“Hey!” I yelled, glaring up at him. “That is mine! Give it back!”
“Take back what you said earlier, dork,” he said, holding the towel just out of my reach.
“You said it yourself, so what is there for me to take back?” I argued, crossing my arms in the water. From my angle down in the pool, he looked incredibly tall, broad, and powerful. It was intimidating.
“Is that really what you think I am, Ava? Some sort of whore who just jumps from girl to girl?” he asked. He took a slow step closer to the very edge of the pool, his eyes darkening as he stared down at me.
I swallowed hard, but I refused to let him see how much he was affecting me. “Wow. Honestly, I couldn't have put it any other way myself,” I said, giving him a fake, sassy smile.
Miles let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. “You are so—”
“Look, I’m sorry! Okay? I take it back,” I interrupted quickly. The water was starting to feel a bit chilly, and I just wanted my towel.
Miles narrowed his eyes, studying my face suspiciously to see if I was lying.
“I really am sorry, Miles. Now please, just give me my towel,” I said, softening my voice.
“No, you're not sorry at all, dork,” he said, folding his arms across his chest, still holding the towel tight.
“I am serious, Miles. Please.” I looked up at him, silently praying that he would believe my fake apology.
It worked. Miles let out a soft sigh and stepped right up to the very edge of the concrete. “Fine. Here,” he said, leaning down slightly and offering the towel out to me.
A sudden wave of mischief rushed through my veins. I smiled sweetly as I swam closer to him. I reached my hands out, making it look like I was grabbing the fabric of the towel—but instead, I bypassed the cloth entirely.
My fingers wrapped tightly around his wrists. With all the strength I had, I yanked him forward.
Miles lost his balance instantly. He let out a loud curse as he fell forward, crashing directly into the water right on top of me. It made a massive, violent splash that sent water flying everywhere.
“Ava!” he screamed the moment his head broke through the surface.
I burst into a loud laugh, immediately spinning around to swim toward the steps so I could escape. But Miles was a fast, athletic swimmer, and he was ten times faster than me. Before I could even reach the first step, his large hand clamped firmly around my ankle.
With one strong pull, he dragged me right back into the deep water.
I choked, lifting my head out of the water to catch my breath. I started coughing violently, wiping the chlorine out of my eyes.
“Fucking asshole!” I gasped, trying to get myself together as I sputtered.
Suddenly, I felt a pair of large, warm, firm hands wrap securely around my waist. He lifted me up slightly so I could breathe easier.
I quickly pushed my wet hair away from my face. When my vision cleared, my heart completely stopped. Miles was standing right in front of me in the water. We were so close that our chests were almost touching. I could feel the heat radiating off his skin despite the cool water.
“Let go of me, Miles,” I whispered, my voice suddenly losing all its strength.
“No, the fuck I won't,” he murmured, a low, dangerous rumble in his chest. “You think you're really funny, don't you, dork? You know damn well I am going to get you back for this.”
He didn't let go. His grip on my waist remained tight, his thumbs resting against my bare skin. I kept looking at him, completely trapped by his gaze. He didn't look annoyed anymore. In fact, his dark eyes were darting down to my lips, and he looked like he was already plotting his next highly calculated move in his head.
“Miles!” Riley’s voice suddenly called out loudly from the back door.
The sound shattered the intense spell between us. Miles finally let go of my waist, stepping back. The second his hands left my skin, I swam to the edge and scrambled out of the pool as fast as my limbs could move.
As I stood up on the concrete, I could feel his eyes burning into my back. A sudden wave of intense self-consciousness washed over me. This wasn't the first time he had seen me in a bathing suit, and it definitely wasn't the hundredth time either. But for some reason, today felt completely different. My skin felt like it was on fire.
I quickly rushed over to a spare towel that had been kept aside on a lounge chair and wrapped it tightly around my body.
I turned around slowly to look back at the water. And just as I thought, Miles was still resting his arms on the edge of the pool, his dark eyes locked entirely on me, watching my every single move.
MILES “Have you been able to find any hot chicks over there yet?” Brandon asked loudly through the phone, his voice filled with amusement.“Unfortunately not,” I replied, leaning back against the plush headboard of my hotel bed. “My father told me that I am not allowed out of the hotel villa without the family.”There was a brief moment of absolute silence on the line. Then, both of us immediately burst into loud laughter at the absolute absurdity of what I had just said. The idea of me actually listening to my father’s strict rules was completely hilarious.“You are still going to leave the hotel anyway, aren't you?” Brandon asked, still chuckling.“Of course I am,” I said, running a hand through my hair. “I just have to find a way to bribe my annoying ass sister and her sidekick first.”“Ava?” Brandon asked, his tone suddenly shifting, sounding way more interested.“Yeah. Who else?”“Wow. You never told me she was going along on this trip with you both,” Brandon said, letting out
AVA“Neriah!” Aunt Mabel waved back happily, standing up from the table.I didn't want to turn around and look back just yet. Miles and Riley were still seated completely still, so I didn't want to look like I was doing way too much or being overly nosy. But just as I looked up from my phone, a girl with long, sleek black hair was already walking up and taking a seat across from us. She had striking brown eyes, and her skin looked so flawless it was obvious she spent a literal fortune on high-end skincare. She locked eyes with me, and we continued staring at each other for a long, awkward second. She was probably judging my red floral dress in her head, and I was definitely judging her right back.Another girl walked up to the table next. She looked a bit younger than the first girl, but she looked like she was around Riley and my age. She had thick, black wavy hair and a pointier nose. She stopped and stared directly at me in complete confusion, her eyebrows knitting together as if s
AVA“My cousins are just so incredibly extra, and honestly, we completely hate each other,” Riley groaned as she violently unpacked her clothes, tossing them onto her bed.I paused, holding a hanger in my hand, and looked over at her. “Isn't hate a really, really strong word, Riles?”“When they finally arrive and you meet them, you will know exactly what I am talking about,” Riley said, rolling her eyes as she slammed a drawer shut. “They always act like they are in some sort of constant, toxic competition with me.”“Well, you did tell me that their mother owns Loras,” I pointed out, smoothing down a shirt. “And that is an extremely popular, high-end clothing brand. So, they are probably just playing the part of spoiled, rich, fortunate adults.”My comment made Riley stop her frantic unpacking, and she burst into a loud laugh. “Yeah, you are completely right, I guess,” she shrugged, her tense shoulders finally relaxing.“Hey, you have to completely forget about them,” I said, walking
AVAThe flight to Greece felt like it lasted for an entire century. By the time the massive airplane finally touched down on the tarmac, my legs felt like jelly, and my neck was completely stiff from trying to sleep in a cramped window seat.Riley and I walked through the airport in a total daze, dragging our matching pink suitcases behind us. Right in front of us, her parents walked hand-in-hand, looking perfectly energized and completely in love. Trailing far behind the rest of the group was Miles. He had his hands shoved deep into his pockets, a black duffel bag slung carelessly over one broad shoulder, and dark sunglasses hiding his eyes. He hadn't said a single word to me during the entire journey, and I had done my absolute best to pretend he didn't exist. But the moment our private shuttle van pulled up to the resort, all of my exhaustion vanished into thin air.“Oh my goodness, Riles, look at this place,” I whispered, pressing my face against the glass window of the van.The h

AVA“I literally have the absolute worst news in the world,” Riley groaned a few days later, floating on her back as we swam in her parents' backyard pool.I stopped paddling and wiped the water from my eyes. “What’s wrong? What happened?”“My brother is coming along on the trip,” she said, letting out a dramatic whine.I almost laughed out loud at the pure misery in her voice. “Well, Riles, your parents are his parents too. He kind of belongs in the family photo.”“Unfortunately,” she muttered, splashing the water with her hand. “But he told mum and dad last week that he wasn't going to come. I have absolutely no idea why he suddenly changed his stubborn mind.”“He probably just wants to go over there and have a taste of gorgeous Greece girls,” I joked, shaking my head. “You can't really blame him. It’s a paradise for guy like him.”“Really, Harper?”The deep, mocking voice cut through the air, making me freeze instantly. My heart did a violent, heavy thud against my ribs.“What the
