Lucy's POV

Of course, I couldn't avoid those men for long. Their insistence knew no bounds. At every chance they got, they tried to speak to me about our newfound connection—which I still denied.

Ahmad clearly knew nothing about this, so when he called for another meeting, I nearly cursed his entire existence. I wanted to fake that I was sick or something, but being cowardly left a bad taste in my mouth

Before leaving, I made sure to quickly make something for Tessa when she woke up. She was a deep sleeper, and we had been up for most of the night trading night-time stories. So she likely wasn't going to be up until the sun was higher up in the sky.

As for me, I ensured to double-check the dress that had been bought for me by my personal attendant, making sure that there was no kind of slit present on it before I put it on. This dress was frilly and reminded me of my time as a little girl—innocent and naïve. Not unlike now that I had been . . . soiled and dirtied by the hands of Dave

Lucy's POV Fortunately, despite all the troubles Gert caused with the venue, I had been able to fix things before the event. It took a lot of sweat and cursing, but my small team and I had been able to finish things up on time. The triplets had even helped out at some point, assisting in replacing banners and scrubbing off places that were never intended to have been painted in the first place. It was a collective win, and I was grateful to them for their assistance. The evening of the event, I had gone over to the room where Rosa and Tessa had been staying in order for us women, or two women and a half, to prepare together. In a way, it was my first actual Moon Festival in Moongrowl, because this time I wasn't tied to a man that merely pressed me to his side because of what he thought he would gain from it. This time, I was going to be free.As I had requested, I had finally been given access to the treasury Daven had created for me. As much as he had been a controlling influence o

Lucy's POVLater in the day, when the sky had gone dark and the moon had risen, Shaun came over to my bedroom again. I briefly thought about not letting him inside at first, but later decided against it. When he entered, he stood by the doorway, looking a little out of place before I gave him permission to step further inside. I slid into bed, watching him from under the bed covers, and waiting for him to join me.He didn't seem to understand my invitation, and instead went over to the couch by the corner of the room. “I understand if you still want to be alone. I'll be fine over here,” he said, taking off his shirt and lying down on the chair. In the dim lighting, I couldn't see his body, and maybe it was a good thing, because I didn't need it to haunt my sleep. I said nothing to him, but I didn't need to, because soon after that, a haze of sleep came over me, and I welcomed it.—In the middle of the night, I woke up to find myself drenched in sweat. My skin stuck to the bedshee

Lucy's POVOn realising who the agent of chaos was, I couldn't stop the surge of annoyance that went through my body, especially when I remembered the way she and her brother had spoken to me the other day. “Are you alright in the head, or is that ponytail too tight for you? Who gave you the right to waltz in here and start making changes to this venue?” I asked Gert, clenching my fists by my side to stop myself from knocking her upside the head. The woman didn't even look remorseful at all, but then, that might have been wishful thinking in the first place. She didn't appear to be someone who was able to take responsibility for her wrongs. “I came here to make things proper. From what I've noticed, you have been doing a very poor job of organising things. But what else can one expect from a slave dragged out from a bottom-level pack?”“A poor job? A poor job?” I pinched the bridge of my nose and pulled my lips into a smile I didn't feel. Blew warm air out of my mouth. “Look, Gert,

Shaun's POVI couldn't sleep.Hours after I came into Lucy's room, there I was on the bed, thinking about all the ways I had messed up things with her right from the beginning. It was one thing to have been unkind to someone, and it was another to have been unkind to someone who didn't deserve such treatment at all. Someone who had already suffered enough.I already held a grudge against my father for his indirect hand in his wife's death, but finding out that he took Lucy to be his wife at such a young age further cemented all the negative feelings I had towards him. What kind of man does such a thing, if not one deeply damaged?I turned to my side, finally allowing myself to get a good look at her now that she had fallen asleep. Her face in this position looked absolutely angelic. Her soft blond locks had fallen over her face, and her lashes shuddered every now and then when she took a deep breath than usual. Beautiful as a word didn't have enough meaning to fit in how breathtaking

Lucy's POV Helpless. The only word that could encompass how I felt. I had come so close to losing Rosa again. The fact that that was how she would have just died, sent pangs of pain through my heart and soul, but I could never have envisioned that this would have happened to her because of me. We had eaten together, but she had taken the part of the meal that was poisoned, which was why she was the one who had suffered its effects. It should have been me in the hospital bed, and not her. She didn't deserve it. Not at all. They had managed to stabilize her vitals and pump the poison out of her system, but it was still going to take a little while before she would come out of her unconsciousness. I sat beside her bed in the hospital, thinking about how things had managed to go so wrong in just a short time.I placed my head on my palms and sighed, wishing that I had been more perceptive. Now, it was obvious that someone was indeed after my life and wanted me dead desperately. “Well

Lucy's POVAs every pack did, there was a festival held twice every year to celebrate the change of seasons in time with the moon's phases: the Moon Festival. The last time it had been celebrated, I had still been bound to Daven as his trophy slave wife, and had to follow him around the halls and pretend that I was happy to be by his side. I remembered that night like it was yesterday, because right after the festival, Daven had taken me to his chambers and subjected me to a night of forceful intercourse. He must have thought that having sex with me repeatedly would have changed something in the way I perceived him, but it only made me hate him more. Even though I usually just remained silent and endured him defiling my body, which he claimed to have owned, my chest always burned with rage whenever his hands touched me.This new festival had to be good enough for me to at least, forget about the last one to a certain extent. I didn't want to be reminded of the man who stole my innoc

Lucy's POVIn commemoration of the changing of powers, a celebration was held in Moongrowl. I didn't know why a celebration was necessary for something so simple, but I didn't have a say in it. The people of Moongrowl demanded a medium they could use to get to know the people who were now in charge of them, so who were we to refuse? The event was put together hastily, but on the actual day, the execution was carried out with complete precision that no one would have guessed that we planned it in less than three days. We also got the news that the triplets’ cousins were coming all the way from a distant pack to attend the event, so, everything had to be perfect, unless we were looking for a way to get publicly scrutinized for poor event management.Ultimately, we did our very best, and I couldn't care less about a posh family making commentary about it. With a tired sigh, I twirled the wine left in my glass, thinking about all the other things I could have been doing right then in th

Lucy's POVThe smell of spices wafted in the air. Soft music played from somewhere nearby I couldn't quite place, but I knew enough to know that the tune gave a slight bouce to my feet.My heat had fortunately subsided a couple of hours after my encounter with the triplets; although every now and then I felt it flare up, it was never as bad as it had initially been. The worst of it had passed, giving me more freedom and lessening my burden. It was a new day, and I was busy preparing a special meal once again for Tessa and myself. Cooking had grown to become an enjoyable pastime for me, and I cherished the moments I got to cook and prepare meals. It made me feel like an alchemist—putting things together in order to achieve a desired result. Once the dish was ready, I quenched the fire in the stove and started serving the meal in light ceramic plates. The kitchen door creaked open as people entered, causing the hairs on my neck to rise. I didn't need anyone to tell me who they were bec
