Chapter 4

Author: Fruity Heaven
Sela's POV

Like a woman possessed, I grabbed everything within reach and hurled it at Shawn. I even grabbed the food he'd just finished cooking and, ignoring the scalding heat, dumped it all over his body.

Steam billowed up between us, blurring our figures.

I didn't know who he was anymore.

"Get out! Get the hell out! I'll never forgive you!"

The whole time, Shawn stood there with the same unreadable, silent expression. If he'd shown the slightest guilt, or any indication that he'd seriously planned a future with me and considered giving me a real place next to him, I wouldn't have been this devastated.

That only meant that from the very beginning, I'd been nothing but someone slated for sacrifice, a plaything during the transitional period of his life.

I'd never had the right to leave even the smallest mark in Shawn Leake's life.

"You're a monster, Shawn Leake!"

He pinched the bridge of his nose. His scalded jaw ticked, clearly indicating that he was losing patience.

He tossed his black card at me. "Take some time to calm down. I'll come back to see you in a few days."

When he reached the door, he stopped and added, "I'm at fault here, so I'll do everything I can to make it up to you. But I don't want you bothering my wife again."

The door slammed shut behind him.

I collapsed amid the wreckage, staying wide awake through the night until dawn broke.

I retrieved my own phone. Only then did I discover that Shawn, who never posted on social media, had shared a new update.

"Simple but happy".

The accompanying photo showed a bowl of tomato pasta—something that Shawn made for me all the time. Two hands—one large, one small—both wearing wedding rings, rested side by side. There was even a small bite mark from a woman on the web of Shawn's hand.

I couldn't tell if he'd done this to soothe her, allowing her to mark her territory for me to see, or if he simply felt there was no point in hiding anything anymore.

A message from Shawn popped up.

"Kelly's already accepted things. Don't be angry anymore; you're still pregnant. Stress isn't good for you. I promise I'll spend time with you once a week from now on, okay?

"It'll be our wedding anniversary the day after tomorrow. Is there anything you want? Or shall I prepare a surprise for you?"

The turbulence inside me gradually settled until it was nothing but a pool of stagnant water.

I blocked him, then opened the hospital app and scheduled an abortion for that afternoon.

That would be my surprise for him.

  • Our Love Ends Where His Lies Begin   Chapter 11

Sela's POVThe next day, I saw Shawn outside my flower shop again.I truly had no desire to talk to him, so I simply closed the shop and holed up at home for several days. One afternoon, I stepped out into a light drizzle to take out the trash. The moment I turned around, I spotted Shawn standing not far away. I had no idea how he managed to find me here.He looked like he wanted to say something, but I didn't give him the chance. I just went straight back to my apartment.Outside, the rain grew heavier and heavier. Suddenly, the sky lit up, and a crack of thunder exploded across the horizon. I rushed to close the curtains, only to find Shawn still standing there in the downpour. The torrential rain had soaked him from head to toe. His clothes clung to his body, and water cascaded down his hair. He looked utterly miserable. Our eyes met through the window.Maybe he thought harming himself like this would make me soften toward him and that I'd forgive him. I couldn't help but fi

  • Our Love Ends Where His Lies Begin   Chapter 10

Sela's POVI went to a small coastal town. One of the reasons was that the cost of living was low, and I could rent a decent apartment with very little money. The other reason was that it was remote enough that it would be practically impossible for Shawn to find me.Using the last of my money, I opened a small flower shop. It sat near the end of a street where foot traffic wasn't great, but the online orders were enough to cover my daily expenses. As days passed one by one, I made my first 1,000 dollars. Then my first 10,000 dollars. The shop grew from a tiny space of barely 200 square feet to over 500 square feet. Returning customers increased, and new ones arrived every day.I never imagined I'd actually be successful in this venture. Before I knew it, three years had flown by.I hired plenty of employees to manage things at the shop, while I personally oversaw a small branch. I also raised a small dog called Sunny.Whenever I wasn't busy, I'd move a chair outside the shop an

  • Our Love Ends Where His Lies Begin   Chapter 9

Sela's POVShawn carried Kelly carefully in his arms, and the three of them disappeared around the corner, leaving me alone amid the wreckage and humiliation. The candlelight on the table flickered, illuminating the shattered dishes across the floor and the glass jar that had rolled into a corner under the table. It was just like my six-year relationship—worthless and discarded without a second thought, with nobody caring about it at all.I didn't stay for another second. I stood up, straightened my clothes, walked out of the restaurant, returned to my rental apartment, and packed up the few belongings I had.I grabbed my golden piggy bank and smashed it. Folded banknotes scattered across the floor. I carefully picked them up, as though I were gathering the fragments of my wasted youth and what remained of my dignity.Everything else, I left behind. I didn't want, nor did I care to want again, anything connected to Shawn.I bought a ticket for the next available train. Then I bl

Sela's POVKelly rushed in, dragging Toby along behind her. Her fingers gripped her phone tightly; her eyes wild with panic and anger. The moment she stepped inside, she barreled toward us."What exactly are you two trying to do?"She slammed her phone down onto the table."The photos are all over the internet! They're all over the news!" she shrieked, her voice shrill. "Shawn Leake, who exactly is your wife here? The whole world is laughing at me right now!"She spun toward me, glaring as tears welled in her eyes."Have you no shame, Sela Wheatley? After everything, you're still clinging to Shawn, unwilling to let go? Are you only going to be satisfied after you've destroyed our family? Why don't you just die?"She wailed and shrieked, having completely lost control. There was none of her usual grace or composure left.Toby, picking up on her energy and seeing his father in such a disheveled state, instantly tilted his chin up and glared at me furiously."You bad woman! You'

  • Our Love Ends Where His Lies Begin   Chapter 7

Sela's POVThe restaurant staff, sensing something was wrong, quickly retreated to the break room and pulled out their phones to take photos. Finally snapping back to his senses, Shawn jerked his head up to look at me, his eyes bloodshot."That's a life, Sela Wheatley!" he shouted. "I told you I would make it up to you! Cars, houses, money—whatever you wanted, I would've given you! Why did you have to hurt the baby? How could you be so cruel?"His fingers gripped the edge of the table so tightly that his knuckles turned white.I had run out of tears by then. Glancing at the servers who had hidden themselves, I asked hoarsely, "What are you waiting for? Serve the food."They didn't dare disobey and hurriedly brought out the prepared courses. Expensive and exquisite-looking dishes were served—steaks with beautiful marbling, creamy soups, foie gras, and so on. The aromas filling the restaurant felt entirely at odds with the suffocating atmosphere.I picked up my knife and fork and

  • Our Love Ends Where His Lies Begin   Chapter 6

Sela's POVThe jar landed firmly on the marble table. Candlelight shone through the glass, illuminating the small mass of flesh and blood inside very clearly. The smile on Shawn's face froze. The corners of his mouth flattened from their original upward curve before twitching uncontrollably. His pupils dilated, and his eyes flooded with sheer disbelief.Even his breathing stopped for a second."What did you say, Sela? What… on earth is that?"I curled my lips into a smirk, but every laugh that came from my throat carried endless pain and resentment."This is our baby, Shawn. Our child…"It was the child we'd tried to conceive for two years, the child we'd looked forward to for so long, the child I'd scrimped and saved for so I could provide a good life for it.It was the child whose nursery we'd already mapped out even before we bought our own place, the child with whom we were supposed to share a happy life.My child. Our child. And just like that, it had died on that cold s
