Chapter 7

Author: Rowena Primax
Tania woke in a blur. Every breath was a jagged pull against the sharp agony of her ribs.

"Simone, this is all my fault… If I hadn't insisted on watching the race, Tania wouldn't have ended up like this."

Noemi's sobbing came from beside the hospital bed. "I'm so scared. If anything happened to her, I'd never forgive myself."

"It's not your fault," Simone said nearby. "It was an accident. No one could've predicted a punctured tire. Besides, she drove over on her own. Getting hurt was on her. Don't blame yourself. You should rest. I'll stay here."

Tania listened to the familiar exchange and felt nothing but irony.

She had nearly died, yet it was all deserved.

Pain and disappointment tangled in her chest, and she couldn't stop herself from coughing.

The sudden sound froze Noemi and Simone.

Noemi lunged toward the bed. "Tania, you're finally awake! How do you feel? Are you feeling pain anywhere?"

Her voice was anxious and tender, as if she were genuinely worried.

Watching her performance, Tania replied hoarsely, "Thanks to you, I'm not dead yet."

Noemi's eyes immediately reddened. She turned to Simone with a hurtful look. "Simone, I-I didn't mean it like that. I was just worried about Tania…"

Simone frowned. "Ms. Tania, Noemi stayed here the whole time taking care of you. She was so worried she couldn't sleep. How could you talk to her like that?"

"Taking care of me?" Tania laughed, but the movement caught her wounds, forcing a sharp gasp.

"Open your eyes, Mr. Lanzi. Look at these injuries. Would I even be lying here if I hadn't nearly died saving the two of you?"

Her words landed like a heavy blow. Simone's chest tightened as the crash replayed in his mind.

"Mi dispiace. I—" He leaned closer, wanting to check her injuries.

But before he could, Noemi suddenly pressed a hand to her chest.

"I don't feel well. I think I'm still shaken from earlier," she said, already turning toward the door.

Her voice trembled as she continued, "Simone, I'll go rest first. I'll come see Tania again when she's better."

"Noemi!" Simone called out instinctively and chased after her without hesitation. He didn't even leave a single word behind for Tania.

Lying there alone, she finally let the tears fall.

No matter how badly she was hurt or how much she had given up for him, Noemi would always come first.

Her desperate rescue had been reduced to a pathetic joke.

A week passed, and Tania never saw Simone again.

On the day of her discharge, no one came to get her.

She dragged her injured body into a cab and returned to the Giordano residence. The moment she pushed open the door, noise and laughter flooded in.

Rino had his arm around Noemi, grinning as guests raised their glasses to celebrate her survival.

And there stood Simone, right beside her.

The bullet tore through Simone's right shoulder. Blood burst out instantly, staining his white shirt with a shocking red that made it hard to look at.His body jerked violently, and the gun slipped from his grasp. He staggered back a few steps, crashing heavily against the wall behind him, then slid down to the floor.Pain radiated from his shoulder, but he still raised his head to lock eyes with Tania. His gaze was filled with stubborn refusal and despair. He had lost the bet.Tania watched the blood streaming from his wound and his pale face, yet her eyes showed no flicker of emotion. She said calmly, "The game is over. I should go now."Without looking back or saying a word more, she grabbed her suitcase and walked past him.It was as if the wounded man lying there had nothing to do with her anymore.Simone's vision blurred as he watched her determined back vanish through the doorway.Cesario rushed forward, holding him and calling urgently for a doctor. On the fifth day, Tania was already prepared to leave. She moved with calm efficiency, packing the few things she had with no trace of hesitation, then headed downstairs.Simone stood in the middle of the living room. After a night without sleep, his eyes were heavily bloodshot, and a dark shadow of stubble had begun to rough up his jaw.He didn't stop her, only looked at her intently and said, "Tania, before you go, play one last game with me. Let's place a bet."Without slowing her steps, she glanced at him coolly. "I'm not interested.""The stakes are your freedom and my life."Simone raised his hand, and Cesario stepped forward carrying a black wooden box. When opened, a vintage revolver was revealed, its metal gleaming coldly."Bullet roulette. There's only one bullet in the chamber. I'll pull the trigger and gamble on whether the last shot will fire."He picked up the gun, his fingers tracing the cold metal. "If I live, you stay and give me one last chance to make things r

In the days that followed, Simone poured all his tenderness into Tania. His left hand was heavily bandaged and suspended, making movement difficult. Yet, he insisted on staying by her side, accompanying her through every romantic corner of Syrithi.Under the white lighthouse by the sea, Simone held an umbrella, shielding Tania from the ocean breeze.Amidst the sprawling blossoms on the mountainside, he gathered flowers with his one good hand, clumsily trying to weave them into a bouquet. On the edge of a cliff at sunset, he endured the searing pain in his arm just to capture photo after photo of her.He wanted to mold these days into memories only theirs. However, Tania remained uninterested.Simone's sweet words went in one ear and out the other. The surprises he gave her barely earned more than a glance. His carefully crafted romance was nothing but trivial to her.She was like a delicate puppet, allowing him to lead her, yet never truly investing any emotion.Simone's heart

"You've lost your mind! Simone, stop it! Open the lid now!" Tania clenched her fists. But Cesario only lowered his head, strictly following Simone's earlier orders. He didn't move an inch.Inside the glass tank, Simone's consciousness was already fading. He choked more and more frequently, clearly at his limit.Seeing his agony, Tania shouted again and again, "You lunatic! Stop it!"A moment later, the preset program finally ended. The glass lid slowly lifted. Simone instantly collapsed inside the tank, completely soaked. He coughed violently and nearly blacked out.The private doctors who had been waiting nearby rushed forward at once. They crowded around him, pinching his philtrum and performing CPR. The scene descended into chaos.Tania stood where she was, watching the disorder before her. Her emotions were tangled, yet there was not the slightest hint of sympathy. After he finally caught his breath, Simone came to. The first thing he did was look at Tania. Ignoring the doct

Tania's voice was icy. "Make it up to me? Simone, tell me how. Do you really think rebuilding a courtyard makes all that pain disappear?"Without looking back, she went straight upstairs and slammed the bedroom door shut. She only wanted to lock herself in a room and endure these five days. She didn't want to hear any more of Simone's hollow talk about making amends.Outside, the mountains were silent. Drowsiness crept in. Tania leaned against the headboard and slowly fell asleep. When she woke again, a faint aroma of food filled the room. She opened her eyes and saw Simone standing by the bed, holding a bowl of warm soup.Behind him, helpers carried tray after tray. The table was soon filled with carefully prepared dishes."Morning," he said softly. "I made these myself. They're all dishes you said you liked before. I brought them up so we could eat together."Tania's gaze swept over the table. Every dish was something she had once casually mentioned liking years ago.Back th

The room erupted again.40% of the Lanzi family's resources was enough to push the Garretti family ahead of every other mafia family, even the Lanzi family itself. All eyes turned to Carlo, curious how he'd respond.Tania had already prepared herself to be abandoned. She knew deep down that Carlo cared most about the family's interests.Carlo gave a faint smile. Without hesitation, he firmly stated, "No need."He squeezed Tania's hand, comforting her. "Tania is my love, the only person I want to spend my life with. She's not some commodity to be traded."Simone looked at Tania and spoke in a pleading tone. "Tania, please give me one more chance, even if it's just to make things right. I know I was extremely wrong. I'll change and spend my life protecting you, never letting anyone hurt you again."Seeing him like that, Tania remained unmoved. "Simone, it's too late. You can't give me the peace I want, and you never intended to. I'll only marry Carlo. Please leave."Her words bro
