Chapter 3

Author: Buckwheat
In the middle of the night, a rustling sound outside the door woke me up. I realized Luca wasn't lying beside me.

At the end of the hallway, the door to Gina's room stood slightly ajar. Drawn by a strange impulse, I stepped closer and saw Gina lying naked on the bed. Luca was on top of her, thrusting wildly.

"Don Rossi, who do you like more? Me or Elena?" Gina asked.

"You, of course. Elena is too boring," Luca answered.

After he finished speaking, he thrust even harder. Gina writhed beneath him, her moans filling the room.

The sight of their debauchery stung my eyes and pierced my heart. I never knew that Luca, who was always so composed, could have such a frantic side.

In the past, every kiss he gave me had been brief and restrained. He used to say that it was because I was the Donna and had to act with propriety. Looking back now, it was laughable.

Luca didn't return for the rest of the night. The next day, he gave a half-hearted excuse, saying he had been busy all night with family matters. I didn't call him out on his lie and simply turned toward the door.

When Gina saw me, she deliberately leaned in and whispered in my ear, "Elena, you saw everything, didn't you? Did you enjoy watching how wild Luca gets with me?"

So she had left the door open on purpose.

"Your son is already dead, and your husband belongs to me in every way. What are you still doing here?" Gina said.

A glint flashed in her eyes as she continued, "I tricked Luca into signing the divorce agreement that you had hidden in your drawer. I suggest you leave the Rossi estate soon to save whatever pride you have left. Otherwise, I'll make sure that you can't even find a place to bury your son."

I reached my breaking point, raised my hand, and slapped her across the face in a swift motion.

Suddenly, tears welled in her eyes, and she sank to her knees, looking utterly terrified. "Donna Marino, I was wrong! I'll never do it again! Please forgive me!"

Only then did I realize that Luca was standing right behind me. "What are you doing?" he demanded.

"She threatened me using Niccolo's burial plot!" I said.

I tried to explain, but Luca wouldn't listen. He crouched down and helped Gina up, his eyes full of concern.

"You hit her over something so trivial?" Luca asked.

Trivial? I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

"I know that Niccolo meant a lot to you, but you can't hurt Gina," he said.

He pulled a check from his pocket, scribbled a number on it, and handed it to me. "You can choose Niccolo's burial plot. How about buying him the most luxurious one in Novaro?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he looked at me, satisfied. He thought he had compensated me, yet he didn't realize that some things lose their meaning once love is gone.

I sneered. "Then how about I beat her to death and buy her the finest grave? Would that be alright?"

He grabbed my wrist. "That's enough. Tonight is the banquet of the five major families in Novaro. The Gambinos will announce our partnership in front of everyone."

He let go of my wrist and walked over to Gina, who was standing by the stairs, and took her hand. I wiped away my tears and forced down the anger boiling inside me.

Just then, my phone buzzed with a text from Don Gambino. "Come to the banquet tonight. The terms we agreed upon will be fulfilled this evening."

The iron gate of the garden slammed shut, muffling Luca's cries. He reached out for me, but all he grasped was grass and his own blood.I gave Luca no room to recover. Using my famiglia's influence, I filed a formal indictment with the elders of the Rossi famiglia, accusing him of leaking core research technology and deliberately protecting a traitor within their ranks. While protecting Gina, he had already sold the southern district's weapons supply line to the famiglia's rival. That became undeniable proof of his betrayal. The elders didn't take long to reach a verdict. They stripped Luca of his title as Don, seized every territory under his name, and expelled him from the inner circle of the famiglia.Luca eventually lost all his power. After being cast out, he became a homeless man on the streets. A tattered jacket replaced his suits, and he spent his days squatting at the entrance of the alley outside the Rossi estate, clutching a wine bottle.Whenever he spotted children in

Marco gripped Lorenzo's arm and dragged him toward the door. Lorenzo cried and shouted, "Papa! I want Papa!"Luca stood with his back to the door and didn't turn around.Gina crawled over and grabbed him. "He's innocent! I did it all! It has nothing to do with him!"He crouched down and looked at her like she meant nothing. "Innocent? The moment you lured Niccolo to that place, he already had my son's blood on his hands."After Marco dragged Lorenzo away, Gina's heavy breathing was the only sound in the room. Luca grabbed her by the hair and hauled her out of the estate. No one dared to get in his way.Luca's eyes went cold. "You destroyed my famiglia, ruined Elena, and killed Niccolo. You wrecked the only home I had in this life. Now it's time to pay for it."Gina backed into the corner and begged, "No… I was wrong. Luca, I'm sorry."Luca paid no attention to her pleas. He pushed her into an abandoned armory, bolted the doors, and threw the key into a septic tank.He clenched

Every message that Gina had sent made Luca's chest tighten. One of the messages included a photo of him and Gina lying naked in bed.He covered his face, his voice breaking into a sob. "What have I done?"He reached out, and his hand brushed against a divorce agreement. Only then did he realize that he had actually signed it. Even though Gina had tricked him into doing it, the signature was undeniably his.He dropped to his knees on the floor. "Elena, I'm sorry. I was wrong."But it was already too late.…Luca stumbled back to the Rossi estate. In the living room, Gina was feeding Lorenzo segments of tangerine. She looked up, a faint smile lingering in her eyes. "Don Rossi? Why does your face look so pale?"Luca said nothing. He crossed the room in two strides and grabbed her by the throat. "Did you send these messages?"His eyes were raw and bloodshot as he shouted, "How dare you go after Elena and Niccolo!"Terrified, Lorenzo dropped the tangerine on the floor, his high-pi

After a long moment, Lorenzo stirred from the small bed beside Luca, rubbing his sleepy eyes. He pouted angrily and shouted, "Papa, you woke me up! I hate you!"Lorenzo had always been cranky upon waking up, and being woken for no reason made his temper flare even more.A heaviness settled over Luca. He patted Lorenzo's back impatiently, coaxing him to sleep, but Lorenzo's cries only grew louder. Lorenzo flailed his hands and slapped Luca across the face, leaving a sharp sting.Luca suddenly remembered that Niccolo had never behaved like this.Niccolo used to say, "My Papa has to manage the whole famiglia, so he's very tired. I mustn't cause him any trouble."He always stood quietly by my side and silently helped me with the chores. Once, when Luca had a high fever, Niccolo stayed awake all night, helping me look after him the entire time. The more Luca thought about it, the more it hurt, until he could no longer contain his anger. He shot to his feet, veins bulging at his temp

Luca clenched his fists, his gaze darkening. Suddenly, his thoughts went to me again. He picked up his phone but couldn't bring himself to make the call.Just as he was hesitating, the door was flung open. Lorenzo ran in crying, wrapped his arms around Luca's leg, and whimpered, "Papa, I scraped my finger. It hurts so much!"Luca quickly set his phone down and scooped Lorenzo up. He gently blew on the boy's finger and comforted him softly. "Be good. I'll bandage it up for you right now."Ever since Gina moved in with Lorenzo, they had been constantly clinging to Luca. Whenever Gina wasn't asking him to look after Lorenzo, she was pulling him into bed.Gina stroked Luca's hand, her eyes full of tenderness. "Don Rossi, I'm still scared. If Elena comes back, will she kill Lorenzo and me? After all, she hates us so much."She lowered her gaze deliberately, looking completely terrified. "Her famiglia is so powerful. Getting rid of us would mean nothing to them."Luca softened his voic

After I finished speaking, I turned and headed for the exit. Luca followed closely behind me, desperate to explain. At that moment, a sharp ringing cut through the air. It came from the Rossi famiglia's top-secret encrypted line. "Don Rossi, our cargo at the docks is under attack. We need immediate backup!"Luca's face turned deathly pale the moment he heard the news. He hesitated, unsure whether to keep chasing me while the sounds of gunfire and screams blared through the phone."Don Rossi, if anything goes wrong with this shipment too, it'll be the end of the Rossi famiglia! If you don't step in now, it'll be too late!" his trusted subordinate shouted desperately.Luca closed his eyes for a moment, eventually coming to a stop. "Get the car ready. We're heading to the docks."Before getting into the car, he looked at me with deep longing. I climbed into another vehicle, and our cars pulled away from each other in opposite directions.Luca quickly handled the mess at the docks

Marco Giordano, Luca Rossi's assistant, spoke in a hushed voice. "Don Rossi, why did you order the doctors to stop the resuscitation?
