer's previously impatient face immediately beamed with a warm smile after that."Oh, it's you, Daryl Greer! The admissions lecturer had already informed me that you were a direct admission student through a special recommendation. This way, please!"The security guard immediately dropped his mocking expression and pulled open the barrier for me to go through, even saluting me when I walked past him.I got in so smoothly and efficiently that it completely stunned the 42 people still standing outside the barrier. The a
