Chapter 2

Author: Insomniac Fishie
From behind came a deep, menacing growl. I saw the Mastiff moving closer.

I gripped the door with all my strength, unwilling to let go. My face was streaked with tears of terror.

"Let me out! Let me out! You have no right to do this!"

Daniel stepped forward and kicked me to the ground. The hard tip of his shoe drove down on my fingers, sending waves of pain through them. Tears ran freely from my eyes.

I bit my lip hard, refusing to lower my head. From above came words that were harsh and unrelenting.

"Louise, have I been too lenient with you? I gave you a chance to back down. Why are you still playing games? Do you honestly think I'll show you mercy? If so, think again.

"You live off Taco's scraps every single day. Can't you see? You don't even measure up to Callie's and my dog. You'd better take good care of Taco."

As the cage door crept shut before my eyes, I backed away in terror. At that very moment, something cold pressed against my back.

Taco lunged at me. Before I could react, it ripped a piece of flesh from my leg.

A harsh laugh rang out from beyond the cage.

"Go, Taco! Show your strength!"

"Dan, this show is incredible! I'm completely thrilled!"

"If it's worth watching, I'll make sure you get a front-row seat next time."

I wailed in torment. I had always been thankful for the one time Daniel had saved my life. No matter how often he caused me pain, I endured it all.

Yet now, their lively chatter was quietly fueling my hatred for him.

Sensing my terror, Taco began tearing at my clothes as if it were a game.

Overwhelmed by fear and pain, my body shook uncontrollably. I felt cold sweat sliding down my temples. Each drop burned sharply as it hit my eyes.

My garments were slowly being ripped apart. Every so often, my skin ached from being pulled and torn.

Within moments, every inch of my skin was left raw and exposed. With my teeth clenched, I sank into the corner, hugging the folder to my chest.

The voices outside the cage carried on relentlessly.

"Dan, it's clear that your wife is utterly devoted to you. They're just a few sheets of paper with your signature. I can't believe she'd rather get hurt than let them go."

Daniel sneered. "If that's the kind of pathetic love you're looking for, be my guest. I don't need it!"

"Dan, there's so much blood. I'm scared."

"Don't be afraid. I'll protect you."

Perhaps Taco had grown tired of playing; its eyes now burned with a feral hunger. I bit my bloodied lips and silently lifted its food bowl.

As the dog lunged at me with its gaping jaws, I slammed the bowl hard onto its head. It let out a painful whine and collapsed to the ground.

I finally caught my breath, but in the next second, I was kicked to the floor.

Daniel's voice exploded with fury. "How dare you hurt Taco!"

Callie held Taco tightly, and tears were streaming down her face. "Dan… I'm terrified! Is Taco going to die? We've had him for eight years. I can't lose him! Please, save him! I'm begging you!"

Visibly shaken, Callie turned to me and snapped, "Louise, Taco was only playing with you. How could you be so cruel to him?"

Cradling Callie, Daniel fixed me with a cold, piercing stare. "Louise, protecting papers bearing my signature doesn't give you the right to harm Taco. If anything happens to him, I'll throw you in a cage with a feral dog!"

With that, they left, taking Taco along with them.

I wiped the tears from my eyes and forced my broken body upright. Grabbing a coat, I drove straight to the hospital for treatment.

My body was covered in countless wounds, and blood dripped steadily from my right leg.

Upon seeing me, the doctor couldn't help but ask what had happened. I gave a curt explanation and turned to leave.

Reaching for my phone, I typed and sent a message: "The divorce papers have been signed, but I left them at the Savoy residence. I'm going home now. Come pick me up at my place."

As I took in the shadows beneath Daniel's eyes, a ripple of irony stirred within me. "Daniel, do you honestly think a handful of words can undo all the hurt you've inflicted on me?"Daniel hurriedly shook his head. "Of course not, Louise. But if you're willing to give me another chance and let me stay by your side, I'll devote the rest of my life to making amends."A cold laugh escaped me. "Making amends? Daniel, did it ever occur to you that we once had a child? When your keepsake with Callie fell into the river, you threw me in without a second thought."After being submerged in that contaminated water for hours, I began bleeding and lost our baby. Back then, you had the nerve to call me pretentious and filthy."You claimed I was just on my period. You even held me responsible for dirtying the river. You make me sick, and your love disgusts me all the more."Without a backward glance, I turned and walked away.Daniel stood behind me. His eyes were fixed on my retreating back. A

Owen nervously squeezed my hand. Noticing the defeated look in his eyes, I couldn't help but feel a pang of pity.My thoughts flashed back to Daniel and me on our first wedding anniversary. After he revealed his plan to elope with Callie, he disappeared without a trace.I went to the bar to drown my pain in alcohol, only to unexpectedly run into Owen. That night overflowed with a torrent of emotions. I poured out every ounce of frustration I had been holding inside.Though we had both grown up in the orphanage, there was a stark difference between us. I was a true orphan. Owen, on the other hand, had been a victim of his enemies' schemes. After losing his memory, he was taken in by the orphanage's director.During those two years in the orphanage, I protected him from every ounce of cruelty and pain. Being older, I felt it was my responsibility to keep him safe. After I was adopted, we lost all contact. For the past six years, Owen had constantly expressed his love for me. He neve

Daniel's mind spun. Before he even realized it, his hand was on my wrist. With a frown, I shrugged him off.Owen kicked him squarely in the chest, sending Daniel sprawling to the ground. As he clutched his chest, Daniel's eyes burned with rage. "Louise! How dare you tie the knot with someone else? Tell me—have you been involved with him all this time?"No, this man has to be some actor you hired. Given how much you love me, there's no way you'd actually marry someone else!"Help me up and get this gigolo out of here! You've really crossed the line this time. I can't believe you would stage such a ridiculous scene just to upset me!"The guests began murmuring among themselves. Before I could even speak, Adam suddenly rushed forward and slapped Daniel across the face."This is outrageous! You were the one who signed the divorce papers to end things with Louise. Why are you blaming her now? How did I end up raising a monster like you?"After he finished, Adam looked at me with a m

From that day on, Daniel spent three months touring the country with Callie. He had blocked me ahead of time. Whenever he went out with Callie back then, I would feign concern and secretly keep tabs on him. I had no doubt that he considered me a bother.Still, Daniel never once feared I would leave him. From the moment I took a hit for him, he saw that my love for him outweighed any thought of myself. For three months, he and Callie were swept up in a whirlwind of passion. It wasn't long before Callie found out she was pregnant with his child.Daniel assumed that a little pampering would be enough to keep me from being upset. It was rare for him to buy me anything. Still, he got me a bouquet of roses. Even with Callie being all sweet and playful, he hadn't bought her a single thing.Daniel couldn't help but be moved. After all, I had gone so far as to "sell myself" for him.He knew better than anyone how inexperienced I was in bed. There was no way I would have done something li

As he saw me leaning into the arms of this "random man", Daniel's face darkened like a brewing storm. "Louise, I'm giving you another chance. You'd better come here!"Before I could reply, Callie suddenly barged in with a group of people.Seeing the flush on my face and Owen beside me, her expression softened for a moment. Choking back tears, she said in a trembling voice, "Dan, I was wrong. I shouldn't have suggested letting Louise try that drug. If I hadn't—"She glanced at me, her face betraying the words she didn't dare speak."Forget it. It's my fault. Don't punish Louise. She wouldn't have gone to another man if it weren't for me."Without hesitation, Daniel drew her close, trying to comfort her. "Callie, how could this be your fault? Louise is the one who chose to sink so low. As expected, she's the type of woman who'd let a thousand men sleep with her!"Inside, the people who had arrived with Callie began to berate me."Everyone can see she's an orphan. She's been depriv

"Really? Hang on, Louise. I'm on my way!""Yes, I'm serious."The man fired off several messages. I chuckled softly. After all these years, he still wanted to stay close to me.In the hospital lobby, I saw Callie clinging to Daniel. Tears streamed down her face. "Taco's head is swollen with a big bump. The doctor said he narrowly avoided a concussion. It's heartbreaking.""Shh, don't cry. Rest assured, I'll make Louise pay for what she's done."Spotting me nearby, Callie sneered, "Dan, putting her in a cage with a feral dog is just too cruel. I heard that medicine from the other day works really well. Why don't we have Louise try it out with someone else first? That way, we can confirm it works before using it later.""I'll do as you say, Callie. Thanks to your kindness, Louise has been spared. Otherwise, I would've certainly locked her in a cage with a wild dog. Only then would she experience the real agony of being mauled."Hearing this, I hurriedly tried to leave. However, af
